This will mark the organization’s first foray into Knoxville and the line up is stacked, as the show will feature two complete MMA cards.  The 15 bout X Series main card will begin at 7:30 and will be preceded by the 14 bout Rising Fight League card at 4:30.  Doors open at 3:00 and undercardbouts will begin at 3:30.

The show is highlighted by the finals of the X Series tournaments.  The 155 final will feature hometown hero, Scott “Hot Sauce” Holtzman (4-0, Shield Systems/Knoxville, TN) taking on Charlie Alexander(3-1, Nashville MMA/Nashville, TN).  The 145 final will see top prospect Billy “Da Kid” Mullins(10-4, Fit Factory/Sevierville, TN) squaring off with the tough Chris Hall(6-4, IMA/Lebanon, TN).  Winners of both championships will be awarded their pro debut with the XFC, one of the top professional promotions in the US.  Winners will also receive a custom Grand Prix Championship belt.

The ISKA Southeastern Regional Bantamweight Title will also be on the line when champion, Matt Coakley, defends against one of the top 135 lb. prospects in the southeast, Len Cook(9-1, Absolute Jiu Jitsu/Bristol, TN). Both of these fighters are nearing the professional ranks, and this is the perfect test to see where they both stand!

TYSON JEFFRIES VS. ARTHUR GUSEINOV OFFICIAL FOR M-1 CHALLENGE: BENNETT VS GARNER LIVE ON SHOWTIME®

Posted on | June 21, 2011 | 1 Comment

Friday, July 8, 2011 From The Hangar

At the O.C. Fair and Events Center, Costa Mesa, California

NEW YORK (June 21, 2011) – M-1 GLOBAL announces the addition of 2010 M-1 Selection Americas middleweight tournament winner Tyson ‘The Anti-Hero’ Jeffries (7-5) versus feared Russian striker Arthur Guseinov (7-2) at  the mixed martial arts (MMA) event titled M-1 Challenge: Bennett vs. Garner. The bouts from The Hangar in Costa Mesa, California will air LIVE onSHOWTIME on Friday, July 8 at 11 p.m. ET/PT (Delayed on the West Coast).

The July 8th event is headlined with the rematch between the 2010 M-1 Selection Americas Tournament heavyweight finalists Pat Bennett (4-2) and Kenny ‘Deuce’ Garner (6-3).

“Tyson Jeffries is a fighter with incredible heart and a determination to consistently improve his game; he adds depth and excitement to every card and he’s a welcome addition on M-1’s second televised event on SHOWTIME,” said M-1 Global Director of Operations Evgeni Kogan. “The European fighters who participated in the March card set an extremely high bar this time out. Guseinov has been very vocal about making this an entertaining battle.”

Tickets are priced at $75 for the front row and all other seats at $50 and can be purchased online at www.fightcluboc.com, or by calling Roy Englebrecht Promotions at (949) 760-3131.

As a marquee middleweight (185 Lbs.) bout, the clash sets the stage for Jeffries to battle back into title contention after suffering a crushing defeat against the division’s newly crowned champion Magomed Sultanakhmedov.

“That was the toughest fight of my career and a humbling experience,” says Jeffries. “I’ve since spent time training in Las Vegasand in the U.K. and I’m ready to redeem myself with a much improved performance. Thank you to M-1 for the opportunity. It’s an honor to be on their second SHOWTIME card.”

Jeffries, a versatile fighter within Team Quest’s talented roster, won the 2010 M-1 Selection Americas tournament last September with a spectacular highlight reel, triangle-armbar victory over Mike Geurin.

Arthur Guseinov, the Action-Force Fight Team member, is coming off back-to-back losses against Russian submission specialist Beslan Esaev and staunch American scrapper Luigi Fioravanti.

Known for his tight clinch work, deadly spinning back-kicks and head-hunting high kicks, Guseinov’s lightning-quick striking arsenal is responsible for the majority of his KO / TKO victories. Expect his exciting fighting style to be well received by the North American audience as he brings a high powered offensive directly into Jeffries’ path.

For information on M-1 Global, go to the official M-1 website, www.M-1Global.com and M-1 Global facebook fan page.

Mauro Ranallo will call the action from ringside with Pat Miletich serving as analyst. The telecast will be produced byChuck McKean and directed by Craig Farrell.  The executive producer of SHOWTIME Sports is David Dinkins, Jr.

For information on SHOWTIME Sports programming, including exclusive behind-the-scenes video and photo galleries, complete telecast information and more, please go to the new SHOWTIME Sports website at  http://www.sho.com/sports.

KELL BROOK’S HOMETOWN SHOW COMPLETELY SOLD-OUT

Posted on | June 21, 2011 | No Comments

Full house to see Brook take on Lovemore N’dou on Saturday

Kell Brook will face Lovemore N’dou in front of a packed crowd at the Hillsborough Leisure Centre on Saturday (June 25) with promoters Matchroom Sport confirming the 888poker.com-sponsored show is a sell-out.

The Steel City show makes it back-to-back sell outs for Matchroom Boxing after the Prizefighter Welterweights II event at York Hall in east London was a full-house hit.

Brook fights in his home town for the first time in five years live on Sky Sports 2 and HD2 from 8.30pm and the unbeaten Welterweight star admitted there will be some nerves when he tackles the experienced 39 year-old Australian-based South African, who has yet to be stopped in 62 pro fights.

“I’m a professional so I hope I’ll be calm and do the job in a professional manner,” said Brook. “But with a sell-out crowd in to see me, with all my family there, it’s going to be so a great occasion.

“My Granddad is going to be coming which I’m so happy about. He’s getting on a bit now so he doesn’t like to travel too much, but he’ll be ringside and he’s a Sheffield man who’s loved his boxing forever, all the British greats like Henry Cooper and John Conteh, so for him to be there is something very special.

“There’s not going to be a single face in the place that I don’t know! I’m down the road from my house, I’m in a hard fight, and I’ve got all these people coming down to see what I can do, asking ‘can he dance like he says he can dance?’ Well, the time will come on Saturday to show people what I can do.”

Brook – whose new official website www.kellbrook.co.uk is now live – says he knows N’dou will provide him with the toughest test of his career so far, but he feels he’s ready to impress with a move to new promoters giving him a real boost.

“Since joining Matchroom everything has changed,” said Brook. “The relationship I’ve got with Eddie Hearn and with Sky Sports is amazing, and I’ve been everywhere, interviews on Ringside, commentating on Prizefighter – I couldn’t wish for anything better and I’m in a really good place now.

“I’ve done all the interviews and there’s a lot of people talking about me – but no-one has seen me fight for a while so it’s time to show them what Kell Brook can do and prove I can live up to the hype.”
