Hitz Inks Quartet of Talented Fighters

Chicagoland promoter Bobby Hitz is proud to announce he has signed a quartet of talented fighters to promotional agreements including the Brothers Amidu, Yakubu and Abdullai, talented lightweight Chris Singleton, and a co-promotional deal (along with Square Ring Promotions) with Chicago’s own former world heavyweight title challenger “Fast” Fres Oquendo.   26-year-old Los Angeles-based Ghanaian Yakubu “Black Mamba” Amidu (19-2-1, 17 KOs), is the current NABA-US Lightweight Champion. He made his Chicago-area debut last April with a unanimous decision over capable John Revish and followed it up with an impressive knockout over Damon Antoine in Rosemont, Illinois, last May.   Yakubu’s brother, 28-year-old undefeated knockout artist Abdullai Amidu (19-0, 17 KOs) has worked as a sparring partner for pound-for-pound king Manny Pacquiao and was last seen winning a decision over Cristian Favela in August 2010.   “Both brothers are fantastic, all-action fighters,” said Hitz. “The fans at my shows have already taken to Yakubu and his ‘take no prisoners’ approach and they’re going to love Abdullai when he gets in there this year.”   27-year-old Lafayette, Louisiana lightweight Chris Singleton (2-0, 2 KOs) came to Chicago last April and was so impressive in stopping formerly undefeated Russell Fiore in one round that Hitz quickly signed him.   “I’ve got a pretty good eye for talent and this kid most certainly has it,” explained Hitz. “He came into, basically, the other kid’s backyard and just tore into him. Great power. Good fundamentals. We’ll develop Singleton properly and make a contender out of him.”   During his long career as a world-class heavyweight, Oquendo (32-7, 21 KOs) has held numerous regional belts and taken on a long list of other top-quality big men.   He has also been plagued by questionable scoring. In 2003, he dropped a highly questionable decision to then IBF champion Chris Byrd in an unsuccessful challenge for the title. In 2008, a point deduction for a rabbit punch cost him a draw against multiple world champion James Toney. Film Maker Wayne Boyd Nears Final Stages on new Wrestling Movie!

When film maker Wayne Boyd made and distributed the movie One More Shot even then you could tell that wrestling had made a difference in his life. He came with in a hair of becoming a Cowboy but ended up as an Owl at Temple. Don’t hold it against him or then OSU Head Coach Myron Roderick for it all worked out in the end. Boyd, now living in Palm Springs is in the final stages of his 3rd wrestling feature this one an anthology. The working title is Blood Guts Glory: Anthology 108 Years of American Wrestling.

LAS VEGAS (July 18, 2011) – Undefeated, world-rated KZ Event Productions fighters Ravshan Hudaynazarovand Gayrat Ahmedov have become as difficult to fight as it is for boxing fans to correctly pronounce and spell their last names.

 

The dynamic duo from Uzbekistan, now fighting out of Las Vegas, will be defending their respective titles in 10-round bouts on the July 29 “Fire & Fury” pro boxing card, headlined by their promoter Beibut Shumenov’s third title defense against two-time world title challenger Danny “The Bronx Bomber” Santiago, on TeleFutura’s “Sólo Boxeo Tecate” broadcast live from South Point Hotel Casino in Las Vegas, Nevada.

Shumenov (11-1, 7 KOs), the reigning and defending World Boxing Association (“WBA”) and International Boxing Association (“IBA”) Light Heavyweight Champion, lives and fights out of Las Vegas. The 2004 Kazakhstan Olympian set a light heavyweight record for capturing a world title in the fewest career fights, 10, when (Jan. 10, 2010) he won a 12-round decision against Gabriel Campillo in Las Vegas. He has since successfully defended his WBA/IBA titles twice against No. 1 mandatory challenger Viacheslav Uzelkov (UDEC12) and three-time world champion William Joppy (KO6). In only 11 profights, Beibut has defeated four world champions (Campillo, Joppy, Byron Mitchell and Montell Griffin) and two world title challengers (Uzelkov and Epifanio Mendoza).

 

WBA #15 ranked Santiago (31-4-1, 19 KOs), fighting out of Ocala, Florida, was featured on the third season of The Contender reality television series.

 

Hudaynazarov and Ahmedov are trained by Kevin Barry, the 1984 Olympic Silver Medalist, and Dewey Cooper at Team Barry Boxing in Henderson, Nevada. “Both of these guys have had tremendous training camps,” Barry reported. “I expect them to have great performances. Beibut sets the bar high for Ravshan and Gayrat, who train with him, and Beibut has been a great leader for them to follow in the gym.”

 

Hudaynazarov (14-0, 12 KOs), the WBA FEDALATIN Welterweight Champion who is rated No. 9 by the WBA, defends his title in a 10-round bout against former USNBC titlist Hector “The Hurricane” Munoz (19-5-1, 12 KOs).

 

“Ravshan has improved so much,” Barry said. “He’s taking it to another level and is stronger than ever before. He’s already right on mark for the 29^th. I believe he’s heading towards a world title.”

 

WBA No. 2-rated light heavyweight contender Ahmedov (16-0-1, 12 KOs) defends his WBA International belt against veteran Max“The Fireman” Heyman (24-11-4, 14 KOs) in another 10-rounder.

 

“Working as a team has really helped Gayrat prepare for this fight,” Barry noted. “He has stepped up to No. 2 in the WBA and he’s getting very close to a very big fight. He has been motivated by Beibut’s success and his turn will come. I’m veryoptimistic about Gayrat.”

 

The co-feature between popular Las Vegas super featherweight Lonnie Smith (13-2-2, 9 KOs) and Robert “The King” Vargas(5-1-1, 0 KOs) is also scheduled to air on TeleFutura’s “Sólo Boxeo Tecate” broadcast. Smith, rated No. 13 by the USBA, is riding an eight-fight win streak.

 

Las Vegas fan favorite Ramon Montano(17-9-2, 2 KOs) faces welterweight Juan Suazo (7-4-3, 5 KOs) in a six-round match. Also on the card against an opponent to be determined is Freddie Roach-trained, unbeaten super featherweight prospect Joel Diaz(4-0, 3 KOs) in a four-round bout. NEW YORK / ATLANTIC CITY (July 18, 2011)—This past Friday night at Ballys in Atlantic City, Jr. Middleweight Gabriel Rosado scored a fifth round stoppage over late replacement Ayi Bruce in a scheduled eight round that headlined a action filled six bout card that was streamed LIVE all over the world.

Rosado showed lighting quick hands and pounded a game Bruce throughout the first three rounds.  In round four, Rosado dropped Bruce with a flurry of punches before ending the round by bouncing Bruce around from pillar to post.

There was some confusion in between round’s four and five as after being battered in round four, Bruce and the referee miscommunicated and for a brief moment the referee ruled that Bruce would not continue.  But things were quickly restored and the fight continued but for not much longer as Rosado pounded Bruce and the fight was stopped at 2:56 of round four.

Rosado is now 17-5 with ten knockouts.

EDITORS NOTE—Rosado was arrested just hours after the bout after he and some friends allegedly got into an altercation where a police officer was punched in the mouth and Rosado was charged in the incident

In the co-feature, Tony Ferrante shook off a lackluster first three rounds to come back to stop Andre Hemphill in round seven of a scheduled eight round Light Heavyweight bout.

Hemphill had success by landing some good right hands over the first three frames.  In an instant he seemed to tire and began to hold.  He was deducted a point and eventually stopped in round seven.

Ferrante won his second straight fight and is now 11-2 with six knockouts.

In an entertaining six round fight, Jamaal Davis (12-8-1) and Eberto Medina (5-6-1) fought to a draw.

Decarlo Perez (4-0-1) remained undefeated by winning a four round unanimous decision over Keane Davis (1-3) in a Welterweight bout.

In what may have been the fight of the night, Bryne Green (7-4-1) knocked Tyrone Luckey (4-1) from the ranks of the undefeated by winning a four round unanimous decision in a Lightweight bout

Naim Nelson (2-0) remained undefeated by putting the first loss on Korey Sloane (1-1) via four round unanimous decision in a Jr. Welterweight bout.

WIN Mag. recognises Kris Nelson & his MSUM Dragons as Program of the Month

Kris Nelson, the Head Coach of the Dragons of Minnesota State University, Moorhead has the distinction of being chosen as RecruitAWrestler.com’s and WIN Magazine’s program of the month.

Nelson, now in his 3rd year is a former national champ and three-time All-American during a celebrated collegiate career at North Dakota State University, Kris Nelson was appointed head coach at Minnesota State University Moorhead in July of 2009.

In his second season, Nelson improved the Dragons record to 8-8, raising his overall record to 13-20. The season ended with four straight wins, highlighted by a 25-17 win over then No. 10 Upper Iowa in the season finale. Nelson coached his second All-American in Corey Ulmer as well.

In his first season as Head Coach, Nelson guided the Dragons to a 5-10 mark and finished with five national qualifiers, the third most in the NSIC. Nelson coached one of those qualifiers (Derek Bomstad) to an All-American selection.

Nelson spent the past nine seasons as an assistant wrestling coach at North Dakota State. He was a member of the Bison staff for two seasons as a student assistant coach from 2000-2002 before continuing as a graduate assistant for two years from 2002-2004.

Nelson was a three-time NCAA Division II All-American and two-time North Central Conference champion for NDSU. He won the NCAA II 133-pound national championship in 2000 and also was named the NCAA II Outstanding Wrestler. Nelson’s career harvest included 83 victories.

A native of Lisbon, ND, Nelson was a two-time North Dakota State High Champion for the Broncos and logged a career record of 128-19.

Nelson earned a bachelor’s degree in Physical Education/Health from North Dakota State in 2001 and a master’s degree in Education with an emphasis in Athletic Administration in 2006.
