ASHLEY SEXTON ADDED TO DARREN BARKER UNDERCARD
Posted on | April 4, 2011 | No Comments
Unbeaten flyweight champ to fight in London on April 30
Unbeaten English flyweight champion Ashley Sexton will appear on the undercard of Darren Barker’s European Middleweight title fight against Domenico Spada at London Olympia on April 30.
The 23 year-old stretched his unblemished record to 11 fights on Saturday with a unanimous points victory over Salim Salimov at the Gerry Weber Stadium in Halle, Germany, the tenth win of his career so far.
Sexton’s opponent on the Barker show has yet to be confirmed but the Hertfordshire fighter is keen to put on a good show live on Sky Sports as he aims for another British title shot after a draw with Shinny Bayaar in his last attempt at the belt last May.
“I’m really excited to be boxing on a Matchroom show,” said Sexton. “The atmosphere at their shows is always great and with me being on the undercard to such a great fight the atmosphere is going to be electric! I used to train with Darren back in the amateurs so it’ll be like old times.”
“Flash Ash” turned pro in August 2008 and won four of his first eight fights inside the distance before his first title challenge in his ninth outing. He faced Usman Ahmed for the vacant English belt in Brentwood in January 2010 and claimed his first major title with a devastating first round knockout.
Sexton followed this victory with a challenge to Bayaar’s British title but the judges couldn’t separate the pair after a bloody battle in Dagenham.
Unbeaten Londoner Barker is aiming to reclaim the vacant European strap against the tough Italian, the belt he had to vacate when injury forced him to withdraw from a defence against Matthew Macklin in September.
Tickets for Darren Barker v Domenico Spada on April 30 are available now from Matchroom Sport priced £35 unreserved, £60 ringside, £80 inner ringside and £120 VIP – to buy call Matchroom Sport on 01277 359900.

Graham Earl Announces Double Title London Show Set For May 7th.
Posted on | April 4, 2011 | No Comments
Earlier this year former World Champ, turned promoter, Graham Earl returned to his old stomping ground, York Hall in Bethnal Green, for his inaugural London show. On the 7th May Graham again returns to York Hall with his double title headlined ‘Redemption Day’ event.
Speaking earlier today Graham said, “It’s going to be a cracking fight, a cracking show. We’ve got two Southern Area title fights on it.
We’ve got Leon Williams on it defending his Southern Area title against Danny Couzens and we also have Paul Morby in a rematch against Daniel Cadman, the last one ended in a draw.
We’ve also got on the undercard Terry Holmes, having his third professional fight.
TKO Boxing Gym’s Sam Standing and our new Belfast based signing Mark Ginley will be having their pro-debuts.
Another of our new signings, Michael Grant, will be having his first fight under the Graham Earl promotions banner.
The Belfast Banger, Joe Hillerby , will also be on the show as well as our Emmanuel ‘Manny’ Oshunrinde.
I’m also hoping to be debuting a new heavyweight on the show, should know for sure in a day or so.
It’s looking to be a great show with two cracking title fights and a brilliant undercard, so anyone looking to get tickets should go to the TKO Box Office.”
Tickets for the Graham Earl Promoted ‘Redemption Day’ event at the York Hall, Bethnal Green, London on Saturday 7th May 2011 are now on sale and priced £35 (Unreserved) or £50 (Ringside).

George “BOMBS OUT” Taylor in 8 rounds and wins IBF/USBA Title!
Posted on | April 3, 2011 | No Comments
By: Cestus Press
Last Friday at the UIC Pavilion in Chicago, Illinois, Cestus Management fighter, 168-pound destroyer, Don “DA BOMB” George, dismantled Maxell “General” Taylor winning the IBF/USBA Championship Belt. The contest was scheduled for 12 rounds and was the main event of a 7 fight card. George, is now 22 and 1 with 19 knockout wins, moves one step closer to a world title shot.
George entered the ring and looked fully focused and when the first bell rang came out of the gate all business and immediately took command where he was met by a very live Taylor. Both fighters exchanged shots from the outset, but you could tell that George’s shots where harder and he was the stronger fighter. In the exchanges, George combined boxing with hard shots to the head and body and you could see the pattern of the fight start to take place.
As the fight progressed through rounds 2 to 7 “Da’ Bomb” continually landed a crisp hard double jab, followed by rapid-fire combination’s to the head followed by hellacious body shots that where breaking Taylor down round by round. George, looking in excellent shape was able to keep a frantic pace and stuck to his corners fight plan of backing up Taylor with offensive pressure that completely dominated the very game Taylor.
George came out for the eighth round and exploded all over Taylor and put together a vicious offensive attack and caught Taylor with a three punch combination to the head followed by a booming right hand Bomb to the chin that dropped Taylor for the first time in his career. Taylor got up at the count of 8 and you could see that he was hurt. The crowd went wild and sensed that the end was near as referee Gino Rodriguez took a look at Taylor and asked him to take a step forward and then motioned the fighters together and let the fight continue. The end came in 2:05 of the round as George pinned Taylor on the ropes, where he rained vicious unanswered shots to the head and body promoting referee Gino Rodriguez to stop the carnage of the battered and busted up Taylor, awarding the fight to “DA BOMB” on a technical knockout and the IBF/USBA title in the process.
An ecstatic Donovan had this to say right after his victory, “This is a great feeling for me and I’m so happy that i have fulfilled one of my goals tonight. Winning this title is an awesome thing for me and my team, as everyone has worked really hard for me to get here. Taylor was a real tough guy that knows how to box, but I was the better fighter and i showed that tonight. This was a fantastic night and this win will always be special”.
Gina Iacovou, George’s manager (Cestus CEO) said, “Donovan looked sensational and I’m very proud of his performance here tonight. The people in Chicago have a new IBF/USBA champion and a true world-class contender to support and after tonight we are one step closer to fighting for a world title”.
Mike Michael (Cestus Chief Adviser) said, “Donovan beat a very tough, determined and very capable opponent. Donovan’s performance tonight was electrifying and the way that he beat Taylor showed that he has matured and belongs at the world class level in boxing”.
