Atlantic City Super Fight ‘Casino Battle Royale’ Planned For November.

For Immediate Release – 20th July 2008

Following on from his hugely successful inaugural fight night in Salem, New Jersey last month, promoter Jarvis Robertson and his Fight Night Productions team are in the process of organizing an even bigger event ‘Casino Battle Royale’ which will take place in Atlantic City in November 2008.

Jarvis is currently putting together what will be a star studded night and to this end approaches have already been made to a brace of boxing’s biggest names including two former world champions to headline the event.

Later this week one of his team, Gianluca ‘Rio’ Di Caro, flies to London, England for discussions with various British and European fighters as the card will have a distinct international feel about it with around half the card consisting of fighters from outside the USA, mainly from South America and Europe.

On the planned spectacular Jarvis says “We will be putting on a real show, something special for boxing fans. Just like our Salem fight night it’s going to be non-stop action. We have already started a national and world-wide search for suitable opponents. We intend to find the most exciting fighters we can for this special event, ones that will give 100%
from start to finish. Don’t think that means there will be no local favorites though. No way would we ignore committed, entertaining fighters like Mark ‘Oaktree’ Brown and Willie ‘For Real’ Williams who put on an awesome show at Salem. The same as I wouldn’t ignore any local fighter who is suitable. We want to make sure that both opponents in each fight
are evenly matched not only by record but also by their entertainment value.”

Further announcements will follow over the coming few weeks as the location and fighters are secured.

German paper Bild Zeitung wrote Friday that the German Federation, the BDB, who holds the membership to the EBU, have revoked the license from Arena Box Promotion. No exact reason is given but it´s no secret there´s been tension all along coming to a head during recent shows in Spain and Turkey (where Arena had the Latvian Federation as supervisors).

German welter Michel Trabant suffered an upset loss at the hands of Roman Seliverstov on the undercard to Alexander Povetkin´s knockout win over Taurus Sykes in Chekhv. Trabant, a pro at 16 (almost 17) back in 95 came off a loss against Andre Berto, and is fighting to pay off huge debts that stems from an expensive divorce and a year long suspension after a failed doping tests. Had he beaten Seliverstov a shot at the WBC Int´l title could have materialized.

WBA I/C supermiddle champ Stepjan Bozic defends the title against German Roman Aramian July 25 in Novalja, Croatia.

Czech jr middle Lukas Konecny face Brazilian Liusi Augusto Dos Santos in the headliner of a show in Brno July 29. Swiss welter Roberto Belge co-headlines against Ukrainian Vladimir Borovski. The mainbouts are televised by EuroSport.

Former heavy champ Riddick Bowe´s latest comeback attempt is now set for September 12 in Gyor, Hungary. Bowe will face Hungarian veteran Zoltan Petranyi, who is also matchmaker along with Dane Robert Larsen for the show.

Russian bantam Andrey Kostin beat Ravil Mukhamadiarov last night in Vyborg to win the vacant BBU title. It was scorded 80-71, 80-72 and 80-73.

Spanish cruiser Alejandro Lakatus, 27-4-2, a two-time challenger for the WBO lightheavy title, could only draw with Frenchman Emmanuel Feuze Friday night in Ordizia.

The heavyweight clash between Attila Levin and Gabe Brown set for July 25 in Kissimee, Florida, is off after the commission there didn´t approve it feeling that Brown was too soft an opponent for the comebacking Swede. A strange decision: Levin have one round under his belt since returning earlier this year after three years out. Levin´s next fight is now set for Karlstad, Sweden, September 5.

Former UFC light-heavyweight champion Quinton (Rampage) Jackson was released from jail early Wednesday morning following his arrest in Costa Mesa, Calif., according to MMAonTap.com.

Jackson was arrested Tuesday after a series of collisions allegedly involving the pickup truck he was driving.

Jackson, who lives in Irvine, Calif., was booked into Orange County jail for investigation of felony evading, hit and run and reckless driving, according to Lt. Paul Dondero of the Costa Mesa Police Department.

Jackson posted the US$25,000 bail overnight Tuesday. No details were given on who provided the money, but Kevin Iole of Yahoo! Sports reported that UFC president Dana White flew by private plane to California late Tuesday night and was headed to the jailhouse with the presumed intention to provide the bail.

On Tuesday, Police received a report of an accident in Costa Mesa involving a large pickup truck that had struck other vehicles and fled the scene, Dondero said. An officer spotted the pickup getting involved in another collision and fleeing toward Newport Beach.

The pickup was pulled over in Newport Beach after reportedly running through multiple red lights, driving on the sidewalk and nearly striking a number of pedestrians before Jackson finally stopped the vehicle voluntarily.

The 30-year-old Jackson was then taken into custody without incident, Dondero said, and there were no injuries involved in the various collisions.

Jackson, a former Pride fighter who upset Chuck (The Iceman) Liddell in May 2007 to become the UFC’s 205-pound champion, was dethroned by Forrest Griffin at UFC 86 on July 5 in Las Vegas.

Mike “Quicksand” Pyle takes on JJ Ambrose at Affliction Banned in Anaheim, California. Pyle is the only fighter to beat UFC title contender Jon Fitch at 170 lbs, and is recognized as one of the elite welterweights in the world.

Isaiah “The Striking” Viking Larson takes on Jorge Oliveira for the Palace Fighting Championship’s Light Heavyweight belt. Larson, a training partner of Brett Rogers, enters the fight with a 6-1 record.

July 18, 2008 — Less than a month after moving up two weight divisions and dominating veteran boxer Elizabeth Villarreal, top bantamweight prospect Kaliesha “Wild Wild” West (9-0-0, 1 KO) will be returning to her weight division to square off against Cynthia Talmadge (2-1-0, 2 KO’s) on the undercard of ESPN 2’s Wednesday Night Fights.
