Tickets nearly gone for Kell Brook’s homecoming

Kell Brook says he is in perfect shape ahead of his Sheffield homecoming on June 25 live on Sky Sports against Lovemore N’dou – and a sell-out crowd will see him in action.

Only a limited number of unreserved tickets priced £30 are available for the Hillsborough Leisure Centre show, with ringside and inner-ringside completely sold-out.

The scrap for the vacant WBA International Welterweight title will be Brook’s first outing in Sheffield since May 2005. The 25 year-old lives just a stone’s throw from the venue that he says will see him become the first man to stop N’dou – the tough Australian-based South African veteran of 62 fights.

“I’m so excited that the Sheffield fans have snapped up tickets to the fight,” said Brook. “I can promise them they won’t be disappointed – it’s a massive night for me and I plan to put on a dazzling show for those lucky enough to be there to watch it.

“I know N’dou will be a real test but that’s what I want – an opponent who is going to take me to places I haven’t been so far. I’m training to go 12 rounds with him but I know that stopping him will send out a real message that I am ready to mix it with the very best and fight for a World title.”

It’s Brook’s first fight since he took just two rounds to dismantle Philip Kotey in Liverpool in December for his 23^rd win as a pro. Stopping N’dou would take ‘Special K’ to 17 KO’s in 24 fights, and the Sheffield stylist is ready to follow in the footsteps of Sheffield greats from the Ingle’s Wincobank stable like Johnny Nelson, Prince Naseem Hamed and Junior Witter on the road to World title glory.

“Sheffield’s tradition for great fighters is well known,” said Brook. “The Ingles gym is a special place – not many gyms have produced such a high number of World champions and top boxers and I am determined to join that list.

“There are big, big fights out there for me – but first things first, I need to see of N’dou and do it in style live on Sky Sports. If I do that, then we’ll be looking at something big down the line and I can’t wait.”

World Champs Collide In London – Choi Says He’ll Knock Asiku Out This Saturday

This weekend the Capital’s boxing fans will be treated to a mouth watering battle for supremacy between a current and former World Champion. The international contest, at York Hall in Bethnal Green, pits Mongolia’s two time World Featherweight Champion Choi Tseveenpürev against Australia’s former IBO World Featherweight Champion ‘Action’ Jackson Asiku in a non-Championship bout.

In an amazing coup promoter Spencer Fearon has managed to persuade the two top flight fighters to headline his Hard Knocks Boxing promotions ‘Summer Smash’ event this coming Saturday.

Choi won the vacant WBF title in 2006, with a spectacular third round stoppage of Kenyan WBF International Champion David Kiilu at the Tara Leisure Centre in Shaw, Lancashire, and successfully defended the title twice in 2007.

The following year Choi vacated the WBF title in order to challenge Liverpool’s ‘Dirty’ Derry Matthews for his WBU crown. On the fifth of April 2011, at the Bolton Arena in Bolton, Choi won his second World crown in spectacular fashion.

For five scintillating rounds Choi battered the highly rated Champion, sending Matthews to the canvas no less than five times, three times in the third and twice in fifth  – the first via a wicked hook to the body midway through followed by vicious fight ending body shot in the final seconds of the round.

Choi, who never got the chance to defend the WBU crown, has longed for another championship shot and is hopeful that Saturday’s fight with Asiku, who lost his grip on the IBO belt in September, will kick start a third World championship campaign.

Speaking earlier Choi spoke of the upcoming fight and his fiercely burning championship aspirations,  “My training’s over and I can knock him out, that’s it.

After this my ambition is another title, I have two belts now, WBF and WBU, but nobody wants to fight me for the belts.

I want a major belt, I need a Mexican. I like fighting, I’m ready for long time now.

The last year has been the worse time you know, so many protected fighters, they are just like kids, so protected and don’t want real fight.

British boxing used to be very, very good, nowadays they’re just like little boys, they fight like little boys.

Mongolese amateur kids would beat any top professional boxers in lower weight divisions.

I’m very happy now with Spencer (Fearon) and fighting in London. Best crowds at Hard Knock promotions shows. The best fans in the world, I will make them happy with a good win Saturday.”

Troy Ross returns for June 24 show in Ontario, Canada

TORONTO (June 14, 2011) – NABA Lightweight Champion Logan Cotton McGuinness defends his title for the first time June 24^th in the 10-round main event against Daniel “Canerito” Ruiz, headlining “Friday Night At The Fights,” at Hershey Centre in Mississauga, Ontario, Canada.

 

The “Friday Night At the Fights” show is presented by United Boxing Promotions, in association with McGuiness’ promoter, Hennessy Sports, and Groupe Yvon Michel.

 

Hot, unbeaten prospect McGuinness (14-0-1, 7 KOs), rated No. 11 by the WBA, will be fighting at home where he won the NABA belt this past February, stopping veteran Hector Julio Avila (47-5) in the fourth round.

 

The only blemish on Cotton’s otherwise perfect pro record is a six-round draw 13 months ago with dangerous Walter Estrada, who holds victories against former world champion Nate Campbell and Verquan Kimbrough.

 

Ruiz (22-3-1, 16 KOs) will be fighting outside of his native Mexico for the first time. He is undefeated in his last five fights with four wins and a draw. He is the former Mexican Pacific Coast Featherweight Champion.

 

Two-time Canadian Olympian and world title cruiserweight challenger, Troy Ross (24-2, 16 KOs), fights an opponent to soon be determined in an eight-round Special Feature. Ross is the top-rated IBF contender at No. 3 (#1 and #2 are not rated), as well as ranked No. 5 by The Ring magazine, No. 14 by the WBA, and No. 15 by the WBC.

New Haven Six to be showcased June 18 on ‘The New Generation Boxing Series’ in Hartford

HARTFORD (June 13, 2011) – Undefeated, highly-regarded junior featherweight Luis Rosa, Jr. (6-0, 5 KOs) lead the New Haven Six into the Connecticut Convention Center in Hartford this Saturday night, launching “The New Generation Boxing Series,” presented by Bulldog Cartel Promotions, Saturday night, June 18 at.

 

“This new series is all about Connecticut boxers fighting at home,” said former pro boxer and new Bulldog Cartel promoter Craig Salamone. “There are a lot of talented, young boxers in this state and our goal is to get them fighting at home on a regular basis in order for them to build fan-bases. We have six New Haven-based fighters on this show and our plans call for us to promote our next show in New Haven later this summer.”

 

The eight-round main event features two veteran cruiserweights sporting deceiving records, Joshua “Juice”Harris (7-4-1, 5 KOs), of Providence, and Harvey “Candy Man” Jolly (11-17-1, 6 KOs).

 

Undefeated Puerto Rican welterweight prospect Javier “El Chino” Flores (5-0, 5 KOs), now fighting out of Hartford, takes on veteran Shaka Moore (11-15-3, 2 KOs), of Norwalk, in the eight-round co-feature.

 

Rosa, Jr. (6-0, 5 KOs), who recently signed a promotional contract DiBella Entertainment, takes on dangerousShawn “Bones” Nichol (5-4, 5 KOs) in a six-round bout. As a heralded amateur boxer, Rosa was a two-time New England Golden Gloves champion and 2009 USA Boxing National Championship silver medalist, which earned him a spot on the US National Boxing Team.

 

New Haven favorites such as lightweight Oscar Bonilla, junior featherweight Josh Crespo and super middleweight Charles Foster will all be making their pro debuts in four-round matches, respectively, versusCorey White (1-1, 1 KO) and a pro debuting pair of opponents, Frankie Garriga and Lee Snow.

 

Two other New Haven boxers are slated to be in action June 18: junior welterweight Carlos Hernandez (0-2) and undefeated super lightweight Christian Lao (2-0, 1 KOs), who will square-off, respectively, againstBarrington Douse (0-1) and Javier Calderon (1-0, 1 KO).

Team Puerto Rico Participates in Puerto Rican Day Parade in New York   Yesterday, members of Team Puerto Rico Boxing participated in the Puerto Rican Day Parade in New York.Walking the route to the loud cheers of the huge crowd were NABA Welterweight Champion Thomas Dulorme (12-0, 10 KO’s), José “Sniper” Pedraza (3-0, 3 KO’s), NABA Featherweight Champion Luis “Orlandito” del Valle (13-0. 10 KO’s) and Kenny “Battlestar” Galarza (15-1, 14 KO’s).   By participating in the parade, Team Puerto Rico celebrated their perfect sweep of victories over the strongest opponents of their careers by dancing to the beat of salsa, merengue and afro Cuban beats.   “It was a great experience to share with my people. I never had the opportunity to participate in the parade, I really liked it and want to go back,” said an enthusiastic Dulorme.   Last Friday, on ESPN Friday Night Fights, Dulorme had the biggest win of his career by beating the former world champion Marcus Corley by unanimous decision in a 10-round fight.   Super prospect Jose Pedraza said, “I will never forget this experience. Puerto Ricans in New York are very good people and I want to go back next year and be with them again.” “This was the best way to end a very special week for us. Team Puerto Rico each had strong tests and each won and demonstrated their world-class skills, “said Javier Bustillo, President of Universal Promotions.
