Former World Lightweight Champion Graham Earl has linked up with his former longtime coach Johnny Eames to present a night of professional boxing at Tattersalls Sales Rooms in Newmarket, Suffolk on Saturday 30th April.
The special event, named ‘Return Of The Mac’, is headlined by Newmarket Light Middleweight prospect ‘Phat’ Pat McAleese, with support bouts featuring Cheshunt’s undefeated Welterweight Bobby Gladman, exciting Slough Super Bantamweight Ian Bailey and debuting Super Middleweight Henry Bacon from Ipswich. In addition further boxers from Graham Earl’s stable are also set to feature.
Following a coaching session, at his famous TKO Boxing Gym in Canning Town, Johnny Eames said, “It’s a show we’ve been doing for a couple of years now, mainly for Pat McAleese, and I’m really pleased that my good friend, and former fighter, Graham Earl is to promote the event this year.
It’s only a 900 seat venue and Pat tends to sell most of the tickets so it gives us a chance to give some of our own boys who don’t really sell tickets a chance to be the house fighter.
Although with this time it being a race weekend we’ve had to go with a couple of ticket sellers to ease Pat a little bit of stress.
We really enjoy doing the shows there, Newmarket’s a lovely town, the people are nice there and they support the show really well. We’re hoping to do a bigger show there in the future with Pat McAleese going for a title fight.
We’ve got young Ian Bailey on the show, Ian’s a kid that really deserves a house fight for a change. He’s fought virtually every top prospect in the country at his weight. He’s won a couple of them, got beat on a couple of them. He don’t sell a lot of tickets so not a lot of promoters will use him as a house fighter.
This event gives us the chance for him to be a house fighter. The kid should have a lot better record than he’s got. Given the circumstances five and seven isn’t a bad return really, when you think about some of the boys he’s boxed. Yeah, Ian deserves the chance of being the house fighter and hopefully we can get him a win.
Ian’s always exciting to watch, Pat’s an exciting fighter and so’s Bobby Gladman, who’s seven and O, who’s a new kid to us, he was recommended to us by Billy Joe Saunders.
He’s actually managed by Mickey Helliet and he’s with us for training and looking good in training and I’m excited to be seeing him fighting on the show.
Henry Bacon came to us via Stevie Smith, he’s managed by Tony Simms and trained by Steve ‘Spartacus’ Smith, I’m sure you all remember Spartacus. He had a great fight with one of my fighters, Tony Oakey, for the British title, he got stopped with about a minute to go of the last round but that was a great fight. It got Tony his British title, which he really wanted to get.
Henry Bacon I don’t know too much about him, he was an ABA quarter or semi finalist a couple of times and he’ll be debuting against one of my old fighters, Danny Goode.
Graham will have one or two of his fighters on the show, not sure who yet but knowing Graham they’ll be a couple of lads that are really up for it and who’ll put on a great show.
Apparently Pat’s doing really well with his tickets already. I’m sure that a lot of the boys who have taken tickets will do their quota, but as I said what we are up against is it’s a race weekend and of course the Royal Wedding, which not to many of us will be going to so it shouldn’t affect us too much on selling tickets. I aint had my invite yet anyway, but who knows maybe that’ll come in this afternoon’s post.
Pat’s a very popular fighter in Newmarket and we’ve got a great show planned so I’m sure it’ll be a great success.”

‘Kid Chocolate’ played Wild Card as unbeaten Peter Quillin headed West for Success

NEW YORK (April 11, 2011) – A year ago, undefeated prospect Peter “Kid Chocolate” Quillin packed his bags and headed West, moving from Brooklyn to Los Angeles in what can only be described as a culture shock experience.
Quillin, who was rated as high as No. 5 by the IBF before a series of unfortunate circumstances (broken hand, hairline fracture of eye socket and emergency appendectomy) shelved him for 18 months, is now handled by multiple Trainer of the Year, Freddie Roach, at his famed Wild Card Gym.
“I moved to LA for my boxing career and it’s made a huge difference,” the personable son of a Cuban father and African-American mother said. “Quality sparring is the big difference. Anytime you’re in Wild Card you could end-up sparring with world champions, former champions or up-and-comers. I’ve sparred with Gennady Golovkin (WBA middleweight champion), Julio Chavez Jr. (WBC middleweight title challenger), Mathew Macklin (European middleweight champion), Craig McEwan and others.
“You always pick up new things training here. Whether he’s there three hours, three days or three months, Freddie is the guy! Even when he’s away, Freddie is on top of everything, either from talking to his assistants or watching video tape. Freddie’s always watching you. I’ve already shown more knockout power since I’ve been training with him. I know my last two fights may have been against lesser quality guys, but I knocked them both out, setting things up with my jab and having more confidence in my punching power.”
The 27-year-old Quillin (23-0, 17 KOs), born in Chicago and raised in Grand Rapids (MI), also signed an exclusive promotional contract with Golden Boy Promotions. Now he’s on the verge of his most significant career fight April 29 in Reno, Nevada, headlining a show airing on Telefutura against former world title challenger Jessie Brinkley (35-6, 22 KOs), in a 10-round bout for the vacant USBO super middleweight title.
“Golden Boy gets you out there,” Quillin explained his reason for signing with GBP. “Everybody in boxing knows who you are because you’re in Golden Boy’s stable. They told me that they’re high on me and will try and make me a star. Thank God, I made this change for my career. I was sitting around in New York, nothing happen for me back there.
“2009 was a bad year for me, first with hand surgery that kept me out of action for three or four months, and then I was hurt sparring with world cruiserweight champion Guillermo Jones, who must have weighed about 245 pounds. I had sparred with him before for a few of his fights, it wasn’t unusual for me, and he gave me credit when he won his world title. I overcame that injury (hairline fracture eye) and then, two weeks before my fight, I was eating and my stomach felt funny. I was rushed to the hospital and had an emergency appendectomy. I came back (Feb. 6, 2010) against (Fernando) Zuniga and won (10 DEC) but was rusty.”
Two months later, “Kid Chocolate” hit the road and headed west and now, the fighter who is known for tossing candy kisses into the crowd after each of his fights is starting to make history of his own.

FRES OQUENDO ENTERS PRIZEFIGHTER THANKS TO DAVID HAYE

World champ gets his sparring partner in May 7 line-up
David Haye’s sparring partner Fres Oquendo will fight in Prizefighter International Heavyweights on Saturday 7 May at London’s Alexandra Palace – after the Hayemaker recommended him to promoter Eddie Hearn.
The 18th edition of Matchroom Sport’s eight-man, one night tournaments sees overseas fighters compete for the first time and Oquendo will be in the mix to claim the trophy and end a run of heart-breaking defeats.
Hearn has a close relationship with Haye’s promoter Adam Booth and thanks to the World champion, 38 year-old Oquendo will fight live on Sky Sports to become the first international Prizefighter champion.
“Adam made the call saying that David thought Fres deserved a shot at Prizefighter,” said Hearn. “Fres has been in with some of the biggest names in boxing and how can I turn down a request from our own Heavyweight champion!”
The Puerto Rican fighter enters the tournament on the wrong side of a split decision against Oliver McCall for the IBF Inter-Continental title in December, the 39th fight of his career but just his seventh defeat, with 32 wins, 21 coming by knockout.
After winning his first 22 fights, he lost his NABF belt to David Tua in 2002 before taking on Chris Byrd for the IBF title the following year, losing to a unanimous decision.
Oquendo challenged John Ruiz for the WBA World title in 2004 – the first time that two Hispanic fighters had ever fought for the Heavyweight belt – but Ruiz defended his title with an 11th round stoppage. After taking two years out of the ring, “Fast Fres” returned to win the WBO Latino title then took on Evander Holyfield for the USBA title in 2006 but lost a controversial decision against the Real Deal.
After adding the WBC Latino title to his WBO belt he claimed the NABA and USBA belts before taking on Jean Marc Mormeck in Paris in May 2010, losing to a unanimous decision.
Oquendo joins UK Prizefighter Heavyweight champion Michael Sprott, New Jersey’s Kevin ‘Kingpin’ Johnson who boasts 24 victories and just one defeat, a points loss to Vitali Klitschko in a WBC title challenge in December 2009, unbeaten Irish-based Cuban Mike ‘The Rebel’ Perez, who holds ten knockout victories from 13 fights, all inside three rounds, and big-hitting German Konstantin Airich, who holds 13 knockouts from 16 wins and is remembered for a crazy fight with Danny Williams in May 2008.

ROYAL FIGHT NIGHT 3 ?REPORT (VAASA, FINLAND 8.4.2011)

Finnish professional boxing stable Caramelito Promotions with its promoter Markus Lammi arranged already the second show during this year on last Friday at its home town Vaasa Finland. The show which contained 3 professional boxing matches and one Muay Thai fight took place in a local night club.
On the pro boxing matches the main event was scheduled for 6 rounds and for vacant Baltic Boxing Union (BBU) International welterweight title. The challengers were local hero Jarkko Jussila (who is also reigning WAKO Pro European champion and WKC International champion in kick boxing) and Lithuanian warrior Arvydas Trizno.
In two first rounds Trizno was taking the control of the ring while Jussila was a bit more slow to start his engine. In round three Jussila started to put more pressure and was dominating the ring. At the end of fifth round Jussila was hurting Trizno a couple of times badly and getting him near to stoppage, but wasn´t able to finalize the moment while Lithuanian boxer showed his big heart with throwing some heavy counterpunches although being very tired and hurt. The final stanza was again more equal and both boxers were able to hear the final bell. After six rounds of action Jarkko Jussila was crowned as a new BBU International welterweight champion with a split decision while judges scored were: 58-59 (in favour of Trizno), 59-57 and 58-56 in favour of Jussila. With the victory Jussila improved to 3-0 with 1 KO. Although Trizno lost the fight, he made good show all time and will surely offer many entertaining moments in various professional boxing shows around the Europe in future.
In two other fights Latvian Ivars Sedlins upset Finnish Roope Puumalainen in a middleweight bout by taking unanimous decision victory after 6 rounds. After losing the first round, Sedlins, who was over 4 kilograms lighter than Puumalainen, was taking the control of the fight. The fight was very entertaining with many wild change of punches. After the final stanza all three judges were scoring the fight for Latvian boxer who earned a very valuable abroad victory for his record. Sedlins improved to 4-2-2, 2 KO while Puumalainen dropped to 3-1-1, 2 KO.
In a 4-round scheduled cruiserweight bout Caramelito Promotions´ newest member Janne Forsman was floored after one minute boxing with a punch which was hitting partly to his neck. Forsman was immediately up again and was able to hurt his opponent Valerijs Gubins, who was 4-2, 3 KO while entering the ring, with some heavy body punches. After 2 minutes of boxing Forsman hit a heavy right hand punch to Gubins face and Latvian dropped to canvas. TKO 1 victory for Forsman who improved now to 2-0, 1 KO.
Upcoming bouts
On 15th April Caramelito Promotions´ Estonian super middleweight fighter Anton Sjomkin (10-3, 9 KO) will be back on action at Riga, Latvia, after his loss in EBA title fight back in January 2011. The show will be promoted by Riga-based Gladiators-stable.
Caramelito Promotions will be back on promotional action on 28.5. at Kankaanpää, when stable´s undefeated heavyweight star Janne Katajisto (8-0, 3 KO), will be fighting in main event first time over 8 rounds in his pro career. Also a couple of bouts will be on card.
