Marshall vs. Uscola to headline Tachi Palace Fights’ “High Stakes”

Lemoore, Calif. – Tachi Palace Fights returns to action on Thursday, September 9 with a night full of “High Stakes” action, as local legend Doug Marshall of Visalia, Calif. fights in the main event against Sacramento, Calif.’s Kyacey Uscola.

Marshall (12-3) puts a 5-fight win streak on the line against Uscola (18-15). Marshall is currently unbeaten in the middleweight division. Meanwhile, Uscola is coming of a stint on Spike TV’s “The Ultimate Fighter” show.

“When ever you put Doug Marshall on a card in the Central Valley it’s bound to be a sellout,” said Tachi Palace Fights matchmaker Richard Goodman. “This is also another one of those deep fight cards for us with lots of big names as well as lots of local up-and-coming talent.

In the co-main event, Huntington Beach, Calif. lightweight “Razor” Rob McCullough (18-6) is back in action against Ultimate Fighting Championship veteran Corey Hill (4-3) of Brooksville, Fla.

Tachi Palace Fights will crown its first-ever middleweight champ, as Coarsegold, Calif.’s Anthony Ruiz (25-13) clashes with Oakland, Calif.’s Leopoldo Serao (16-7).
Also on the card in a featherweight special attraction, Athens Ga.’s Micah Miller (14-4) battles Atlanta, Ga.’s Diego Saraiva (18-9-1).

-Hanford, Calif. flyweight Luis Gonzalez (2-2) vs. Chino, Calif.’s Darrell Montague (7-1).

Title fight featured at MFC 26: New-attitude McKee to defend LW belt; three more bouts added

Four main-card fights including a world title fight have been secured to heighten the already talent-laden lineup for MFC 26: Retribution.

The event, which will be held in Westman Place at the Keystone Centre in Brandon, Manitoba, Canada, and air live on HDNet Fights, features a co-main event pitting MFC lightweight champion Antonio “Mandingo” McKee (24-3-2) against Brazilian jiu-jitsu specialist Luciano Azevedo (16-8). The savvy veteran McKee has not lost since 2003 but has garnered a reputation for dragging fights out. With a new aggressive mindset, McKee has declared he will retire from mixed martial arts if Azevedo lasts five rounds against him in a quest for the 155-pound championship belt.

“I’ve said before that I will fight differently but I was still cautious. Not anymore. I am going to destroy Azevedo … I will mess him up. If it goes to a decision, I will leave my gloves in the ring and walk away,” touted McKee, who trains out of Lakewood, California.

Azevedo, a native of Rio de Janeiro, is an accomplished competitor, and the only fighter to earn a victory over world-renowned featherweight kingpin Jose Aldo. When the two met in 2005, Azevedo scored a rear-naked choke victory – a crowning achievement for the 26-year-old who just four months later would go on to defeat reputed striker Din Thomas. Azevedo, who will be making his debut on North American soil at MFC 26, has won six of his last eight fights and holds 12 submission victories in his career.

Two spectacular middleweights will also see action at MFC 26 as brash British star Tom “Kong” Watson (12-3) clashes with former reality show standout Jesse “JT Money” Taylor (15-6).

Watson is an extremely gifted striker who flashed his wares in his organizational debut, scoring a first-round, head-kick knockout over Travis Galbraith at MFC 24 back in December. The Southampton, England, native has won eight straight fights and will be well-prepared for encounter with Taylor as he trains alongside Georges St. Pierre in Montreal.

Taylor, meanwhile, will be looking to get on a winning streak of his own, having won two of his last three. The Murrieta, California, product earned victories over Jason Day and veteran Murilo Bustamante in recent bouts, but sandwiched in between was a first-round submission defeat at the hands of Thales Leites in the main event of MFC 25 this past May.

In a light heavyweight battle, rugged sluggers Dwayne Lewis and Wilson Gouveia will meet in a pivotal matchup to see who remains in the mix of the MFC’s 205-pound division. Lewis (11-5) had a seven-fight win streak snapped at MFC 25 when he dropped a three-round decision to former MFC light heavyweight champ Emanuel Newton. But the Fort McMurray, Alberta, product has shown plenty of resiliency throughout his career, and knockout power as well, having finished off five opponents during that winning streak including rival heavy-hitter Marvin Eastman.

Gouveia (12-8), the American Top Team representative from Fort Lauderdale, Florida, also is in dire need of win as he too was beaten at MFC 25, dropping a one-sided decision to Ryan Jimmo. The native Brazilian does have an impressive list of beaten foes on his resume including Jon Fitch, Jason MacDonald, Jason Lambert, and Seth Petruzelli.

The live televised card on HDNet will kick off with a showdown between two tough-minded rivals as “King” Solomon Hutcherson takes on David Heath. A native of Milwaukee, Wisconsin, Hutcherson (11-6) is another reality show standout who is looking to squarely solidify his position in the MFC’s middleweight ranks. Heath (15-6), who will be making his debut at 185 pounds, has collided with numerous big names in the light heavyweight ranks, and the Tulsa, Oklahoma, resident was part of the MFC’s 2009 Fight of the Year.

Two more main-card bouts including the other half of the co-main event for MFC 26 will be announced shortly.

Mexico’s Number One Fighter Is Greeted By Throngs of Fans Before Heading to Las Vegas to Face Juan “Baby Bull” Diaz on July 31 in “Fight of the Year: The Rematch”

Los Angeles, CA (July 25)…Hundreds of fans braved the heat at the famed Placita Olvera today to cheer on Juan Manuel “Dinamita” Marquez before he heads to Las Vegas to face Juan “Baby Bull” Diaz in “Fight of the Year: The Rematch” on July 31 at the Mandalay Bay Events Center live on HBO Pay-Per-View®. On July 30, 2010 , Cestus Management’s 147-pound contender Ashley Theophane headlines a major fight card that will be televised on ESPN’s FNF boxing series. The event will be live from the Buffalo Run Casino in Miami , Oklahoma .

Theophane, who is a veteran of 31 fights, will take on perennial contender Devlin Rodriguez in a bout scheduled for 10 rounds. It is a fight that pits both veterans at the crossroads in their career.

Coaches training added to this year’s GLEASON’S GYM Fantasy Boxing Camp

Coaches training added to this year’s Fantasy Boxing Camp

A training clinic for personal trainers and boxing trainers has been added to the Fantasy Boxing Camp.

On Saturday afternoon, August 21,2010, from 2:00 PM to 5:00 PM, our Hall of Fame trainers and staff will work with boxing trainers from around the World. We will answer all questions about training and give instruction in how to train your clients.

The training will be followed by dinner, a boxing show and a Cocktail party. You can drive home or book a room for an overnight stay.

Please call the gym or email the gym as soon as possible if you are interested in the Coaches training. There is a special rate for the training clinic.

The Fantasy Boxing Camp is in August this year instead of September. The date is August 19 through August 22, 2010.

As usual it will be a full house, so please register as early as possible. We have to order the clothing, equipment, trophies and plaques. We also have to get our rooms reserved. The camp falls in the middle of the resorts busy season.

A $500 deposit will secure a place at camp for you. The balance will be due by August 15th.

THE NEW ZUFFA MYTH: THE UFC’S INFLATED $1 BILLION VALUE IS BUNK

IIIIIIIIt’s time….. to get real when it comes to the Royal Family of the UFC. and expose some of the misleading stories circulating about the value of the UFC being over $1 billion. This billion dollar price tag is pure speculation. The perpetuation of this figure in the media has been hard to track to a primary source, but I blamed Forbes Magazine first:

” It was the latest fightfest staged by Ultimate Fighting Championship, a Las Vegas company that started as a smutlike fight club that’s now worth maybe $1 billion and is drawing competitors like flies to blood.”

Take a gander at that M word before the $1 billion. Somehow from this article, the $1 billion figure grew legs and stuck. For more than two years people have been treating it like gospel as if the value and assets of the UFC are officially worth $1 billion. The Forbes piece’s price is often repeated and referred to as the main reason for other news sources accepting the valuation.

CNBC, a station not necessarily known for winning Pulitzer Prizes, had this segment on this past January where the host uses a “let’s just make it up” figure of $1.25 billion.

Listen for Dana when he says the UFC is worth whatever anyone is willing to pay for it. Listen for Lorenzo Fertitta dismiss the idea the company is in massive debt. There’s been nearly $500 million of those financial instruments taken out already on the face value of the UFC. Lorenzo disputes the debt total only because some of that debt is being paid down by the UFC’s revenue. Maybe he likes to call it by the catchy “bank facility” term to confuse people into thinking it’s not really debt, but that doesn’t change the fact that it exists.

It took two years for that first Forbes piece to actually produce any kind of sale, and even then it was only for a small percentage in the company. MMA Payout printed the details of the sale, including an article quoting the Forbes piece as estimating the billion dollar figure.

Leave it to all the experts at Yahoo’s AssociatedContent.com to change my mind about Forbes. This article claims the UFC bought PRIDE for about 80 million dollars in addition to carrying the headline that the UFC is worth “Over One Billion Dollars.” Some Yahoo under the profile Brian Y might be the first person on record to use the billion dollar figure considering the post was published Published 7/31/2007. So he got the PRIDE PRICE WRONG and the billion dollar price tag might even be his invention.

The fact is, anyone who would outright buy the UFC would be assuming a whole lot of debt, whatever the real debt figure is. With the economy still “uncertain” in the eyes of the experts, that billion dollar price tag should be going down, but the folks at CNBC just jacked it up when the Abu Dhabi deal went through. All of this is based on nothing, no financial projections or actual figures, just speculation and supposed offers that never actually materialized. This is the world of MMA journalism we live in when so few writers question the so-called facts spouted by big media like Forbes and CNBC. Don’t believe the Hype. If you think the UFC is really, honestly worth a billion dollars, maybe you went to the Dr. Evil school of accounting:
