Bad Chad Ready for Return!

Even though he won’t be appearing in the main event tonight, former WBC world champion “Bad” Chad Dawson (29-1, 17 KO’s) is eagerly awaiting his chance to remind the world he is the best fighter on the card.   Dawson will meet fellow former champ Adrian Diaconu (27-2, 15 KO’s) in the 12-round main supporting bout of the “Dynasty II: Pascal vs. Hopkins” event at the Bell Center in Montreal that will be televised live on HBO’s World Championship Boxing® in the United States and on pay-per-view in Canada at 10:00 p.m. ET/7:00 p.m. PT.   To face Diaconu, Dawson is returning to the scene of his first and only professional loss, last August, losing his title against main event participant Jean Pascal via 11-round technical decision – a fight in which he looked tentative for many of the early rounds before finding his range too late. Dawson had Pascal reeling when an unintentional headbutt forced a premature ending and a trip to the scorecards.   For this fight, Dawson has been trained by the legendary Emanuel Steward at the Kronk Gym in Detroit.   You’ve already made weight for your fight. How do you feel?   I feel great. I’m very well rested and well conditioned. Ready to get back in and show everybody I’m still the best light heavyweight in the world and showcase my talent.   Is it hard for you to probably be the best fighter on the card, but not be in the main event?   It’s kind of humbling, but I just take it how it comes. It’s a privilege to be on the card in front of a big crowd and a big television audience.   What do you know about your opponent, Adrian Diaconu?   We were scheduled to fight a few years ago and it didn’t happen. Now we’ll do it. He’s a strong guy and a big puncher, but nothing I have to worry about. I’m in great shape and everything is great. I can’t wait to get out there and execute.   Who do you hope wins between Pascal and Hopkins? Who would you rather face?   It doesn’t matter. I would love to get Bernard in the ring. I’ve been chasing him so long. But taking my revenge on Pascal would be great too.   How do you feel when you watch the tape of your loss to Pascal?   It’s painful for me to watch. It wasn’t me in there that night. I can’t believe I fought that way. I can’t believe it took me so long to come after him. It will be totally different next time.   So you think Pascal just got lucky?   He definitely got lucky. He wasn’t going to make it out of that round. After the headbutt, the referee stopped it without even giving my corner a chance to stop the cut. He got a lucky victory.   Any qualms about fighting in Diaconu’s backyard?   I’ve been in this situation before. My last fight was in front of a hostile crowd. It doesn’t bother me at all. It’s only me and him in the ring. Kings Boxing Promotions presents “Fight For Hope” at the Sovereign Center on Saturday, May 21st. First bout starts at 6 PM EDT.

Junior middleweight boxer Keenan Collins of Reading, PA is set to make big waves in his hometown on May 21 when he headlines King’s Promotions ‘Fight For Hope’ boxing event at the Sovereign Center.

The heavy-handed Collins, who has a record of 12-5-2 (8 KO), will face Allentown, PA’s Jorge Delgado (4-9, 2 KO) in a six-round bout with crosstown bragging rights at stake. Collins’ matchup was elevated to main event status after local heavyweight star Travis Kauffman withdrew from the card with a shoulder injury.

‘It’s good to be back at home,’ said Collins, who is making his fourth appearance at the venue. ‘I get to show my people what I love to do, and that’s box. My kids can see the reason why Daddy wakes up in the morning and does his running.’

This will be Collins’ first fight since December of 2009. Collins decided he needed a break from the sport after five straight years of boxing. He labored away in King’s Boxing Gym in Reading with head trainer Marshall Kauffman as he waited for the right time to return to the ring.

‘I really have been impressed with his ethic in the gym,’ said Kauffman. ‘I think he’s a much smarter fighter than he was before. What I see more of that I hadn’t seen in the last couple years is his aggressive style. He’s dropped a couple guys in the gym. That’s what he used to have when he was starting and a lot of people were worried about fighting him.’

Collins started his career 12-1-1 before being sidetracked in 2007. In a stretch where he faced two undefeated prospects and a top-rated title contender, Collins’ career lost the glimmer of promise that had separated him from the pack as a prospect.

Now a seasoned veteran, Collins is resuming his career with a renewed optimism that embodies the show’s theme, Reading’s fight for hope.

‘I have five kids, and I let them know that Daddy trains hard and that hard work pays off. You get a crowd yelling for you and at the end of the fight you get to put your hands up.’

‘I’m being a role model to my kids, and I’m leading by example. My daughter plays an instrument and at the end of her concerts, she wants to have the crowd standing up.’

The rest of of the pro card will be comprised of local Pennsylvania talent such as heavyweight William Miranda (2-3) of Allentown, the pro debuts of Williamsport heavyweight Randy Easton and Reading welterweight Cesar Gonzales, welterweight Grayson Blake (1-0, 1 KO) of State College, PA, and lightweight Travis ‘The Animal’ Thompson (4-7-1, 3 KO) of Pottstown, PA.

The card will also feature some of the best local amateur talent, including Quincy Staples of Reading against Abram Santos of Allentown in a rubber match to settle a 1-1 tie.

Xavier Melendez of Reading will face Exeter Township’s Kenny Williams, Fabian Valentin of Reading versus Elmer Madenia from Lebanon, and 6’6″, 280 pound Super Heavyweight Giant Joe Campano versus Darnell Hayes from Lebanon.

And in female amateurs, Tassalea ‘The Princess’ Lopez of Reading will face Janel Grim of Lebanon.

Hinchliffe and Ryan Ford set to collide at “Confrontation”

Edmonton, Alberta (Canada): Ryan “The Real Deal” Ford is seen by many as the next great Canadian star to come out of the Great White North. This opinion was only further cemented by Ford’s vicious TKO victory over former UFC welterweight contender Karo Parisyan May 19^th in Ontario. Up next for “The Real Deal” will be a bout at his home promotion Aggression MMA’s next event, entitled “Confrontation,” where he will lock horns with Nick “The Juggernaut” Hinchliffe. While not the lightning rod of attention that “The Real Deal” is, Hinchliffe is a threat in the cage that needs to be taken seriously. And if “The Juggernaut” has anything to say about it, Ryan Ford is going to find that out on June 10^th in at the Shaw Conference Center in Edmonton, Alberta at “Confrontation.”

Recently, Ford was quoted as saying, “All I gotta say is that Nick better step his game up from his last few fights, cause I’m on a whole different level than any fighter he’s fought. Everything that I bring to the fight…he won’t be able to handle it. So, bottom line, he ain’t G’d up, so he’s gettin’ beat up.”

In response, Hinchliffe had this to say: “I think Ford is having a war of words with himself. I don’t talk trash or need to make up a grudge in order to fight someone. I don’t mind…it’s just Ford’s style. He’s a good fighter and quite a personality. His whole ‘G’d up, beat up’ line was classic. I’m as white as they come. I drive a family car because I have a kid. I don’t know about getting beat up, but don’t plan on that, bro. But you’re right…I’m not ‘G’d up’…ha.”

How do you prepare for a tough fighter like Ford? “I don’t game plan too much, but I definitely see some holes [in his game] that I think I can exploit during the fight, and I’m working them into my training,” explains “The Juggernaut.”

To the fans, Hinchliffe had this to say: “Expect a war. It’s a line used often, I know, but I promise it. If Ford thinks I’m an easy fight, then ain’t right, and I will make it a quick night. Ha! That’s about as ‘G’d up’ as I get. If he wants to come in aggressive like he does, then don’t expect me to back down. I’m gonna meet you head on. I’m looking forward to our fight, Ford.”

Aggression MMA’s “Confrontation,” which will feature a main event between nationally-ranked welterweight starsRyan “The Real Deal” Ford (14-3) and Nick “Juggernaut” Hinchliffe (18-7). This highly-anticipated event will take place Friday, June 10^th, at the Shaw Conference Center in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada. “Confrontation” will also showcase two-time world Muay Thai champion Shane “Shaolin” Campbell (4-1), submission wizard Luke Harris(6-1), and the MMA debut of world Muay Thai champion Levi Krupe.
