MEET THE MMA
PROFESSOR
Hello. For those of you who don’t know me
yet, let me introduce myself and explain a
little bit about my background, and my
approach to the study of martial arts,
combat sports, and physical fitness.
I
have studied martial arts consistently now
for 33 years. During that time I have earned
black belt ranks, or their equivalent, and
teaching degrees in five different art
forms. I am a certified and licensed Chief
Master Instructor Trainer and 5th Degree
Black Belt with the IFCQC. This also
includes being a certified Close Quarter
Combat Instructor for military and law
enforcement personnel. I am also a certified
and licensed Athletic Trainer, Strength and
Conditioning Coach, Judge, and Referee
through the NSCA and the USMTA.
I
started training when I was 4 years old. My
first arts were Western Boxing and Muay
Thai. From there I branched out into
Aikijutsu, Jiu-Jitsu, Arnis, Pankration,
Greco-Roman Wrestling, and spent some time
in TaeKwonDo and Lissaujo-Do as well. The
friends and colleagues that I trained and
fought with over the years were practicing
MMA before MMA was ever a technical term. I
have witnessed, and have been a part of, the
evolution of this sport and training since
it's inception.
I
was a professional MMA / NHB bare-knuckle
freestyle fighter for twelve years in the
U.S. and overseas. I retired from
professional competition as the 5-time
undefeated world champion of the IFCQC. I
retired with a professional NHB record of 89
- 0, 76 K.O., and an overall MMA / NHB
record of 153 - 5. Back in the day, it was
common to fight multiple times in one night,
and to compete in several events of that
nature per year. I now dedicate my time to
teaching my craft to others. I believe in
providing the most complete and
comprehensive martial arts and fitness
education possible to my students and
clients.
I
have written and published books and
articles about martial arts, combat
training, and various areas of athletic and
strength training for the past 13 years -
and have plans to write and publish several
more books. It is my intention to provide a
monthly column that will address these
various areas of training for fighters and
fans alike.
I
am honored to be a part of Fight News
Unlimited, and will do my best to give you
insightful and informative reference
material that will help you achieve your
martial arts and fitness goals - Physically,
Mentally, and Spiritually.
