PHILADELPHIA (March 31, 2011)—On Friday night, April 15 Wilkes Productions presents “Salute to Philly Boxers” card that will take place at the New Palladium That is located at 229 West Allegheny Ave. in Philadelphia
The card is dubbed “Rumble Night in North Philly”
In the main event, undefeated Featherweight Coy “Pretty Boy” Evans will see action in the six round main event.
Evans of Philadelphia has a record of 10-0-1 with two wins coming by knockout.
Evans has is one of the top prospects in Philadelphia and has been stepping up the competition with each bout. Evans has been fighting opponents with significantly more experience yet Evans has come through with flying colors.
In his last bout, Evans scored a six round unanimous decision over Felipe Almanza (18-19-4) on January 28th in Philadelphia.
Also seeing action is the woman who many consider to be the top pound for pound female fighter in the world in Melissa “Hurracan” Hernandez.
The native of Bronx, NY has a record of 14-2-3 with five knockouts.
Hernandez has faced some of the top female fighters in the world and has captured the WIBA International Super Bantamweight title with a ten round unanimous decision over Lisa Brown (12-2-3)
Hernandez also captured the Global Boxing Union Lightweight title with a majority decision over Layla McCarter (23-12-5)
She added more hardware as she won the WIBA International Lightweight title with a unanimous decision over Victoria Cisneros.
She is coming off a four round stoppage over DJ Morrison on January 20th in Charlotte, NC
Rounding out the six round bouts will be Jr. Welterweight Edgar Santana.
Santana of New York has an impressive mark of 24-3 with fifteen knockouts and was considered one of the top prospects in the Jr. Welterweight division as he won twenty-one of his first twenty-three bouts as he had quality wins over Francisco Campos (20-5-1); Meacher Major (12-2-1).
This will be Santana’s first fight in three years and he is riding a three fight winning streak
In four round bouts, Kaseem Wilson, (12-2-1, 4 KO’s) of Philadelphia; Light Heavyweight Fred Jenkins Jr. (1-0, 1 KO) Heavyweight Mark Ridout (Pro Debut); Marvin Jones (2-0, 2 KO’s) of Tampa, Florida and Jr. Middleweight Glenwood Latimer (Pro Debut) will also see action against opponent to be announced.

Escovedo climbing back up the TPF mountain

Lemoore, Calif. – There’s a fire burning in Cole Escovedo’s stomach like never before.
And the Fresno mixed martial artist looks to raise his stock and have the UFC bosses once again take notice. In March of 2010 it looked like Escovedo (17-6) was well on his way back to the WEC, where he once reigned as champion, following a thrilling knockout of Yoshiro Maeda (28-9-2) in Dream.
But when the call didn’t come, Escovedo defended his Tachi Palace Fights bantamweight strap against rising star Michael McDonald (12-1), who derailed Escovedo’s WEC dreams with a second knockout and inked a Zuffa deal in the following months.
Escovedo followed with a return trip to Japan where Michihiro Omigawa (12-9-1) earned a second-round submission victory over Escovedo.
Since Escovedo has returned to the win column with a triangle victory over another rising prospect Steve Siler (18-9) and will look to make it two in a row on May 6th at the Tachi Palace Hotel and Casino against Bakersfield, Calif.’s Tommy Vargas (7-1).
“I haven’t changed too much up. It’s a normal training camp for me. The one thing, though, that I have done is put a little more emphasis on some strength, not your typical strength and conditioning, but more like grip strength and muscle endurance that’s used when grappling and fighting,” said Escovedo, who can cement his name as a top contender for the vacant Tachi Palace Fights bantamweight crown with a victory.
Vargas, though, is a worthy opponent training now full time out of Millennia in Rancho Cucamonga, Calif. with TPF Flyweight champ Darrell Montague and company.
“I know that Cole has a very good ground game, but I do have a strategy for that,” said Vargas, who made his promotional debut in December 2010 with a decision victory over Martin Sandoval (6-3).
“I’m really not impressed with his takedowns. He kind of just tries to pull you to the ground and even if the fight goes there I really can’t see him tapping me. I don’t get tapped often in the gym and I have some of the best workout partners.”
Escovedo knows what to expect from Vargas, though, too.
“He is a legit wrestler. I’m sure he will try to get a takedown and ride me out, but I could be wrong,” Escovedo said. “I know I will have a good reach on him and I will use that to my advantage. I really can’t commit to moving forward, because that’s where he will get that easy takedown. I will take the center of the cage, though, and make him adjust and frustrate him.”

The main event features a flyweight bout between San Clemente, Calif.’s Ian McCall (9-2) and Franklin, Tenn.’s Dustin Ortiz (7-0). McCall is coming off a decision victory over the previously ranked No. 1 flyweight in the world, Brazil’s Jussier da Silva (9-1) which moved him into the Top 10 rankings at No. 3.
Meanwhile, Ortiz is a Strikeforce veteran and a proven finisher, winning all of his bouts by stoppage.
San Diego, Calif. lightweight Fabricio Camoes (11-5-1) makes his return to Lemoore after his TKO victory over Las Vegas, Nev.’s Steve Lopez (12-4) in February to face Tempe, Ariz.’s Efrain Escudero (15-2) in the co-main event. Like Camoes, Escudero is a UFC veteran and is riding a 2-fight win streak.
The lone title fight on the 13-bout card, features Stockton, Calif. featherweight Isaac DeJesus (9-3) against Fresno, Calif.’s Russ Miura (9-1). The current champ, DeJesus, has lost two straight non-title affairs since winning the belt in February of 2010 with a TKO of Garden Grove, Calif.’s Nam Phan (16-8).
Two other feature fights include UFC veteran Gerald Harris and the World’s No. 2 ranked Flyweight Mamoru Yamaguchi in separate bouts.
The Tulsa, Okla. middleweight, Harris (17-4), has lost two straight bouts and the UFC vet is looking to bounce back against local veteran Coarsegold, Calif.’s Anthony Ruiz (25-15).
Japan’s Yamaguchi (25-5-3) brings his exciting style to the US for just the second time and will take on one of the nation’s most exciting flyweights in Albuquerque, N.M.’s John Dodson (11-5).

Light-Heavyweights II show airs Stateside tonight
As Prizefighter prepares for international fighters to make their debut on the series, we are delighted to announce that the Light-Heavyweights II show features on the FOX Network in America this weekend.
Fuel TV – part of FOX Sports Media Group – will transmit the quarter-finals of the Light-Heavyweights II night in Liverpool from 10pm EST, with the hour-long show repeated four times on Friday (1am and 4.30am) and Saturday (10.30pm and 1.30am). The semi-finals and final will be aired on Friday 8 April.

The Prizefighter Light-Heavyweights II – the 16th edition of Matchroom Sport’s eight man, one night tournaments – was won by Travis Dickinson, who followed in his older brother Jon-Lewis’ footsteps after he took the Prizefighter Cruiserweights II title in April 2010.
Launched in July 2003 Fuel TV showcases an eclectic mix of sports including skateboarding, snowboarding and other extreme sports and is available to over 26 million households in America.
The Prizefighter International Heavyweights show on May 7 from London’s Alexandra Palace with New Jersey’s Kevin ‘Kingpin’ Johnson becoming the first American to take part in the series. Johnson boasts 24 victories and just one defeat, a points loss to Vitali Klitschko in a WBC title challenge in December 2009. The 31 year-old is joined by unbeaten Irish-based Cuban Mike ‘The Rebel’ Perez, who holds ten knockout victories from 13 fights, all inside three rounds, and he is joined by another power-puncher who should revel in Prizefighter’s all-action format.
Big-hitting German Konstantin Airich holds 13 knockouts from 16 wins and is remembered for a crazy fight with Danny Williams in May 2008. Further names are expected to be added early next week as promoters Matchroom Sport promise an explosive night of action with a multi-national flavour.

NEW YORK (April 1, 2011) – Unbeaten Juan Manuel “Juanma’’ Lopez has caught the attention of most everybody in boxing with his exciting, explosive style and unwavering charisma. Following in the footsteps of his countrymen like Puerto Rican superstars Felix Trinidad, Wilfred Benitez and Miguel Cotto, Lopez has been virtually unstoppable as he’s compiled a record of 30-0 with 27 knockouts.
On Saturday, April 16, Lopez, of San Juan, returns to SHOWTIME® to defend his World Boxing Organization (WBO) featherweight title against former International Boxing Federation (IBF) 126-pound belt-holder Orlando “Siri’’ Salido (34-11-2, 22 KOs), of Ciudad Obregon, Mexico, in the main event live on SHOWTIME CHAMPIONSHIP BOXING (10:30 p.m. ET/PT, delayed on the West Coast).
In an excellent co-feature from Ruben Rodriguez Coliseo in Bayamon, Puerto Rico, undefeated Luis Cruz (17-0, 14 KOs), of Philadelphia by way of Las Piedras, Puerto Rico, will take on fellow world-ranked Puerto Rican and former WBO champion Roman “Rocky’’ Martinez (24-1-1, 15 KOs), of Vega Baja, in a 12-round junior lightweight bout. Top Rank, Inc. will promote the doubleheader.
The 27-year-old Lopez, a two-division world champion, is coming off the most significant win of his career, an eighth-round TKO over Mexico’s boxing legend and future Hall of Famer, Rafael Marquez, in a tense give-and-take slugfest last Nov. 6 on SHOWTIME. The victory came in the crowd-pleasing, powerful southpaw’s second title defense and third fight at 126 pounds.
Lopez came away victorious after Marquez, who was vying for a world title in his third weight division, could not answer the bell after the eighth round due to a shoulder injury. Despite a point deduction in the fourth, Lopez was ahead by the scores of 78-73, 77-73 and 77-74.
A five-year pro, Lopez made five successful defenses of the WBO 122-pound title before abandoning the division to challenge WBO 126-pound champion Steven Luevano on Jan. 28, 2010.
If triumphant on April 16, Lopez could be looking at several possible compelling matchups, but he isn’t underestimating the challenger.
“I expect a very tough fight against a strong fighter like Salido, who is a true warrior,’’ Lopez said. “But at the end of the day, I will be victorious and will give my Puerto Rican fans a fight to remember.”
An aggressive power-puncher who has knocked out 90 percent of his opponents, Lopez may not remain at 126 pounds for much longer. He recently stated he intends to move up to 130 pounds after two more fights – the defense against Salido and a possible rematch with Marquez.
“I really feel strong at 126,” Lopez said. “I’m eating well. I’m doing my diet the proper way. I definitely feel better than I did at 122 and I’m much stronger. But I may be moving up after the end of the year.”
Salido dropped defending champion Cristobal Cruz twice en route to winning a resounding decision and the IBF featherweight crown on May 15, 2010, in Ciudad Obregon. A convincing points victory – 117-109 twice and 116-110 – came in a rematch of a fight for the vacant IBF belt won by Cruz via split decision by the scores of 116-112 twice and 113-115 on Oct. 23, 2008, in Spokane, Wash.
In his last start, Salido lost a decision to his WBA counterpart, Yuriorkis Gamboa, in a wild knockdown affair on Sept. 11, 2010, in Las Vegas. Salido dropped Gamboa in the eighth, but went down twice himself in the 12th. At the finish, Gamboa had survived by the scores of 114-109, 115-109 and 116-109.
Salido, who turned pro at the tender age of 16 in March 1996, also went the distance while losing a decision to pound-for-pound mainstay and then-World Boxing Association (WBA)/IBF featherweight kingpin,, Juan Manuel Marquez – Rafael’s brother – in September 2004.
“It’s never easy to fight in a champion’s backyard, but I will give it my all to win and bring the belt back to Mexico,” said Salido, who’ll be making his sixth appearance in a world title fight. “I know one thing, Lopez is a great champion who likes to fight and with my style it should make for a great and exciting fight.”
The 25-year-old, hard-hitting Cruz is ranked No. 11 by the IBF at 130 pounds and has won six in a row by knockout, including a TKO 2 over Wilfredo Acuna in his most recent start last Dec. 4, and 11 of his last 12 inside the distance. Cruz has gone the route only three times since turning professional in March 2007. The furthest he’s gone is 10 rounds.
But Cruz will be getting his sternest challenge to date against Martinez, the WBO’s No. 3-ranked contender whose only setback came in his last start on a close nod to local favorite Ricky Burns in an explosive, hotly contested match on Sept. 4, 2010, in Glasgow, Scotland.
The 28-year-old Martinez scored a knockdown in the first and won the early rounds, but Burns rallied to earn a victory after 36 minutes of gripping action by the scores of 115-113 and 115-112 twice.
Martinez captured the WBO belt in March 2009 with a fourth-round TKO over Nicky Cook in Manchester, England, and made two successful defenses in Puerto Rico. He scored a ninth-round TKO over Feider Viloria in September 2009 and stopped Gonzalo Munguiain the fourth in May 2010.

MCCRORY AND NELSON TO RETURN TO RING IN PRIZEFIGHTER

Sky Sports pundits putting the gloves back on for International Heavyweights
Johnny Nelson and Glenn McCrory will come out of retirement to fly the flag for Britain in the Prizefighter International Heavyweights event at Alexandra Palace on May 7.
The former world champions have both worked as pundits on Sky Sports coverage of Prizefighter but felt it was time to dust of the gloves and get back into action in the 18th edition of Matchroom Sport’s eight-man, one night tournament.
The pair have decided to reclaim the glory days that saw them both claim world title and they see Prizefighter as the quickest route back to the top, taking a leaf out of Robin Reid’s book after he returned for the Super-Middleweights II in Liverpool.
While Nelson has been using the Sky Sports’ Ringside set to get back into shape with the help of new corner man Adam Smith, McCrory has set up camp in Philadelphia where he hopes to replicate Rocky Balboa’s tale and has been working with little known trainer Frank Akers.
“It may be a while since Glenn was in the ring, but the fire is still burning inside him,” said Akers. “Make no mistake – the Gentleman is still in fine shape and there’s no reason why he can’t claim the trophy.”
Tickets for the Alexandra Palace show have been in high demand already with American Kevin ‘Kingpin’ Johnson, unbeaten Irish-based Cuban Mike ‘The Rebel’ Perez and big-hitting German Konstantin Airich in the early line-up for the show – but Nelson and McCrory are keen to keep the coveted trophy in Britain. Promoters Matchroom Sport are delighted that the Brit legends are back and hinted they could open the door for more.
“This could be the start of some of Britain’s greats coming out of retirement,” said Matchroom Sport’s managing director Eddie Hearn. “Age ain’t nothing but a number as they say and after word got out that McCrory and Nelson are coming back, Jim Watt asking when the next Lightweight instalment will be.”
