Wilson was terrific all night as he landed some booming rights and hard jabs from the outset.
The product of Wilson’s work showed early as Sheika was bleeding from his right eye as early as round two. Wilson controlled the early rounds but you could that if he was to win this belt he would have to earn it.
The two continued to pound each other with Wilson getting the advantage and cutting the left eye of Sheika in the middle rounds.
Every time Sheika looked to be turning the fight around, it was Wilson landing shots out of the corner that quickly turned the tide in his advantage.
The last part of the fight was fast and furious as a desperate Sheika was banking on the one shot that would turn it around. There were a few instances where it looked like that was going to happen but Wilson not only weathered the storm but continued to pile up the points on his to get the victory.
Along with winning the coveted USBA belt, Wilson will most likely receive a favorable world ranking by the IBF and big fights will be on the horizon for the fighter so correctly dubbed “The Ultimate Warrior”
For Sheika it looks to be the end of the line for Paterson, New Jersey native as he had a terrific career by competing for the Super Middleweight championship of the world four times and fighting many memorable bouts.

It was a close three round with both guys getting in some good shots before an arm injury shut down Guzman for the night.
Cruz, who is one of the fastest up and coming prospects in the country, is now 12-0 with nine knockouts.
Bryant “By By” Jennings kept his record perfect by scoring three knockdowns en route to a stoppage after the second round over David Williams in a battle of Philadelphia based Heavyweights.
Much like Cruz, Jennings is starting to garner buzz as his record now reads 7-0 with four knockouts.

Conyers Gets Second Chance at Destiny

Aptly named “The Dream Shatterer”, 34-year-old Bronx, New York, native Allen Conyers (12-4, 9 KOs) has made a career of spoiling other people’s plans. Time after time, junior middleweight Conyers is brought into an opponent’s backyard, expected to lose and time after time, he shatters the favored fighter’s dreams by scoring the upset.
Conyers will get the chance to do it again when he meets another fighter known as a spoiler, Chicago-based veteran “King” Carlos Molina at The Cosmopolitan of Las Vegas on April 29 and live on ESPN2’s Friday Night Fights.
Tall and long-armed with good punching power, Conyers is trained by Luis Olmo and his assistant, Carlton Mitchell, at the World Class Boxing Gym in the Bronx.
Conyers found his way to boxing at age 17 through his cousin, the late legendary rapper Christopher Rios (aka Big Pun), who was already boxing and brought him along.
Taking to the sport immediately, Conyers had 11 amateur fights before realizing he was more suited to the pros. “I had a pro style. I punch hard and I was always hurting people. Amateur boxing isn’t about that, it’s about scoring points, so I figured I should just turn pro.”
Conyers says he loves his nickname “The Dream Shatterer”, which was given to him by Rios. “I’m always the underdog, so it fits me,” he explains.
Even in his defeats, he has been impressive. In a ShoBox televised showdown with highly regarded prospect James Kirkland, both Conyers and Kirkland both hit the deck in a wild and wooly affair that Kirkland ended up winning. “I knew if I hurt him once I could hurt him again, but inexperience caught up with me and I got too eager.”
Despite taking the fight against Molina on 10 days notice, Conyers vows that this time, it’s going to be a lot different. “This fight, I’m very confident. I feel a lot better this time. I stay in the gym, so the short notice doesn’t bother me. I’m basically used to it. As long as I’m in shape, I know I can win. It (a victory over Molina) would put me back on the map. People don’t usually get second chances. I’m blessed to be getting one.”
In his 16-fight career, Conyers has pulled off upset victories over Jonathan Tubbs (then 7-1-1); Russell Jordan (for the New York State Welterweight Championship) who was, at the time, 12-3; Derek Ennis (then 10-0-1); and in his last fight in January of this year, he came back from a three-year layoff, drove to Detroit on short notice and pounded out a unanimous decision over (then 20-0) James De la Rosa, dropping him three times.
“I was too strong for him,” he humbly explains.
Conyers says he thinks Molina is a capable veteran and saw his last fight, a controversial draw against Cuban prospect Erislandy Lara. “He’s a good fighter. He throws a lot of punches and he’s a worthy opponent, but I won’t let anybody change my destiny. I always thought I would be champ. I just have to get breaks and do the work. I’m very happy for the opportunity. Nobody wants to fight anybody anymore in boxing, so I’m happy Carlos took this fight and I’m looking forward to seeing myself on TV again.”

Casal & Serrano knockouts in Boxing 360 debuts

NEW YORK (April 26, 2011) – Welterweight Nick “Hands of Gold” Casal and unbeaten lightweight Amanda “The Real Deal” Serrano made impressive Boxing 360 debuts last Friday night in Hamburg, New York.
Fighting for the first time in 1 ½ years, Casal (30-4-1, 16KOs) stopped veteran Martin Tucker (7-9, 3 KOs) in the third round, while unbeaten 23-year-old Serrano (9-0-1, 5 KOs) completed her trilogy with former IWBF champion Ela“Bam Bam” Nunez (9-9, 2 KOs) by way of a fourth-round knockout.
“We’re very happy with the performances by Nick and Amanda,” Boxing 360 CEO & Founder Mario Yagobi said. “We’re going to keep them busy, move them up the ratings ladder, and position them for world title fight shots.”
Tucker has been somewhat of a gatekeeper for the 147-pound division having fought top prospects such as undefeated Sharif Bogere (19-0, 2 KOs) and Ivan Popoca (15-0-1, 10 KOs), and he also upset previously unbeaten Michael Torres (13-0). Casal dropped a game Tucker at the end of the opening round, once again with a flurry of punches in the third, after which the fight was halted.
“It felt great,” Casal spoke about his ring return. “There were a lot of people there supporting me. It’s always good fighting at home (Casal is from nearby Niagara Falls).
I was a little rusty but did a good job, especially after being off for 1 ½ years. But I’m only 25 and been fighting seven years.
“I want to stay busy and fight as often as possible. I think Mario can do that for me. Everybody makes mistakes when they’re young. I’m more mature today and I’m looking forward to fighting for a world title. No more time to play, it’s now or never for me.”
Serrano and Nunez had fought to a four-round draw in 2009, marking the lone blemish on Amanda’s pro record, and Serrano won a six-round decision (59-55, 59-55, 58-56) this past January. Serrano wanted one more fight against Nunez to make a statement by knocking her out. She did just that midway through the fourth round. Their trilogy fight is scheduled for six rounds.
Serrano is rated in the top six of four ratings groups: WBAN #3, WBC #4, GBU #5 and WIBA #6. “After the draw, we asked Nunez for a rematch and she agreed,” Serrano explained the making of their third fight. “After I beat her by decision, she asked is for a rematch and we gave it to her. My trainer was a little upset with me because I didn’t stop her, so I went back to the gym to work even hard, and ran more. I watched the (Victor) Ortiz-(Andre) Berto fight and thought about Ortiz refusing to lose. I wanted to show my profession going from a draw, to winning by decision, and then stopping her. I want to win major title this year. I want to become the face of women’s boxing.”

Lee to Face Bunema at Rosemont Rumble: NABF Middleweight Title on the Line!

Irish middleweight contender Andy Lee’s opponent has been named for his Wednesday, May 18, main event at Hitz Boxing’s “Rosemont Rumble” at the Donald E. Stephens Convention Center in Rosemont, Illinois.
Lee (25-1, 19 KOs) will face tough veteran Alex “The Technician” Bunema (31-7-2, 17 KOs) in a 10-round battle for the NABF Middleweight Championship.
In his last fight, Lee scored a sensational come-from-behind tenth-round knockout against the previously unbeaten Craig McEwan on HBO. In his long and respectable career, Bunema has fought a long list of world-class opponents and beaten former world champions Roman Karmazin and Vince Phillips.
“It’s a real credit to Andy that he’s taking on such a tough guy when he could just coast and wait for his title shot,” said Hitz Boxing founder, Bobby Hitz. “There are not a lot of fighters left like Andy Lee.”

Molina: The Underdog No More

Junior middleweight “King” Carlos Molina will be playing a different role than the one he’s become accustomed to lately when he meets fellow spoiler Allen Conyers in the April 29 main-event broadcast of ESPN2’s Friday Night Fights from the deck of the Boulevard Pool at The Cosmopolitan of Las Vegas.
Coming off the biggest fight of his career, a majority draw against red-hot Cuban prospect Erislandy Lara that most observers felt he had won, Molina will be entering the ring as the favorite.
He’s not used to that.
“I’m usually the underdog,” laughs the 27-year-old Chicagoan via Mexico. “But it doesn’t affect me at all. When you’re the favorite, you go do what you’re supposed to do and not worry about anybody else.”
Back in 2009, Molina (17-4-2, 5 KOs) had put together an excellent nine-fight string of victories over fighters he was not expected to beat including Alexis Camacho (then 17-1); current WBO #9-rated Ed Paredes (then 21-2); and Danny Perez (then 34-5) for the WBO NABO Light Middleweight title. The Perez victory even put Molina in the top 15 of their world ratings. Unfortunately after that fight, Molina spent nearly two years inactive because of a contract dispute with his former promoter, Don King.
The layoff following the Perez win was not the first time bad luck or politics had affected his career. In 2005, Molina scored what should have been a breakthrough victory over “Son of a Legend” Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. only to be given a draw on the scorecards. The two fought again in 2006 and this time Molina dropped a questionable majority decision.
“According to my trainer, I’ve only lost one fight. It was close but I was knocked down once and that was the difference.”
Molina prepares at the JABB Gym in Chicago with longtime trainers Victor Mateo and Lou Askenette. Coming off 20 months on the shelf to put in a surprisingly strong performance against Lara, he explains, was the result of never having stopped training, even during the dispute with King. “That’s why I took the fight with Lara, to get back to where I left off. I was always in the gym. I was running and working out five days a week and focusing on trying to improve things.”
Similar to Conyers, Molina had only six amateur fights before turning pro. “I didn’t like fighting only three rounds. I said ‘you train that hard for three rounds?’ I said I might as well turn.”
The pair share several similarities, a fact Molina is well aware of. “He looks like he’s in the same situation as me: no manger and no promoter, taking fights against undefeated guys. He’s a tough guy, but I’ll just work my defense and not get hit.”
Not getting hit much in ten-round fight against a world-class opponent? Now that’s a role Molina is used to.
