Reno — Let’s Get It On Promotions is pleased to announce the signing of super-featherweight prospect, “Lightning” Lonnie Smith (12-2-2, 9 KOs) to an exclusive promotional agreement.

Smith, of Las Vegas, is coming off an explosive first round knockout of Jose Gomez January 7th. Lonnie, who also goes by “Lonnie Love” and “El Negro Mexicano” is known for his non-stop, action packed fighting style. His bouts are often, if not usually, given “Fight of the Night” awards. The heart and passion that Smith displays while fighting, are matched by his charisma and good character out of the ring.

“Lonnie is the type of fighter I would pay to see fight.” Says Let’s Get It On Promotions’ Tommy Lane. “Whether it is live, or on television, boxing and sports fans will fall in love with Lonnie Smith. He is very involved in the community, works with less-fortunate youth, and runs his own turkey drive during thanksgiving. But in the ring, he fights his butt off! I can’t wait until he fights on TV.”

Smith is no stranger to Let’s Get It On Promotions’ shows, having appeared on three of them since 2009. He currently trains with Skipper Kelp.

Says Smith, “My fighting style is an immaculate conception between Christie Martin and “Marvelous” Marvin Hagler. Hard fighting is what you see three minutes of every round.”

When asked why the comparison to Christie Martin, Smith responded, “She nearly got stabbed to death and is fighting a few months later! That’s a true fighter’s spirit!”

Smith’s next fight is being scheduled for Spring.

Polish Boxers Kamil Laszczyk and Rafael Jastrzebski added to “Brick City Brawl”

NEWARK, NJ (February 7, 2011) – Polish boxers Kamil Laszczyk and Rafael Jastrzebski have been added to “Brick City Brawl” on February 19 at Essex County College, which will be promoted by Prize Fight and Global Boxing Promotions.

The main event will feature undefeated heavyweight Mariusz Wach (23-0, 11 KO) of Krakow, Poland against Jonathan Haggler (23-3, 18 KO) of Winston-Salem, North Carolina for the vacant WBC Baltic heavyweight championship on FoxSports.

Laszczyk, 19, is from Wroclaw, Poland and won six national championships back home during a 110-7 amateur career. Laszczyk was training previously with Polish super middleweight champion Piotr Wilczewski but will now work with Aroz “Terrific” Gist.

Making his pro debut, Laszczyk is the first product of the Global Boxing Foundation, which brings young amateur boxers from Poland to America to help them achieve their boxing dreams. As a featherweight, Laszczyk needed all the help he could get.

“There is a very limited market for smaller weight fighters in Europe,” says Mariusz Kolodziej, President of Global Boxing Promotions. “In the next couple of months, we want to adjust him to the American style of boxing and match him with the right fights to make him a world-class professional.”

Jastrzebski, 29, of Bydgoszcz, Poland competes in the super-middleweight division. His record of 3-6-1 (1 KO) is deceiving, as he was the victim of flagrant mismanagement early in his career. Often times the naive Jastrzebski was placed in cruiserweight (200 pounds) matches to build up the records of others, where he was outweighed by 10 pounds or more.

Now based in Atlantic City, NJ and trained by Bill Johnson and conditioning coach Sean Sutton, Jastrzebski is getting a second chance.

“I’m willing to give him another chance in life because he was misrepresented in his career,” says Kolodziej. “It’s more than just sports or money, this is his life. He came to America to be a champion and we want to give him every chance. I see great potential in him.”

Since teaming up with countryman and unbeaten middleweight Przemek “Patrick” Majewski, Jastrzebski is 3-0 with 1 knockout.

Both men will compete in four round bouts against opponents to be named later.

El Paso’s undefeated David Rodriguez continues his assault on the heavyweight division on FRIDAY, FEB. 11, 2011, when the powerful assassin meets Ty Cobb at the Don Haskins Center in the most important battle of “Nino’s” career.

For Rodriguez, 33-0 (31 knockouts), training is winding down as the focus and intensity revs up. The Coronado High School graduate has incrementally removed all of the possible distractions from his life as Friday Fight Night approaches.

D-Rod has even shut down his social networking capabilities.

“I’m signing off of Facebook until after the fight,” Rodriguez wrote on his status bar early this week. “Thank you for all of the support. I will see everybody on Friday, Feb. 11.”

NEW YORK (Feb. 3, 2011) – One of boxing’s best and brightest young prospects will get a chance to show if he’s worthy of a world title shot in 2011 when undefeated and World Boxing Association (WBA) No.-1 ranked super bantamweight Rico Ramos takes on former world title challenger Alejandro Valdez on Friday, Feb. 11, LIVE on ShoBox: the New Generation on SHOWTIME (11 p.m. ET/PT, delayed on the West coast).

In the co-feature, a pair of super middleweight prospects will tangle as unbeaten rising knockout artist Cornelius White (16-0, 15 KOs), of Houston, faces Chicago’s Don George (20-1-1, 17 KOs) in a 10-round affair from Bally’s Grand Ballroom in Atlantic City, N.J.

Ramos, of Los Angeles, will look to keep his perfect 18-0 (10 KOs) record in tact when he faces Valdez (24-4-2, 17 KOs), of Ciudad Obregon, Mexico, in a 10-round 122-pound main event. Both Ramos and White are both represented by the show’s promoter Goossen Tutor Promotions.

“This is it. This is my time to shine,” said Ramos, who hails from Pico Rivera, CA is currently training out of Hawthorne, Calif., under the guidance of head coach Darnell Walker. “This is going to be a real step up for me. I know Alejandro plans to bring it on Feb. 11 but there is no way he stands in my way of a world title shot.”

Added Walker: “The intensity is up, you can just feel it. I just think because Rico knows he’s so close to a world title shot the focus has changed. He wants to be the next superstar of boxing and knows he’s a main event guy now.”

Ramos has shown flashes of brilliance and dominance and displays flat-out raw power. In his last fight he recorded a knockout worthy of a “Best of 2010” clip with a second-round one-punch annihilation of Heriberto Ruiz on Nov. 8, 2010. “Yeah, people are still talking about that one,” Ramos said. “It’s been all over Facebook and Twitter. A lot of people were shocked by it. A lot of people had me losing that fight.”

Ramos began boxing when he was just 8 years old at South LA’s Broadway Boxing Gym. A strong amateur (97-17), Ramos competed in the national Golden Gloves championships and won a Silver Glove and PAL title. In 2007 he was a runner-up at the U.S. National Championships, losing to U.S. Olympian Raynell Williams.

Ramos made his professional debut in March of 2008 by winning a four-round shutout decision over Sammy Yniguez in San Jose, Calif.

The southpaw Valdez, 27, has lost two title shots, one coming in 2008 and the other in 2009. He was knocked out in the second round by then-bantamweight titlist Hozumi Hasegawa in 2008 and suffered
an 11th-round knockout loss to Nehomar Cermeño in a 2009 interim title bout. Valdez owns a technical

draw against bantamweight titlist Fernando Montiel in a 2009 nontitle fight. The referee, despite video replays showing differently, ruled a cut to Montiel was caused by a head butt rather than a punch.

He won his last two fights in Mexico, the only two he had in 2010. “It is great to get this fight to get me back on the map,” Valdez said. “I have tasted what it’s like to fight on boxing’s biggest stage. That experience will lead me to victory.”

On his opponent, Valdez said Ramos has good speed but is somewhat untested. “We want to test his chin. We want to be the first to give him a loss,” Valdez said.

The co-feature will pit “Da Beast” (White) fighting “Da Bomb” George, who was upset in his last fight by technical decision to Francisco Sierra. Prior to that, ShoBox fans remember George winning a unanimous decision over Osumanu Adama.

White, 29, is a native of Houston, Texas, and has knocked out all but one opponent. Newly signed by Goossen Tutor and TNT Productions, White is currently training at trainer Bobby Benton’s Houston gym and sparring with ShoBox alum Marcus Johnson.

White is looking to continue his knockout streak of 13 straight. The only time he didn’t register a KO during his career is when he got the decision over Larry Pryor back in 2008 in just his third professional fight.

Besides his last fight in Oakland, White has only fought in Texas and Arkansas.

“Ever since I’ve been with Dan Goossen he’s come through and gotten me the fights,” White said. “Now I’m on SHOWTIME and I can show the world what I have. One year from now I will be ready to fight for a world title.”

On his knockout streak, White commented: “It’s not like I’m trying to knock out guys, it just works out that way. I know if I train hard and I work hard then the knockouts will come.

“The super middleweights get a lot of attention on SHOWTIME. I’m in no rush. The fans will see a lot of action. George is a strong guy, but I’m coming. I’m not coming to play or to hug. I’m coming with my hands up. One of us is going to get knocked out and it won’t be me.”

The 26-year-old George last appeared on ShoBox on April 30, 2010, in his hometown of Chicago, Ill.

George is hoping to display his patented back flip he does in the ring after every win. “I’m going to do whatever I can to get people to remember and recognize me,” he said. “Training has been great and I just feel really confident.”

George was the 2001, 2002 and 2003 Chicago Golden Gloves amateur champion at 147, 178 and 165 pounds, respectively. George suffered his first loss on July 30, 2010, when he lost to Sierra by decision after seven rounds.

George was inactive for one year and nine months from August, 2007 to May, 2009.

Conquest, El Maachi & McAleese Co-Headline ESSEX ERUPTION Super Show On 19th March

‘ESSEX ERUPTION’, the second of the two-event extravaganza during March to celebrate Steve Goodwin’s first anniversary as a promoter, sees Romford Cruiserweight prospect Tony ‘Conqueror’ Conquest, International Masters Light Middleweight Champion Yassine ‘The Showman’ El Maachi and Newmarket’s ‘Phat’ Pat McAleese co-headline the mega show at the Goresbrook Leisure Centre in Dagenham, Essex on Saturday 19th March 2011.

Since turning pro, in September ‘09, Conquest has convincingly won all five of his fights. However it was his last outing, against the highly experienced battler Hastings Rasani, that Conquest showed his true potential.

Right from the start Conquest oozed confidence and made easy work of controlling the fight. As Conquest showcased his range of combinations Rasani just stood his ground, seemingly content to bide his time.

Conquest was savvy, using sharp attacks and swift movement to prevent Rasani being able to mount any sustained attacks of his own. After six rounds Conquest was rightfully declared the winner by a clear 60-54 points margin.

International Masters Light Middleweight Champion Yassine El Maachi gets his first outing of 2011, in a non-championship warm up bout, against a yet to be named opponent. El Maachi is hoping to secure a place in the upcoming Sky Televised Prizefighter series in May.

El Maachi, the current International Master Light Middleweight Champion, successfully defended his title against European #4 ranked Jimmy Colas at Steve Goodwin’s magnificent ‘Judgement Day’ event back in December.

To describe Yassine’s performance as exceptional would be an understatement, awe inspiring may be a better statement but still wouldn’t get across just how slick, classy and totally dominating his performance over the former EBU-EU, and current WBC Latino Light Middleweight champion was.

From the first bell El Maachi teased and frustrated Colas with his unorthodox attacks. Time after time El Maachi would trip the light fantastic before letting rip with a flurry of punches, leaving Colas lashing out at his shadow.

Throughout the contest El Maachi picked off Colas at ease, with wickedly fast uppercuts and combinations, before sashaying away before the hapless Colas could even respond.

As the fight progressed El Maachi stepped the pace up and often showboated as the baying crowd chanted ‘Yassine, Yassine, Yassine’. In round eight El Maachi let rip a scintillatingly fast and vicious right-left combination that rocked Colas to the core, however before El Maachi could finish Colas off the bell rang to end the round.

El Maachi shifted to an even higher gear for the final two rounds, in doing so he put on one helluva show and picking off Colas with exquisite uppercuts, right crosses and blisteringly fast combinations. A knockout finish looked to be on the cards but in the end Colas showed his durability by surviving the constant onslaught. Referee Jeff Hinds scored the bout a resounding 98-92 to Yassine El Maachi.

Newmarket’s Light Middleweight prospect ‘Phat’ Pat McAleese makes his welcome return to the ring, after suffering his first loss against Lee ‘Lightning’ Noble at Steve Goodwin’s superb ‘It’s Personal’ event in September.

For almost nine rounds McAleese not just outworked Noble, he plain dominated him. Noble’s work rate was exceptionally poor, he seemed content to cover up and absorb the constant barrage of punches, only occasionally responding with the odd jab or flurry here and there.

In the dying seconds of the ninth round Noble let rip with a peach of a right uppercut. It was a near perfect shot and dropped McAleese on the spot. Up until that fateful moment McAleese had been winning the round, as he had done the eight that preceded it.

On the 19th March McAleese will be facing another tough battle as his opponent will be Germany’s # 26 ranked Marcen Gierke, who is a three time German title challenger.

McAleese will be determined to make a statement on his return as he has already being hinting at a trilogy fight with Noble in the very near future.

Explosive all action fighters seem to be the standard at Steve Goodwin promoted shows and as such it comes as no surprise that supporting the headlining trio is a ten bout undercard featuring some of the most exciting local young fighters looking to make their mark in 2011.

Woodford Green’s unbeaten Light Middleweight Michael ‘The Zambezi Hitman’ Norgrove gets his fifth outing, against the seriously tough Czech Jan Balog.

Pat McAleese’s Ultrachem TKO team mate Daniel ‘Hurricane’ Herdman, from Stevenage, is set to face Halesowen hardman Kevin McCauley.

Another of the young prospects from Johnny Eames’ TKO stable, Carshalton’s ‘Pretty’ Ricky Boylan, gets his third outing against Nuneaton bruiser Kristian Laight.

In addition Romford Light Heavyweight Billy Slate, unbeaten Belvedere Featherweight ‘Saint’ George Jupp, Biggleswade Light Middleweight Jamie Boness, Rainham Super Featherweight Richard Hines and more will be in action against yet to be named opponents.

Hatley, Chatman Trade Knockdowns En Route To Draw

The ESPN Friday Night Fights televised opener saw upset specialist Chris Chatman overcome an opening round knockdown to score one of his own late in the fight to earn a majority draw with unbeaten Dallas native Charles Hatley.

Scores were 75-75 twice and a suspension-worthy tally of 77-73 for Hatley from the third judge.

Things couldn’t have begun better for the hometown kid, unloading with a series of head shots that sent Chatman tumbling to the canvas less than a minute into the contest. Hatley didn’t let up on the pressure, continuing with power shots as Chatman spent the rest of the round regaining his legs and composure.

The second round reached a point where it was questioned whether or not Hatley punched himself out. Chatman carried the action for most of the round, while Hatley seemed befuddled by his opponent’s newfound aggression.

Chatman switched back and forth between conventional and southpaw stance in an attempt to disrupt Hatley’s rhythm. The strategy produced mixed results in a competitive third round that saw Chatman score to the body, but also briefly wobbled by Hatley midway through the round.

The next couple of rounds featured the same back and forth shifts in momentum, though not quite as action-packed as what was offered earlier in the fight.

Hatley focused more on boxing, dancing on the outside and attempting to catch Chatman coming in. Chatman effectively bobbed and weaved his way out of trouble, but rarely landed more than one punch at a time in return.

Fatigue began to set in for both fighters as things grew a bit ugly heading down the stretch. Chatman controlled the real estate in the seventh, cutting off the ring and forcing Hatley to fight in reverse. Neither fighter was scoring with very much, though Chatman managed to connect with an uppercut and a pair of left hands in the closing moments of the round.

The final round became a race against the clock for Hatley, who was running on empty while Chatman cleaned out the kitchen in his greatest effort to score yet another upset. The San Diego resident provided the locals with a nail-biting moment late in the fight, scoring a knockdown with just over a minute to go.

Hatley collected himself and did his best to stay out of harm’s way for the remainder of the fight, and even appeared to score a late knockdown of his own, though it went unnoticed and thus uncredited by the referee.

The turn of events in the final round bailed out the judges, as Chatman would’ve otherwise lost a fight in which he seemed to be in control for the majority of the night.

Instead, he earned a 10-8 score on all three cards in the final round that resulted in a draw verdict, one that had Hatley storming out of the ring mere seconds after it was announced.

It’s not a loss, but Hatley for the first time in his pro career fails to end a fight with his arm raised in victory. The former amateur standout is now 14-0-1 (11KO), having now struggled in his past two fights. His previous ring appearance saw him suffer the first knockdown of his career at the hands of career steppingstone Emanuel Augustus.

Chatman accepted this fight on less than three weeks notice after being forced upon Hatley as the opponent of choice. The risk proved to be well worth the reward. His record now stands at 9-1-1 (4KO), though chances are he lands another TV fight in the near future.

The bout was Chatman’s sixth against a previously unbeaten opponent, his record now 4-1-1 in such fights. His lone loss came against Demetrius Andrade – Hatley’s old amateur rival who went on to serve on the 2008 U.S. Olympic boxing squad.

Local junior bantamweight Ray Ximenez, Jr. (2-0, 0KO) enjoyed airtime in a televised swing bout, taking care of Houston journeyman Alfredo Berto (1-4, 0KO) en route to a lopsided four-round decision. Scores were 40-36 across the board.
