CHECK OUT THE ELITEXC BETTING ODDS!

Posted on | November 9, 2007 | No Comments

The well-respected Oddessa Line, which is carried worldwide by most Offshore, European, and Las Vegas Sportsbooks and Casinos, has posted odds on Saturday’s EliteXC excellent cage fight card at the American Bank Center Arena at Corpus Christi, Tex., on SHOWTIME (10 p.m. ET/PT/delayed on the west coast).

In the main event for the EliteXC world lightweight championship, Nick Diaz is a minus 440 favorite to defeat KJ Noons (plus 400). If you like Diaz to win, you wager 440 to win 100; if you think Noons will win, you bet 100 to win 400.

In other televised fights, Kimbo is -400 over Bo Cantrell (+360), Jake Shields is -355 over Mike Pyle (+305), Antonio Silva is -345 over Jonathan Wiezorek (+315) and Kyle Noke is -130 over Seth Kleinbeck (+120).

”The EliteXC Card is getting steady two way-action,” Joey Oddessa said. “Despite being put in with a much more experienced mixed martial arts fighter in Cantrell, there has been a significant amount of money wagered on Kimbo. Judging by the volume, it appears that even the casual MMA fan recognizes Slice. The line has moved from its opening number( -300) clear up to -400 overnight. Laying a steep price is a risky proposition considering this is Kimbo’s MMA debut, but players aren’t holding back.

”Quite the opposite is taking place in the Diaz-Noons bout. Bettors are banking Diaz’s experience will lead him to victory. That line moved from the opener of -400 to -440 within a couple hours. One surprise is the heavy volume on the Noke-Kleinbeck fight. It appears there is strong support for the Australian Noke.

”If the wagering action on the EliteXC card is any indication of the success of the card, then Showtime and EliteXC should expect a great show with solid ratings. The steady volume on competitive match-ups ensure that fans will be tuning in with high expectations.”

FUTURE “BIG FOOT” SIGHTING CONFIRMED! Silva will fight on Saturday’s EliteXC card

Posted on | November 9, 2007 | No Comments

In case you hadn’t heard, Antonio “Big Foot” Silva (8-1) of Brazil has been medically cleared to return to the cage. He will fight for the first time since February when he collides with Jonathan Wiezorek (11-1) in one of Saturday’s top fights at the American Bank Center Arena in Corpus, Christi, Tex., on SHOWTIME (10 p.m. ET/PT, delayed on the west coast).

“We are really excited about ‘Big Foot’ getting the green light,” EliteXC Live Events President Gary Shaw said. “He has been cleared to fight in Texas. He went to the best neurosurgeons in the world, had a procedure done and now he is set.

“I am very happy for him. I believe he is the No. 1 heavyweight in the world and look forward to giving him the opportunity to prove it.”

The six-foot-four-inch Silva (antoniosilva.proelite.com) is not concerned with the layoff.

“I am not worried about anything. It is great to be back and I feel great,” he said. “I know my opponent is tough with a good record, but, if anything, he should be worried about me.

“I have dropped from 290 pounds to 265, which was what I had planned all along. I feel quicker, faster.

“I believe my best days are ahead of me. I want to stay active. I am not overlooking Wiezorek, but I would be comfortable fighting any of the biggest-named fighters right now.

“My goal is to prove that I am the No. 1 heavyweight in the world.”

SIGN THE PETITION TO HELP RETIRED BOXERS

Posted on | November 9, 2007 | No Comments

The Retired Boxers Foundation would like to thank nearly 400 people for signing our petition to add a $1 surcharge on tickets sold for professional boxing shows. We know that we have the most passionate people already on the petition, but we need to add those who are huge boxing fans, but need a nudge!

This petition is the basis for a major campaign to create a Professional Boxers Pension Plan in every state and sovereign nation in the United States, and someday, world wide. This will take an act of Congress and they won’t do anything unless they think there is enough support, which is why we need your signature.

We are very pleased to announce the support of Robert Fellmuth, the Director of the Center for Public Interest Law, and the man responsible for drafting the California Professional Boxers Pension Plan. Robert has expressed an interest in pursuing this campaign on a national level and he has offered his expertise in making this Pro Boxers Pension a reality. The Pension would be independent of the Commissions and under the Administration of a professional Pension Administration firm, who would collect the fees, manage the pension, invest the money and distribute the pension funds. Again, the Retired Boxers Foundation is profoundly in support of creating this pension modeled on the California Plan, but improving the outcome by managing the pension the proper way–by experts in the pension field rather than experts in boxing.

Please take the time to sign the pension at: http://www.thepetitionsite.com/1/help-create-a-professional-boxers-pension-plan

The Retired Boxers Foundation is an IRS 501(c)3 nonprofit corporation founded by Alex “The Bronx Bomber” Ramos with a mission of assisting retired professional boxers in the transition from their glorious days in the ring, to a dignified retirement. www.retiredboxers.org. GUNN CALLING OUT TARVER

Posted on | November 9, 2007 | No Comments

Former IBA Cruiserweight Champion Bobby Gunn is still dying to fight Antonio Tarver on Showtime. Danny Santiago was however just announced as Tarver’s opponent but Gunn puts no faith in this.”Fights are to be made and fights are made to be broken. Tarver has had two opponents fall through {Danny Green and George Blades}. I think he is a fat boy and can’t make 175 anymore. Ill fight Tarver at any weight. If Danny Santiago pulls out, im ready”, said Gunn.

ELITEXC ANNOUNCERS OFFER UP FRONT COMMENTARY FOR SATURDAY’S CARD

Posted on | November 9, 2007 | 1 Comment

SHOWTIME ANNOUNCERS WEIGH-IN
ON IMPENDING NIGHT OF ACTION

EliteXC on SHOWTIME, Saturday, Nov. 10 Live at 10 p.m. ET/PT

CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas (Nov. 8, 2007) – EliteXC, the world’s fastest-growing mixed martial arts (MMA) promotional company, will conclude its inaugural year with an explosive five-fight telecast THIS SATURDAY, Nov. 10, live on SHOWTIME at 10 p.m. ET/PT (delayed on the West Coast) from The American Bank Center Arena in Corpus Christi, Texas.

Kimbo Slice (a.k.a. Kevin Ferguson)–an Internet-spawned street fighting legend–will make his highly anticipated professional debut against veteran Bo Cantrell. The featured fight of the night will be an EliteXC Lightweight Championship scrap between Nick Diaz of Stockton, Calif., and K.J. Noons of San Francisco, for the vacant title.

Renowned play-by-play announcer Mauro Ranallo will call the action from ringside with “The Fight Professor” Stephen Quadros and world wresting superstar Bill Goldberg serving as color analysts. The executive producer of the telecast is David Dinkins, Jr., with Bob Dunphy directing.

Ranallo, Quadros and Goldberg weighed in with their take on this Saturday’s event.

Mauro Ranallo, renowned SHOWTIME play-by-play announcer:

“Elite XC continues to prove it’s an MMA promotion on the rise with another solid card. The debut of internet fighting sensation Kimbo Slice should draw the interest of the casual fans, while match-ups like Shields vs. Pyle and Diaz vs. Noons will showcase the high level of talent the promotion has on its roster. At the end of the day, fans want to see great fights. EliteXC should deliver the goods this Saturday in Texas.”

Stephen Quadros, “The Fight Professor,” SHOWTIME color commentator/analyst:

“This has been an incredible year for mixed martial arts and for Showtime in MMA. After becoming the first premium cable outlet to televise the sport with the debut of EliteXC in February, SHOWTIME ignited even more programming in July with the advent of the very popular ShoXC: Elite Challenger Series, which features the stars of tomorrow.

“The final EliteXC card of the year features a lightweight title clash between two of the sport’s best in Nick Diaz and KJ Noons. This is a fight that will be decided by the execution of a game plan. Noons surely liked what he saw when “Iron” Mike Aina gave Diaz all he could handle while standing and trading, before losing a narrow split decision to Nick in EliteXC “Uprising” in Hawaii. So Noons will have to get off first on his feet and do something that no one has done yet, finish Nick Diaz with a punching attack. Diaz likely will use low kicks to set up a clinch, which will lead to a takedown. Once on the floor Nick should be able to finish Noons with one of his otherworldly submission holds.

This stacked card also features the debut of an urban legend when Kimbo Slice makes his first appearance on a nationally televised MMA event. Kimbo is widely known for his brutal bare fisted matches that have appeared on YouTube. His frightening aggression and bone-breaking punching power will be tested against a man who has seen it all in former King of The Cage champion Bo “Redrum” Cantrell.”

Quadros continued: “Slice executed well in his MMA exhibition match when he submitted former world champion and Olympic gold medal winning boxer Ray Mercer with a guillotine choke earlier this year. People were surprised at his quick transition from straight-ahead brawler to a thinking mixed martial artist. Against a seasoned MMA veteran like Cantrell, Slice will get a test. But because Cantrell is a mid-level fighter at best, “Redrum” may be just the medicine that Kimbo needs to continue his steps toward legitimacy. This match will contain something unexpected; I can just feel it.

“Where the Kimbo/Cantrell match will satisfy the spectacle seekers, Jake Shields versus Mike “Quicksand” Pyle will be one for the purists. Shields seems to be unstoppable and Pyle, although quite talented, at times seems like he has trouble taking all this fighting stuff seriously. But Pyle must be focused if he is to be competitive here. If he is not then he’s in for a typical Shields beating or submission.”

Bill Goldberg, SHOWTIME color commentator and former pro wrestler and football player:

“I’m excited to see how much Kimbo Slice has progressed under trainer Bas Rutten. That will show me how serious he is about MMA.

“I don’t think the fight will go past the first round. Kimbo is so explosive. I don’t think you can take the instinct out of the man. But I also know that Cantrell is extremely dangerous so it can go either way. I think this is the most intriguing match up because everyone wants to see how this plays out.”

MAYWEATHER AND HATTON MAKE THEIR PICKS FOR COTTO VS. MOSLEY

Posted on | November 9, 2007 | No Comments

MAYWEATHER AND HATTON PICK WINNER OF SATURDAY NIGHT’S MEGA-FIGHT BETWEEN MIGUEL COTTO AND SHANE MOSLEY SATURDAY AT MADISON SQUARE GARDEN
LIVE ON HBO PAY-PER-VIEW

NEW YORK, NY (November 6, 2007 ) . . . With “Pretty Boy” Floyd Mayweather and Ricky “The Hitman” Hatton heavily entrenched in preparations for their own welterweight championship showdown December 8, both undefeated fighters took the time to weigh in on the welterweight mega-contest between their division rivals Miguel Cotto and Sugar Shane Mosley this Saturday, November 10th at the “Mecca of Boxing,” Madison Square Garden. The 12-round world welterweight title fight will be produced and distributed live by HBO Pay-Per-View, beginning at 9 p.m. ET / 6 p.m. PT.

Mayweather, 38-0 (24 KOs), is the reigning world and Ring Magazine welterweight champion. Considered the pound-for-pound best in the sport today, he expects a Mosley victory.

“I see it as an easy fight for Shane and I predict an early KO,” Mayweather predicted.

Hatton, 43-0 (31 KOs), a multi-division champion and universally recognized world junior welterweight champion, agreed with his upcoming opponent.

” I think Shane Mosley will win because he will cause Cotto problems with his speed and movement. Last time out, Cotto looked strong but didn’t carry the same finesse at welterweight as in previous fights. He looked a little crude against Judah. Cotto will need more finesse against Mosley.”

“UNDEFEATED” — World welterweight champion ” Pretty Boy” Floyd Mayweather will meet British icon, Ring Magazine and world junior welterweight champion Ricky “The Hitman” Hatton for the world welterweight championship Saturday, Dec. 8 at MGM Grand in Las Vegas. Promoted by Golden Boy Promotions and Mayweather Promotions, and sponsored by Rock Star Energy Drink, Tecate Beer and Southwest Airlines, the fight will be produced and distributed live by HBO Pay-Per-View.

Tickets are still available for Cotto vs Mosley and closed circuit tickets are available for Mayweather vs Hatton. For more information on both events, visit www.goldenboypromotions.com.
