Prize Fight Promotions will put on a five bout card that will be headlined by a terrific Lightweight encounter between Ty Barnett and Tyrese Hendrix, from Fitzgerald’s Casino and Hotel. Barnett of Washington, D.C., will risk his impressive ledger of 17-1-1 with twelve knockouts against Hendrix of Gainesville, GA who is looking to rebound from his first professional loss and is now 18-1-1 with seven knockouts.

Barnett was 16-0-1 in his first seventeen bouts as he defeated the likes of former world title challenger John Brown, Pavel Miranda (15-1); Jose Leonardo Cruz (12-3-2); Johnnie Edwards (14-2-1) before being shocked by being stopped by Juan Santiago in one round. Barnett rebounded in his last bout by scoring a seventh round stoppage over the durable Braderick Antoine on April 16th. Hendrix has a very similar resume. After a draw in his first bout, he went on to win eighteen in a row which included wins over capable veterans such as Moises Pedroza (25-11-1); former world title challenger Luis Bolano (41-10) and Robbie Cannon (12-3-1) before losing for the first time to then undefeated Hank Lundy on April 16th in a bout that was televised on ESPN 2.

An outstanding undercard has been assembled of several undefeated Prospects: 6 Rounds Jr. Middleweights Mario Mina (5-0, 3 KOs) vs. Tim Connors (9-1, 7 KOs) 6 Rounds Light Heavyweights Donta Woods (7-0, 6 KOs) vs. Terry Porter (16-24-3, 9 KOs) 4 Rounds Jr. Middleweights Taureano Johnson (3-0, 3 KOs) vs Roy Ashworth (5-9, 1 KO) 4 Rounds Jr. Welterweights Rohan Wilson (4-2-1, 1 KO) vs. Keuntray Wilson (PD).

Hall vs Power

Sat Jul 24 12:30PM ET

Click on the poster at left to watch this event on GoFightLive!

Stuart Hall will battle Martin Power for the British Bantamweight title in a rematch of a great fight that occurred just ten months ago.

In the first fight, Hall came back to stop Power in eight rounds, despite suffering a cut on his head in the very first round. Hall has a record of 8-0-1 with four knockouts and won the British title with an eighth round stoppage over the much more experienced Ian Napa on June 4th.

Power has a record of 21-5 with nine knockouts and is a former British Bantamweight champion himself. Power won his first sixteen fights before winning the British crown with a twelve round unanimous decision over Dale Robinson (17-1) on May 20, 2005. Power defended the belt twice, including a win over Napa before stepping up and being stopped in nine by Tshifhiwa Munyai for the vacant Commonwealth title. Seven months later, Munyai stopped Power in four in the rematch.

Despite the losses, Power still had British title but that was short lived as Napa came back to take a twelve round unanimous decision to claim the British title. After losing to Hall, Power won his last bout when he stopped Matthew Edmonds (10-3) on December 11th in five rounds.

In the ten round co-feature, Dean Harrison will battle Nigel Wright for the vacant English Jr. Welterweight title. Harrison has a record of 16-3 with five knockouts and will be fighting for the fourth time with a belt on the line. This past March 14th, Harrison captured the Midlands Jr. Welterweight title with a first round knockout over Ben Lawler. Wright has a record of 21-6 with nine knockouts. He is no stranger to championship fights himself as this will be his ninth fight for a belt. After going 12-1 in his first thirteen bouts, Wright won the English Light Welterweight title with a seventh round stoppage over Dean Hickman in 2005. He reclaimed the English Light Welterweight title with decision over Gary Reid and retained it with a draw with Daws in the rematch. In his last bout, Wright scored an eight round decision over former world champion, Alex Arthur (27-2) on December 5th in New Castle.

Another exciting bout featuring 2008 Olympic Bronze Medal winner, Tony Jeffries (8-0, 5 KOs) will battle Michael Banbula (10-25-3) in a Light Heavyweight bout scheduled for eight rounds.

QUOTES:

SHANE DEL ROSARIO:
“Training went well. I’ve been off for a while trying to make fights, but things kept falling through. It’s good to be back in here.

“He’s got a big hand and a tough chin. It’s going to be a hard fight, that’s for sure. I’m going to keep my hands up and do my thing.

“The plan is to move up to the big show. It’s cool that all my hard work is finally paying off. I just have to fight a smart fight tomorrow and hopefully move up to the big show with a win.”

LOLOHEA MAHE:
“Camp went well. I feel very prepared. I spent three weeks training in California, really just working on my cardio.

“As for the outcome, I know I’m prepared for whatever and I can go the distance, but you can expect me to finish it fast.”

SARAH KAUFMAN:
“Training couldn’t have gone any better. I had partners in my camp that were all preparing for fights, so it made it more fun and challenging.

“I’m expecting Roxy to bring a fight. I don’t think she’s going to back down, but I do think she’ll try to take it to the ground.

“I’m happy fighting anywhere that I can let my hands go. It doesn’t matter if it’s on the ground or standing.”

“I’m looking to knock her out. You always want to finish it.”

ROXANNE MODAFFERI:
“Sarah is a powerful fighter. I’m looking forward to the challenge of facing her.”

CORY DEVELA:
“I felt the pressure of fighting in front of my hometown last time I fought, so I let it go this time – no pressure.

“I haven’t fought in a while, but these guys won’t let me have any rust. They’ve been pushing me too hard for there to be any rust.

“I expect him to bleed. I will finish him – bleed and tap.”

BOBBY VOELKER:
“I weathered the storm my last couple of fights. Tomorrow night I’m bringing the storm.”

ABONGO HUMPHREY:
“Camp went extremely well. I was 205 pounds a month-and-a-half ago and I was able to control my diet and keep it there.

“At this weight, I have a lot of strength, movement and explosion.

“I know I need to set an example in this fight. This guy has a special story and he deserves special recognition. I owe him that.”

MIKE KYLE:
“You can expect a second a round knockout from me.”

CAROS FODOR:
“I’m excited to fight in front of my hometown fans and on SHOWTIME. Fighting on TV is a huge step for me. This is what I train for.

“I’m ready for everything in there. We had a great camp – I’m just ready for that bell to ring.”

THOMAS DIAGNE:
“I think he may try to take me down or box me, because he has strong hands, but I’m ready for everything.

“I’m not worried about the hometown crowd cheering him on. I’ll have my coaches behind me so that should be enough.

“Everything went well in training. I had a good camp and didn’t have any trouble making weight.”

Bombs away for Buentello and Sylvia in ‘War on the Mainland’ headliner; Three PWP Title fights featured on Aug. 14 PPV show in Irvine, CA

Posted on | July 22, 2010 | No Comments

SAN DIEGO (July 22, 2010) – Former UFC and Strikeforce heavyweight title challenger Paul “The Headhunter” Buentello believes his August 14 showdown against 2-time UFC heavyweight champion Tim “Maine-iac” Sylvia, headlining “War on the Mainland,” is the type of match-up MMA fans have been clamoring for when the power striking pair battle for the vacant Powerhouse World Promotions (PWP), LLC Heavyweight Championship, live on Pay-Per-View from Bren Events Center in Irvine, California.

“War on the Mainland,” presented by Powerhouse World Promotions, is being distributed by Integrated Sports Media at 10:00PM ET/7:00PM PT in North America on cable and satellite Pay-Per-View via iN Demand, DIRECTV, Avail-TVN and DISH Network, as well as Viewer’s Choice, Bell TV and Shaw PPV in Canada, for a suggested retail price of only $29.95. It will also be available in the United Kingdom via Primetime Live. The PPV card will also be streamed live on Internet PPV outside of the United States, Canada and United Kingdom by going to www.WarontheMainland.com.

“It’s a great match-up,” Buentello said, “one that fans there in the arena or watching at home will be out of their seats, because they’re going to be on their feet from beginning to end. Because I’m finally fighting Tim makes this fight more interesting. I respect him as a fighter. We were supposed to fight before but it didn’t happen and here it is now. We’re two top heavyweight competitors. Everybody knows what I’m about – my nickname (‘The Headhunter’) says it all.”

The 6’ 2”, 250-pound Buentello, fighting out of Amarillo, Texas, has defeated “Tank” Abbott, Justin Eilers, and Mike Kyle, as well as Gary Goodridge (DEC3) and Kirill “Baby Fedor” Sidelnikov (TKO3) in a pair of high-profile Affliction-promoted shows.

Buentello (27-12-0) has stopped 17 of his 27 victims, while the 6’ 8”, 300-pound Sylvia (26-6-0), fighting out of Bettendorf, Iowa, has also knocked out 17 foes. Tim has defeated many of the world’s top MMA heavyweights and super heavyweights, including Andrei Arlovski (2) Brandon Vera, Jeff Monson, Wes Sims, Ricco Rodriguez, Mike Whitehead (2), Ben Rothwell and Jason Lambert.

“Sylvia versus Buentello; everybody know what it’s all about,” Paul noted. “Neither one of us are submission guys. We’re both big guys who throw big punches. Fans know well in advance that they’re going to get their money’s worth.”

“I switched my training camp to Long Beach (CA) for this fight,” Buentello added. “I’m now training with Antonio McGee. It’s been a great camp so far.”

Sylvia-Buentello is one of three PWP title fights (5 X 5, all other fights are 3 X 5). Former WEC titlist Jason “The Punisher” Lambert (25-11-0) meets 8-time World Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu champion Allan Goes (17-3-0) for the vacant PWP Light Heavyweight title belt. Former UFC title challenger Thales Leite (17-3-1) takes on Strikeforce veteran Falaniko “Niko” Vitale (27-9-0) for the PWP Middleweight crown.

Fan favorite, former UFC Lightweight Champion Jens “Little Evil” Pulver (22-13-1), meets Diego “El Nino” Garijo (4-1-0) in a Special Lightweight Attraction.

Also fighting on “War on the Mainland” is Brazilian middleweight Gustavo “Ximu” Machado (18-8-1) vs. Rick Reeves (10-3-0) and Mexican welterweight Jorge “The Naked Man” Ortiz (16-5-1) vs. veteran Terry Martin (19-8-0).

Undercard fights featuring local fighters include lightweights Joao Silva (3-2-0) vs. Erin Beach (1-0-0), lightweights Cleber Luciano (3-3-0) vs. Todd Willingham (2-4-2), welterweights A.J. Mathews (3-0-0) vs. Sean Choice (1-0-0), and pro-debuting lightweights Evan Aitkins vs. Chad McCausland. All fights and fighters are subject to change.

FIGHT TALK UNLIMITED SHOW TONIGHT AT 8PM FEATURES JESSE NICKLOW, TARVIS SIMMS, JAKE SMITH AND KEVIN KILLIAN

Posted on | July 22, 2010 | No Comments

Tony “The Tornado” Penecale and “Rabble Rousin'” Rich Bergeron will be joined tonight (Starting at 8PM EST) by a great group of MMA and boxing guests, starting with a three-for-all interview with some folks involved in a Maryland-based MMA League called “Cage Time.” Boxer Tarvis Simms will be with us in the second hour.

Cage Time MMA’s next show is July 31 in Ocean City, MD. Headlining the card is 160 lb. Jesse “The Beast” Nicklow in only his second MMA fight after compiling a 20-2-2 record as a pro boxer. Jake Smith, the league promoter, will also join us. Smith has boxing promotion experience as well and can definitely speak to our ongoing MMA vs. Boxing Debate. Also in this segment we will be joined by Kevin Killian who is 1-0 as a professional MMA fighter and has an impressive amateur record in the sport.

The second hour will feature a chat with Pro Boxer “Marvelous” Tarvis Simms (25-1-1, 11 KOs). Nine days before his last fight and only loss, Simms got a call about facing top rated super middleweight Allan Green on the Showtime Network. Even though he returned to the gym 48 hours prior to the fight offer, he accepted the potential career defining opportunity. As per the short notice, Simms struggled to make weight and still put forth a valiant effort come fight night, but it wasn’t enough. He ultimately dropped a very competitive ten round decision and hasn’t fought since. With his lone defeat now nine months behind him, the 39 year old southpaw is itching for what may very well be his final opportunity. Simms is eager to show that he can outpoint any middle or super middleweight on the planet.

Tony and Rich will also stir up the MMA vs. Boxing debate again and give away some energy product to anyone who can guess the top three countries visiting our site in our new weekly segment we call “The Traffic Report.” Guess the top three foreign countries visiting our Web-site by calling us at (347) 324-3228 at 8:15 PM EST when we do the traffic report for the month of July so far on Unlimitedfightnews.com. The clue this week is M, N, & G. Those are the first letters of each of the top three. Listen to last week’s traffic report for another clue. The show will also cover all the latest circulating news in MMA and boxing and the upcoming fights to look out for, too.

MMA Can Be A Great Self Defense Training Method

Posted on | July 22, 2010 | No Comments

Fighting, even the most rough and tumble brawling, is an art form and one of which that doesn’t require actual physical altercations at your local gym, dojo, or even pub to acquire. However, truth be told, if you do find yourself on the wrong end of a bar fight it’s best to get yourself acquainted with close combat training scenarios beforehand that can effectively enhance your ability to protect yourself in certain unexpected situations.

These situations are unexpected to say the least. They usually involve you minding your own business when the anger of someone comes out of nowhere to challenge you both physically and sometimes even emotionally. This is why it’s best to know how to protect yourself because these situations are—as I said—unexpected. When an unexpected intention to fight presents itself it’s best to be ready to defend yourself if need be. This is where a healthy dose of MMA fight training can do wonders.

MMA (mixed martial arts) is a full contact sport that teaches how to fight in a variety of situations. This is because MMA teaches different fighting styles, some of which are new and some of which that are as old as fighting itself. Grappling and submission moves all have their place in the training and can teach someone how to bring someone down without using an overuse of violence. This is not to mention that most altercations that occur in public end up with two people on the ground and if one is versed in MMA submissions holds (like for example the arm bar) then it’s most likely that person is going to walk away from that fight unscathed or at-least the victor.

There are other various moves and techniques in MMA that would allow you to both subdue your attacker and protect yourself. For example, after a takedown a fight style called “ground and pound” is initiated in which you would throw hard hitting punches to your opponent once they are on their back and on the ground. If aggressive violence isn’t what you’re looking for, MMA offers submission grappling, which is also a great way to bring an end to the fight and to your opponent. When I speak of submission grappling I’m talking about being able to put your opponent in a chokehold or any of the following: joint locks, arm locks, leg locks, or pinning. Doing this submission style of fighting will allow you to end the fight more peacefully if that’s the route you want to take.

MMA can also go down the avenue of fast fighting style in which kicking boxing and other techniques are used to keep you quick and hopefully end the fight even faster. Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, catch wrestling, Judo, Sambo, Shootwrestling, Pankration, and others can also be taught via MMA fighting methods. Each of these fighting styles are much faster than most and can easily bring an opponent down in most situations. If you’re follow the teaching of MMA then not only are you learning the styles of a growing popular sport but you’re also learning how to protect and defend yourself in any unexpected situation.
