CHESTER, PA (February 21, 2011)—On Friday night March 18th boxing returns to the Harrahs Casino in Chester, Pennsylvania that will feature some of the Delaware Valley’s top prospects on a card promoted by Joey Eye Boxing along with David Feldman.

“We had a great opening show here at Harrahs”, said promoter Joey Eye.

“We had a few little rough edges that we smoothed out and we believe that we will have some great, fan friendly shows going forward”

In the featured eight round Jr. Welterweight bout will popular “Rockin” Ryan Belasco .

Belasco of Wilmington, Delaware has a record of 14-4-3 with three knockouts and not only takes on anyone but is usually in the most entertaining fight of the night.

Belasco has taken on quality opposition such as Elad Shmuoel (15-1); Brian Miller (1-0-1); Victor Vasquez (7-1); Andrew Farmer (12-1).

His most impressive win was the fifth round stoppage over Vasquez.

Belasco is riding a three fight winning streak which includes his most recent outing when he scored a six round unanimous decision over Gustavo Dailey on December 3rd in Dover, Delaware.

Belasco’s opponent will be named shortly.

There will be two six round co-features.

In the first co-feature will be Jr. Lightweight Anthony Flores.

Flores of Philadelphia has a record of 9-2-1 with six knockouts.

Flores won his first eight bouts with five coming by knockout with included wins over undefeated Ikem Orji and twenty-two fight veteran Carlos Diaz before suffering his first pro defeat to undefeated Victor Valenzuela.

In his last three bouts, Flores has gone 1-1-1 with a draw with world ranked Carlos Vinan, a stoppage over Gustavo Daily and in his last bout, Flores dropped a eight round unanimous decision to undefeated and world ranked Arash Usmanee on October 8th in Philadelphia.

In the second six round co-feature, undefeated Heavyweight Joey Dawejko will take on an opponent to be named.

Dawejko of Philadelphia has a record of 4-0 with one coming by knockout.

The former world amateur champion is coming off a four round unanimous decision on January 22nd at Harrahs in Chester over Taffo Asongwed.

Fighters pitted to see action in four round bouts will be lightweight Angel Ocasio (3-0, 1 KO) of Philadelphia, PA; cruiserweight Taneal Goyco (3-1, 1 KO) of Philadelphia, PA; heavyweight Jamie Campbell (3-1, 2 KO’s) of Ridley Park, PA; lightweight Lonnie Jackson Jr. (1-0) of Philadelphia.

Those fighters will all face opponents to be named.

Two other four round bouts will feature ladies lightweight Elizabeth Sherman (2-0, 1 KO) of South Philadelphia taking on Jennifer Wood (1-1, 1 KO) of Richmond, VA.

Martinez vs. Dzinziruk, Lee vs. McEwan on HBO World Championship Boxing

NEW YORK, NY (Feb. 21, 2011) – Unbeaten Dominican knockout specialist Javier “El Abejon” Fortuna will be fighting for the vacant World Boxing Council (“WBC”) Youth Featherweight Championship on the “Diamond Elite” card, headlined by 2010 Fighter of the Year Sergio “Maravilla” Martinez, March 12 at MGM Grand Arena at Foxwoods in Mashantucket, Connecticut.

Martinez (46-2-2, 25 KOs), the reigning WBC Emeritus and The Ring Magazine middleweight champion, takes on World Boxing Organization (“WBO”) junior middleweight champion Sergiy “Razor” Dzinziruk (37-0, 23 KOs) in the 12-round main event for the vacant WBC Diamond middleweight title.

In the 10-round co-feature showcasing ethnic rivals, “Celtic War” matches exciting middleweights Andy Lee (24-1, 18 KOs) of Ireland and Scotland’s Craig McEwan (19-0, 10 KOs) in a battle with potential world title shot implications for the winner.

Martinez vs. Dzinziruk and Lee vs. McEwan will air live on HBO World Championship Boxing starting at 10:30 PM/ET, 7:30 PM/PT.

The 20-year-old Fortuna (13-0-0-1NC, 10 KOs) faces Derrick Wilson (8-1-2, 2 KOs) in the 8-round, chief off-television bout of the evening. Fortuna is handled by the same advisor-head trainer combination, Sampson Lewkowicz and Gabriel Sarmiento, respectively, as his stable-mate, Martinez.

“Sampson has discovered another gem,” promoter Lou DiBella said. “He’s an amazing judge of talent. Gabriel ranks among the top boxing trainers in the world today. He told me Javier is going to be the next Sergio Martinez and I can see why he feels that way. His last fight left everyone’s jaw dropped.”

In his last fight this past December, the Dominican prodigy knocked-out previously undefeated Victor Valenzuela (8-0) in the opening round of their fight in New York City, marking Fortuna’s U.S. debut.

Past WBC Youth featherweight champions have included current WBC lightweight king Humberto Soto, former WBC featherweight title holder Rudy Lopez, and world title challengers Tommy Browne, Eduardo Escobedo and Billy Dibb.

Group of Elite Puerto Rican Talent Has Big Night

Four of Puerto Rico’s most promising young fighters were victorious on Friday night in Ponce, Puerto Rico, as Jonathan “Mantequilla” Gonzalez, Thomas Dulorme, Jose Pedraza and Luis Orlando del Valle all kept their unbeaten records intact with intimidating displays of power.

Making his junior lightweight pro debut, highly touted former Olympian Jose Pedraza destroyed Felix Manuel Rivera in 1:24 of the first round. Pedraza began his journey to a world championship by overwhelming his opponent in impressive fashion. Despite Rivera’s solid amateur pedigree (he was 86-5), Pedraza’s forceful combinations and thudding body shots quickly had him down and in need of rescue.

The formidable Jonathan “Mantequilla” Gonzalez brought his record to a perfect 12-0 with 12 KOs by stopping West Virginia veteran Chad Greenleaf in the first round. Few 154-lb fighters in the world can withstand Gonzalez’s brutality and Greenleaf was no exception. Precise volleys of cannon fire to the head and body had Greenleaf in need of saving by referee Luis Pabon at 2:49.

Adopted Puerto Rican via the Caribbean welterweight, Thomas “The French” Dulorme (9-0, 8 KOs), needed just two rounds to dismantle opponent Jorge Delgado. A tough Pennsylvanian, Delgado had not been stopped since 2003 before running into Dulorme’s pulverizing fists.

And the newest member of the team, Luis Orlando del Valle, moved to 12-0, 10 KOs by stopping fellow Puerto Rican Irvin Hernandez at 2:49 of round six. Del Valle is the New York State Featherweight Champion and a threat to someday overtake Juan Manuel Lopez as the boxing-rich island’s top featherweight.

Puerto Rico’s Jorge Maysonet Jr (1-0, 1 KO) had his opponent fall out at the last minute and will instead fight next week.

Theophane Wins British Title in Style!!! Ready To Fight World’s Best.

Cestus Management’s 140-to-147 pound world contender, Ashley Theophane, scored a sizzling 12 round unanimous decision victory over British Light-Welterweight Champion, ‘Lightning’ Lenny Daws, in the main event at the world famed Wembley Arena in London England. Theophane displayed superb boxing skills as he constantly kept the very offensive and game Daws off balance with hard jabs and crisp combination punching throughout the fight. The fight was shown live on Sky TV Channel Premier Sports TV and was promoted by Hennessy Sports UK.

Theophane executed a great fight plan throughout the fight and from the opening round Theophane was connecting with over-hand rights that damaged Daws’ right eye which would slowly close over the course of the fight. Throughout the fight and especially in the early rounds Theophane produced a systematic body attack that slowed Daws down and allowed Theophane to get into his rhythm and start to take over the fight.

In the second part of the fight Theophane further took command and was getting stronger where his punches were taking their toll on Daws and busting him up.

In round 9 Theophane came out blazing, mixing his shots to the head and body behind a hard double left jab that set Daws up for a booming right hand that connected to the side of Daws’ head dropping him heavily face first to the canvas. Daws got up, barely beating the referees count and was on shaky legs, the referee let the fight continue and Theophane unleashed a monstrous barrage of punches to the head and body that dropped Daws again. Daws got up and showed the heart of a champion just barely beating the referee’s count; to Daws’ credit he survived the round and was trying to put up a fight.

In the last three rounds it was all Theophane as he completely out-boxed, out-punched and out-fought Daws, deservedly winning a clear cut action packed unanimous decision to capture the coveted Lonsdale British Title. ‘Lightning’ Lenny Daws, who has previously made two successful defenses of the British Title worked hard throughout the fight to hold onto his title but in the end, Theophane just proved to be the better fighter.

The “Treasure” had this to say right after the fight, “I’ll fight any top fighter in the world, I’m ready for any of them. I finally found myself and anyone who wants to step up and fight lets do it tomorrow”. He went on to say, “I hit Lenny (Daws) with some real hard shots and dropped him twice and he still kept coming and never quit, so i want everyone to respect him for staying in the fight. Charles outlasts McDermott in thrilling co-feature

NEWARK, NEW JERSEY (FEBRUARY 19, 2011)—Saturday night at the Essex County Collage in Newark, NJ, Polish heavyweight Mariusz Wach took out Jonathan Haggler in just three rounds to win the WBC Baltic Heavyweight title that highlighted a seven bout card promoted by Prize Fight and Global Boxing.

After a “feel out” first round, Wach landed a big right hand that hurt Haggler. The 6’7” Wach jumped on Haggler and after a big flurry of punches put Haggler on the canvas. Haggler was clearly hurt and could not beat the count of referee Sparkle Lee and the fight was over at 1:22 of round three.

With the win, Wach not only raises he ledger to 24-0 with twelve knockouts but captures his first title in picking up the WBC Baltic crown.

In the co-feature, Osnel Charles won a six round unanimous decision over local favorite Danny McDermott in a lightweight war.
Charles landed pinpoint shots against the hard charging McDermott. McDermott was very aggressive and that played right into Charles as the native of Atlantic City via Haiti landed some hard shots that facilitated many toe to toe exchanges.

McDermott got in some in some solid offense of his own but with the fight in the balance, McDermott was docked a point in round five for a headbutt and in round six Charles opened up a cut along the right eye of McDermott.

Charles won the fight by scores of 59-54; 59-53 and 57-56.

Other winners on the action packed card included: Wanzell Ellison; Rashad Bogar; Eddie Edmonds; Scotty Burrell and Rafael Jastrzebski.

The Maximum Fighting Championship’s official weigh-in for MFC 28: Supremacy is taking a unique twist.

After numerous high-profile weigh-ins at West Edmonton Mall, City Centre Mall, and River Cree Resort and Casino, the MFC has decided to give back to the local community where the fight card is taking place. With that in mind, the official weigh-in for MFC 28 will take place at Kitaskinaw School on the Enoch Cree Nation beginning at 12:30 p.m. MT on Thursday, Feb. 24.

All MFC fans and sponsors along with all friends and teammates of the fighters are invited to attend the event. Take Whitemud Drive West past 215th Street, continue till meeting up with Hwy. 60 and turn left. Take the next left (approx. 1 km) and go past the community centre before reaching the school.

In other results on the televised portion of a STRIKEFORCE Challengers event presented by Rockstar Energy Drink: Carlo “Neo’’ Prater (26-10-1), of Houston, Texas, submitted Bryan Travers (14-3), of San Jose, Calif., with an anaconda choke at 38 seconds in the first round in a catchweight bout at 160 pounds, unbeaten lightweight Ryan Couture (2-0), of Las Vegas, the son of MMA legend Randy Couture, submitted (rear-naked choke) Houston’s Lee Higgins (2-1) at 4:41 in the third round; local favorite Ryan Larson (6-2), of Albuquerque, N.M., submitted (triangle choke) Erik Apple (10-3), of Orange County, Calif., at 3:14 of the second round in a welterweight (170 pounds) skirmish and David “Tarzan’’ Douglas (7-2) of Antioch, Calif., submitted (rear-naked choke) Austin fan favorite Nick “The Ghost’’ Gonzalez (16-9, 1 NC) at 1:05 in the first round.

The victorious Healy (25-18) won by the scores of 29-28 on the three judges’ scorecards while Beerbohm dropped to 15-1.

“He talked a lot of trash, but if he wants a rematch, I’ll give him one anytime,’’ said Healy, who pushed former STRIKEFORCE World Lightweight Champion Josh Thomson to the brink before losing his last start on June 26, 2010, on SHOWTIME.

“Beerbohm fought a good fight but I think I outworked and outhustled him. I’d like to fight the winner of the March 5 fight between Billy Evangelista and Jorge Masvidal.’’

A member of Team Quest, Healy has won four of his last five fights and seven of nine. In a 10-year career, he’s defeated several big-name, quality opponents including Paul “Semtex’’ Daley, Carlos Condit and Dan Hardy.

Beerbohm, who not only suffered his first pro defeat but first ever in Mixed Martial Arts – he was 8-0 as an amateur — felt he’d done enough to get his hand raised.

“I definitely thought I won,’’ he said. “I thought going into the third we’d each won a round, but I definitely thought I won that last round. I took the fight to him from the start. But that’s what happens when you let it go to the hands of the judges.’’

The quick victory ended a two-fight losing streak for Prater, who’d also dropped four out of five. He used his Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu to take down Travers, and moments later it was over.

“My record shows I’m not a perfect fighter, but when you’re down you get up,’’ Prater said. “This was a good win, I’ll get better off this fight, but I’ll be right back in the gym soon.’’

Travers had won seven of eight going in. A six-fight winning streak was snapped when he lost a decision to Healy on STRIKEFORCE Challengers on May 21, 2010, in Portland, Ore., on SHOWTIME.

Couture, who turned pro for STRIKEFORCE on Aug. 13, 2010, is one of the most promising prospects in MMA, but he had to work to get the victory against a game Higgins.

“It felt good to be in there,’’ Couture said, “but the guy was tough as nails. I’m real glad I was able to get him there at the end. For the most part I was happy with my standup and getting almost 15 minutes in there was good.’’

In a battle of wrestlers, the well-conditioned Larson controlled the action from the outset against Apple, who was competing for the first time since Nov. 20, 2009.

“I think the key was to come out fast and dictate the pace,’’ said Larson, a member of Relson Gracie Jiu-Jitsu Austin. “It’s like a dream come true to fight for STRIKEFORCE and to win in my hometown.’’

Tarzan, a member of Cesar Gracie Jiu-Jitsu, dominated en route to winning his seventh fight inside the distance. The Ghostbuster, Douglas was the aggressor from the outset. He dropped Gonzalez with an overhand right followed by a left hook at about the 0:35 mark. He continued the punishment until the referee stopped matters.

“I wanted to show my Jiu-Jitsu skills,’’ said Douglas after outclassing the more experienced, local fan favorite. “Everyone says they never see my Jiu-Jitsu so I wanted to showcase them to the crowd. I do what they tell me. I’ll fight anybody. I feel most comfortable at 155 pounds. When I’m healthy, no one can beat me.’’

In Friday’s non-televised bouts, Aaron Lan Franco (2-0), of Austin, TKO 1 (punches, 4:22) over Thomas Diagne (1-3), of San Jose, at 155 pounds and in an all-Austin affair, Drew Pendleton (3-0) submitted (guillotine choke) Dennis Dombrow (2-1) at 2:38 of the second round at 145 pounds.
