“Ruthless” Robbie Lawler of St. Louis will defend the EliteXC middleweight title against Scott “Hands of Steel” Smith of Sacramento in the main event on the second primetime broadcast of CBS ELITEXC SATURDAY NIGHT FIGHTS on Saturday, July 26, (9 p.m.-11 p.m. ET/PT).
In a second world title fight, Jake Shields of San Francisco and Nick “The Goat” Thompson of Minneapolis will collide for the vacant EliteXC 170-pound belt.
Stockton’s Nick Diaz will face Thomas “Wildman’’ Denny of Victorville, Calif., in a lightweight match and Shayna “The Queen Of Spades” Baszler of Sioux Falls, S.D., will take on Brazil’s undefeated Cristiane Cyborg in a women’s fight at 140 pounds at the Stockton Arena in Stockton, Calif.
Tickets start at $35 and can be purchased at the Stockton Arena Box Office (Tuesday-Friday, 10 a.m.-6 p.m.) and Saturday (noon-4 p.m.), by phone at (209) 373-1700 and (866) 373-7088 (toll free) or online at www.stocktontickets.com.
The event is presented by Los Angeles-based ProElite, Inc.’s live fight division, EliteXC. Doors open at 2:30 p.m. PT. The first live fight is at 3:15.
Preceding the two-hour, four-fight broadcast on the CBS Television Network will be a three-fight, one-hour telecast live on SHOWTIME (8 p.m. ET/PT).
In the main event, Antonio “Big Foot” Silva will face Justin Eilers for the EliteXC heavyweight crown. In other SHOWTIME fights, promising Wilson Reis will meet Brian Caraway at 140 pounds and talented Rafael Feijao will be opposed by an opponent to be determined in a light heavyweight fight.

“I watched our first fight one time right after I got back home from New Jersey, but I haven’t watched it since. This is going to be another great fight. We both go out and give our best. My game plan is to adapt. I don’t try to picture what is going to happen inside the cage.
“The fact we have fought each other won’t lend any advantages to either of us. I love to fight and I am looking forward to fighting and defending the title on July 26 in Stockton on CBS.”

“It’s really exciting to be fighting so close to home. I have friends and family that will be coming in four greyhound buses. It was set up by a bar in Elk Grove. It costs $20 round trip to watch me fight
“I always have a core of friends at my fights. I had 16 in New Jersey and 12 in Miami, but never anything like this.
“I am really looking forward to fighting Lawler again. I look back at our first fight and all the things I did wrong and that alone has given me more confidence. I know I can fight better than I did last time. My head movement was terrible and I got hit way too much.
“I expected Lawler to come out more aggressively but he fought a very intelligent fight. I’m known as a slow starter and he wound up taking me apart in the first round. I had a bad game plan and he took advantage.
“Each fight gets more and more exciting for me. The fact that I am on CBS again is totally awesome. I learned a lot in my first fight and I am very confident I will win. Then, maybe we can fight a third time.
“Health wise, I am 100 percent. There’s no question in my mind that I could have continued our first fight.’’
JAKE SHIELDS
“I feel really good and have been working very hard for a long time. The fact that my title shot is finally here is as good as it can get for me. Being on CBS only makes it that much more exciting. This fight card will give all of us a lot of exposure.
“I respect Nick. He is definitely a tough fighter, but I have fought a lot of tough guys throughout my career. We’re both on nice winning streaks, but one has to end and I don’t plan on it being my mine.
“This is my first fight in nine months, which is the second longest layoff in my career. (But) I am totally healthy. The lower back injury that kept my out of training for three months is fine. I am raring to go.
“The Stockton Arena is a great place for fights and it will be exciting for me to fight in front of so many friends and family, who will be making the trip down from San Francisco.”

It´s on – at least according to Bild Zeitung: Vitali Klitschko vs Samuel Peter for the WBC heavyweight title October 4 at the brand new O2 World Arena in Berlin. If brother Wladimir makes it as well as have been hinted depends on the results of Satuday´s showdown against Tony Thompson. But if Wladimir wins and and don´t get injured we might see Wladimir vs Alexander Povetkin as co-headliner in front of 17 000 fans. Vitali have attempted to come back twice now and been injured both times, he was also forced to retire due to injuries so there are of course big question marks this time as well around his comeback.
Spanish fly Ivan Pozo, a loser to WBO champ Omar Narvaez in May, returns July 15 in Vigo and face Brazilian Darli Goncalves for the WBO I/C title. Bantam Franklin Theran co-headlines along with superbantam Kiko Martinez.
Spanish feather Sergio Blanco won a wide unanimous decision over Ukrainian Oleg Yefimovich last night on Donetsk to win the vacant EBU title. At welter Vyacheslav Senchenko got by Frenchman Frederik Klose by a very close margin. All three judges had it 115-113 for Senchenko. In the third headliner Stanislav Merdov stopped fellow-Ukrainian Yuri Voronin in the ninth of an EE-EU titlefight.
Cuban heavy Juan Carlos Gomez is back in Hamburg. Gomez is likely to face Vladimir Virchis in a WBC eliminator September 27 in Stuttgart – although both date and site have yet to be officially confirmed. Gomez was banned from attending Wladimir Klitschko´s public workout today in Hamburg. There´s reportedly a lot of tension between Gomez, his promoter Ahmet Oener and the Klitschko team, including their personal representative Bernd Boente, who at one time was press spokesman for Universum while all four – Gomez, Oener and the Klitschkos – fought for Universum.
EBU cruiser champ Jean Marc Monrose postponed defence against Merick Roberge will now go ahead September 18.
WBA and WIBF fly queen Susianna Kentikian headlines Spotlight Boxing´s show in Duesseldorf August 30. Kentikian defends her titles against Israeli Hagar Finer, who under the name of Shmoulefeld have given several German stars, including Regina Halmich, a lot of problems. The show will also feature jr light Vitali Tajbert and middleweight Sebastian Zbik – both are coming off impressive wins Saturday night in Halle / Westfalen.
The undercard to Klitschko vs Thompson and Baysangurov vs Gontsa July 12 at the Color Line Arena in Hamburg feature Kronk´s cruiser Jonathon Banks in an IBO titlefight against Italian Vincenzo Rossitto. Belorus heavyweight giant Alexander Ustinov face Livin Castillo. Kronk also bring in heavyweight debutant Nathan James. K 2 use the GBO, German Boxing Organisation, to supervise it´s shows on German soil.

SIGNAL HILL, California (July 10, 2008) – It is only appropriate that the greatest show in mixed-martial-arts history, “Affliction Banned,” has already set an MMA worldwide media interest record for a single event. The star studded pay-per-view event, featuring the WAMMA heavyweight championship fight between the most dominating, lethal MMA heavyweight of all-time, Russian M1 legend Fedor “The Last Emperor” Emelianenko (27-1), and former UFC® heavyweight champion Tim “The Maine-iac” Sylvia (24-4), will be broadcast live July19th from Honda Center in Anaheim, California.
More than 250 media credential requests were received heading into today’s deadline, 10 days prior to the event, from numerous foreign countries including Russia, Japan, Korea, Germany, Great Britain, Canada, Brazil, Australia and New Zealand.

We return to the Brute Adidas studios this Saturday for another 2 hours of wrestling talk. Join us for a lively discussion on wrestling. Yup, the sport we all love. The Olympics are just 4 weeks away and the best America has to offer will be showcasing their talent in Beijing, China. I know its all hard work, determination, and whatnot but we should all take a moment and give thanks and offer a silent prayer to our Team as they endeavor to return home to the friendly shores of America with Gold around their necks! Brett and Kristy Mattys- Parents of 2 young Minnesota wrestlers (little guys) have been challenged by their youngest son Sam, 7 years old. Sam was diagnosed at the age of 4 with Sensory Processing disorder. This is a neuroprocessing disorder that affects the way the brain interprets all of the senses. He has been in and out of Occupational therapy since the diagnosis. Sam is a “sensory seeker” and his main issues are proprioceptive. This means he has trouble with the input and feedback that tells us about movement and body position. He has issues with motor planning and control. He is a mover, shaker, jumper, crasher, bouncer! He does great when he can receive OT, which consists of what looks to you or me like gym time! One of the things that was recommended to us was to put him in wrestling, which we did. What a blessing! The warm ups and drills were like OT for him, and the wrestling itself was great for joint input. He has been part of the youth wrestling team now for 2 years. His brother also became involved after watching, and it has become a passion for our whole family.

Lyoto Machida Needs To Be Careful…

Like most companies, the UFC is not a democracy. There’s a boss. And the boss probably isn’t going to be very happy if one of his employees is telling the world that the company is cooking the books. Well, it seems that’s exactly what Lyoto Machida has done in a recent interview with Tatame where he claims:
“Look.. to me, Quinton beat Forrest, but they gave it to Forrest. I think the UFC wants a champion that Chuck Liddell can beat, so he can win the belt again.. he is an ex-champion, sells more and has more marketing.”
Why would Lyoto say something like this? Pretty interesting words from a guy who is in the Light Heavyweight contention hunt himself. What makes it even more peculiar to me is that Lyoto is known for fighting with a style fairly damn comparable to the way Forrest beat Rampage; by sticking and moving and out-pointing your opponent. Lyoto up to this point has really not had alot of press exposure. Something tells me these words are going to get him more attention than he bargained for; only problem is it’s the kind of attention that could possibly cost him a working relationship with his boss, Dana White.
Lyoto “The Dragon” Machida has a professional mixed martial arts record of 13-0 with his most recent win being over Tito Ortiz at UFC 84. Personally, I’m a big fan of Machida’s fighting style but he has come under scrutiny from some fighters as well as fans because of his “elusiveness” in the cage.
