Pre-Fight Talk Heated Between Gonzalez and Gutierrez

Hundley III/SHOWTIME Tensions rose today at the Parlour Restaurant in midtown Manhattan during a press conference to discuss the back-to-back Team Puerto Rico boxing events this weekend, when hard-punching prospect Jonathan “Mantequilla” Gonzalez (13-0, 13 KOs) and his opponent, tough veteran Richard Gutierrez, quickly figured out they dislike each other.   “You haven’t fought anybody,” asserted Gutierrez with a growl.   “I’ve fought 13 guys and knocked them all out. You’re going to be #14,” Gonzalez shot back.   Things degenerated back and forth from there until they culminated with:   “He’s a clown. I’m going to destroy him,” from Gonzalez.   “We’ll see in the ring,” came the quick reply from Gutierrez.   Gonzalez and Gutierrez will meet in a 10-round battle for the NABA and WBO Latino Youth Junior Middleweight Championships at Boricua Invasion II, on June 11, at Roseland Ballroom in New York City and televised live on ShoBox: The New Generation at 10:35 p.m. ET/PT on SHOWTIME.   In the featured attraction, Team Puerto Rico’s Luis “Orlandito” Del Valle (12-0, 10 KOs), of Bayamon, P.R., will meet his toughest foe to date, Dat “Be Dat” Nguyen (17-1, 6 KOs) of Vietnam, in a 10-round featherweight matchup.   Luis Del Valle and Jonathan Gonzalez are members of Team Puerto Rico, the boxing teamdeveloped by promoters Gary Shaw, Lou DiBella, Javier Bustillo and Leon Margules in order to group the best young talent on the island on one team. “THE AMERICAN SOLDIER” ERIC PRINDLE IS READY TO MARCH THROUGH THE COMPETITION IN BELLATOR

“I don’t make predictions; I make preparations.”

Monterrey (México): In an age of hulking heavyweights, there are many monstrosities populating MMA cages across the world. There are extremely tall heavyweights, such as Stefan Struve and Tim Sylvia, and then there are heavyweights that could easily be mistaken for NFL defensive ends, including Shane Carwin and Brock Lesnar. Rare is the man that can combine both. Yet, to anyone that has been in the presence of “The American Soldier” Eric Prindle (7-1, six T/KO finishes), that rarity certainly exists.

 

At 6’5”, 290 lbs., the massive Prindle is quickly carving out a reputation as a devastating finisher who can electrify fight fans. Recently, he made his Bellator Fighting Championships debut, administering a beating to Josh Burns that caused the doctor to stop the fight due to the damage inflicted. As a result, the Prescott, Arizona native was recently announced to be part of the upcoming Bellator heavyweight tournament.

 

“I’m proud to be in the Bellator tournament, and honored to be fighting among the best up-and-coming heavyweights in the world,” said Prindle. Not knowing who is opponent will be yet, “The American Soldier” is undeterred. “I’m physically and mentally prepared for a war, regardless of the opponent. I’m going to be in the best shape of my life. I’m improving my game every day, getting faster and stronger for my next opponent.”

 

“The American Soldier,” who made his pro MMA debut in Mexico in 2004, is managed by Michael Shoffner. Shoffner is the CEO of top Mexican fight promotion Combate Extremo (C.E.), with which Prindle is under exclusive contract to. Recognizing both the opportunity Prindle is being provided by Bellator, as well as the opportunity to support another MMA promotion, Shoffner has facilitated the participation of his charge in the Bellator tourney.

 

“Bellator is a great promotion, and we appreciate the opportunity Eric’s been given to really make his mark on MMA in their cage,” stated Shoffner. “You can expect to see more domination from Eric in the coming months and years. I’m expecting him to be the next BIG thing – pun intended.”

 

“I loved fighting for Bellator,” explained Prindle. “The tournament structure is awesome. I’m going to put on a war and enjoy every second of it. The promotion is great…they really take care of their fighters.”

Boxing 360 Wins Arbitration Hearing

NEW YORK (June 8, 2011) – Boxing 360 has won an arbitration hearing involving Chicago-based pro boxers David Estrada and Angel Hernandez, as well as their manager, Wasfi Tolaymat.

 

The American Arbitration Association in the City of New York found in favor of Boxing 360 as Estrada and Hernandez’ promoters, valid through February 15, 2013, as well as denying the aforementioned boxers’ claims for injunctive relief.

 

“They’re still under contract with Boxing 360,” Boxing 360 Founder/CEO Mario Yagobi said. “My main goal was to show them and, as a relatively new boxing promoter, everybody in boxing that fighters can’t pull that stuff with Boxing 360. We proved that Boxing 360 will fight for what it believes in.

 

“I’d like to thank our lawyer, Attorney Pat English, for doing a wonderful job in such a professional manner, as well as Bob Duffy (Boxing 360 Director of Boxing) for all of the hard work he put into this case.”

Rising star Javier Flores ready to shine June 18 on ‘The New Generation Boxing Series’ card in Hartford

HARTFORD (June 8, 2011) – Undefeated Puerto Rican welterweight prospect Javier “El Chino” Florestakes on veteran Shaka Moore in the eight-round co-feature on “The New Generation Boxing Series,” presented by Bulldog Cartel Promotions, Saturday night, June 18 launches its Saturday night, June 18 at the Connecticut Convention Center in Hartford.

 

The eight-round main event features battle-tested cruiserweights with deceiving records, Joshua “Juice”Harris (7-4-1, 5 KOs), of Providence, and Harvey “Candy Man” Jolly (11-17-1, 6 KOs).

 

Flores (5-0, 5 KOs), now fighting out of Hartford, has stopped each of his five opponents as a professional, including an electrifying second-round knockout of Marcus Hall this past February. As an amateur in Puerto Rico, Javier won 65 of 68 matches with 32 knockouts and all of his losses were on points.

 

“I’m going to give the public a good fight to watch,” Flores said the former Puerto Rico Nationa Boxing Team member. “I’m giving a maximum effort to make it an action-packed fight. I don’t go into a fight looking for a knockout, but after a round or two feeling out my opponent, once I know he can’t hurt me I apply more pressure, break him down, and the knockout comes.“I have power in both hands and a variety of punches. My friends like my left upper-cut the best and I’m working to use that punch in combinations with different punches.”

 

The 35-year-old veteran Moore (11-15-3, 2 KOs), of Norwalk (CT), is coming off of a win in April by fourth-round technical decision against Noel Garcia, also at the Connecticut Convention Center. During his 15-year pro career, he’s fought the likes of Israel “Pito” Cardona and Demetrius Hopkins.

 

“I know my opponent has a lot of experience,” Flores noted. His last fight I noticed that he didn’t have a lot of stamina. On June 18^th I’m going to apply pressure and expose him”

 

Another hot prospect on the card, super middleweight Lamar Russ (7-0, 5 KOs), puts his perfect record on the line against TBA. Russ, also fighting out of Hartford, upset Haitian Olympian Elie Augustama by six-round decision in December.

 

Promising junior featherweight Luis Rosa, Jr. (6-0, 5 KOs), representing New Haven, vs. Shawn “Bones”Nichol (5-4, 5 KOs) in a six-rounder. Also fighting on the undercard in four-round bouts are New Haven junior welterweight Carlos Hernandez (0-2) against Springfield’s (MA) Barrington Douse (0-1), along with three New Haven boxers making their pro debuts – lightweight Oscar Bonilla vs. Corey White (1-1, 1 KO), junior featherweight Josh Crespo vs. Frankie Garriga and super middleweight Charles Foster vs. Lee Snow. Garriga and Snow will also be making their pro debuts.

 

Former IBO super bantamweight champion “Machine Gun” Mike Oliver (24-2, 8 KOs), rated No. 2 by the USBA and fighting out of Hartford, vs. TBA and unbeaten New Haven super lightweight Christian Lao (2-0, 1 KO) vs. Javier Calderon (1-0, 1 KO)have been added to the card.
