Interim WBA Super Flyweight World Champion Nonito Donaire Stops Hernan Marquez in Eight
Saturday, July 10, At San Juan , Puerto Rico
Live on SHOWTIME®
SAN JUAN, PUERTO RICO (July 11, 2010)—It took less than six minutes for WBO featherweight world champion and Puerto Rican star Juan Manuel “Juanma” Lopez to dispatch an outmatched Bernabe Concepcion on Saturday night at Coliseo De Puerto Rico in Hato Rey, just outside of the capital city of San Juan. After four knockdowns in the explosive—albeit short—fight, referee Luis Pabon halted the bout at 2:37 of round two, awarding Lopez the TKO to the delight of his hometown fans.
In the co-feature, interim WBA super flyweight world champion the “Filipino Flash” Nonito Donaire defended his title with an eighth-round technical knockout over young Hernan Marquez of Mexico.
Saturday’s world championship doubleheader was promoted by Top Rank, Inc., and P.R. Best Boxing and televised live on SHOWTIME.
Lopez made the sixth successful defense of his 126-pound title and set up a major showdown with future hall of fame boxer Rafael Marquez. The impending marquee fight is scheduled for September 18, at MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas and will be televised live on SHOWTIME.

WBO Featherweight Champion Juan Manuel Lopez dropped the challenger, Bernabe Concepcion, in the first minute of their world title bout Saturday at Coliseo de Puerto Rico near San Juan—the main event of the SHOWTIME Championship Boxing doubleheader.
On Saturday, Lopez used his superior speed and incredible power to knock down Concepcion in the first minute of the bout. After Concepcion got to his feet, Lopez unleashed a ferocious attack, landing multiple power-punches on his desperate opponent. But just before the bell and with his back to the ropes, Concepcion rallied with a miracle left hook that landed flush and sent Lopez down to the canvas.
In the second, Lopez floored Concepcion twice, forcing the ref to call it a night.
“Sometimes you get a little bit overconfident,” said the charismatic champion. “That’s what happened there. I have to be cautious never to be over confident.”
The 27-year-old Lopez remains undefeated with 29 wins and 26 knockouts.
In closing, SHOWTIME analyst Al Bernstein said, “Juan Manuel Lopez lights up a boxing ring in so many ways. His personality is as big as the great outdoors. His power is magnificent and he can be, at times, vulnerable and that’s part of what makes him such an exciting fighter to watch.”

With the win, Lopez remains undefeated, earns his sixth successful world title defense and sets the stage for a showdown with the indomitable Rafael Marquez (Sept 18, Live on SHOWTIME).
Donaire who typically fights in the orthodox stance, came into Saturday’s bout against 21-year-old Hernan Marquez looking to challenge himself. Donaire planned to fight the entire night from the southpaw stance. He did so for the first four rounds and landed some powerful straight left hands, especially in the fourth round. But in the fifth, Donaire switched to right-handed and began connecting at will, scoring a knockdown at the end of the round.

Nonito Donaire, the interim WBA 115-pound champion, disposed of young challenger Hernan Marquez with a brilliant left uppercut in the 8th round.
Donaire again knocked Marquez down near the end of the eighth round, this time with a terrific uppercut to the head. Referee Roberto Ramirez stopped the bout on the advice of the Marquez corner after the bell.
“I wanted more rounds,” said Donaire immediately after the fight. “I knew I could figure him out right away from the right-handed stance. But I was confident (in fighting lefty) and everybody on my team believed in me. I may have taken a little bit of a beating for it, but I feel that I needed that.”
“I will continue to work on my left-handed stance. I feel so much more powerful. Soon you will see Sweet Pea (Pernell Whitaker) or Marvelous Marvin Hagler from me. That’s what I want to do.”

Donaire remains one of the world’s top pound-for-pound fighters after another impressive performance.
Donaire improved his record to 24-1, with 16 KOs . Marquez dropped to 25-2 (18 KOs ).
Gus Johnson will call the action with Al Bernstein serving as expert analyst and Jim Gray as the ringside reporter. The executive producer is David Dinkins Jr., with Ray Smaltz producing and Bob Dunphy directing.

FRANKENSTEIN’S BLOGSTER: WE WANT YOU TO BE THE NEXT TOP FIGHT BLOGGER
Posted on | July 10, 2010 | 3 Comments
We want to create a new monster, Frankenstein’s Blogster, a blogging sensation with a head start on life in the fight industry media circles. We’ve made it this far with Fight News Unlimited, so we want to take another bright and hard-working blogger where he or she wants to go now. Why wait and get knocked around figuring things out and learning the hard way? It’s a big blogosphere, and we want to make sure you’re prepared to conquer all. We’ll provide the winner of our blog contest all the advice and support needed to run a successful and profitable fight news blog, and we’ll give the winner advertising and search engine optimization help, too.
THE NEXT TOP FIGHT BLOGGER CONTEST:
The Fight News Unlimited Network, in association with FREEBLOGFACTORY.COM & MMARECRUITER.COM, is looking for a few good bloggers…
If you think you might want to interview prominent fighters and fight industry figures, and if you think it would be cool to get into all kinds of local fighting events for free, we can help you realize your own dream by giving you the secrets we learned the hard way to put our own sites on the map. Fight News Unlimited started with an idea really, and then a MySpace page with a huge blog, and it became a Web-site within a few months. The Fight News Unlimited Network Founder Rich Bergeron was a small town newspaper reporter who wrote a few magazine articles here and there and did some pieces online for a few boxing Web-sites before he started Fight News Unlimited. CLICK HERE TO SEE THE OLDEST SURVIVING RECORD OF FIGHT NEWS UNLIMITED AS IT USED TO APPEAR TO VIEWERS.
Since then, Bergeron has been breaking big stories and covering every angle of the combat sports with a popular weekly talk show and podcast page and spin-off sites like fightspaceonline.com and fightradio.info. We’ve outlasted lots of other companies since we started. Our original radio show was on nowlive.com, which doesn’t even exist anymore as of this writing. The domain’s blank and up for sale. Rich and his staff have interviewed some big names over the years like Oscar De La Hoya, Donald Trump, and Ken Shamrock (just to name a few).
Rich gets into all kinds of events now for free with at least one photographer. It’s a dream job that all started with a simple MySpace profile and led to a blog that is now ranked in the top million sites in all the world. Now Rich gets to go backstage at all the big events and interact with all kinds of combat sports celebrities. Check out Rich this past May with Bas Rutten:
You could be the next great American fight news blogger with Rich’s help and the additional assistance of WWW.MMARECRUITER.COM and all our main sponsors if you win our contest. All you have to do is jump in head first to the blogosphere and start from scratch. Even if you don’t win the contest, you might just create a Web-site you can retire off of if you work hard enough at it. So, first, what you have to do is sign up for a blog we can track and observe by clicking on the following link provided by our friends at www.freeblogfactory.com:

Pick your domain (A.K.A. URL, DOTCOM) wisely. Keep it short for best results, and think big. Some people make amazing income from just buying and selling domains without even having to develop them. Think a domain can’t be worth that much??? THINK AGAIN. SLOTS.COM JUST SOLD EARLIER THIS YEAR FOR 5.5 MILLION DOLLARS!.

Ringside present Invasion on August 7th in Quebec
Posted on | July 10, 2010 | No Comments
(For Immediate Release) July 4th, 2010, Montreal – Ringside MMA would like alert fans to its pending incursion into the greater Quebec area for our 8th gala, titled Ringside 8: Invasion, which will be held at the Gilles-Tremblay Arena in Beauport located on 1011 Ave Larue on August 7th, 2010. For the first time ever in the capital region of Quebec, Ringside will bring professional ultimate fighting directly to the city’s passionate MMA fans. Several local fighters will get their opportunity to rise to the occasion on one of the most exciting fight cards that has ever been held to date. In addition, several young prospects will be sure to impress the crowd in their long awaited professional debuts.
In the main event, hailing from Quebec, is UFC veteran Jonathan “The Road Warrior” Goulet (22-11-0), who made it his choice to return to the local MMA scene and its fans which have continued to support him throughout his career, despite having several offers to fight abroad. A native of Victoriaville, Goulet has been training out of Montreal with some of the best fighters from around the world, and is looking to bounce back from a loss at the hands of Marcus Davis on May 8th after coming off a long layoff from suffering an injury during his fight against Mike Swick. Prior to that last fight, Goulet had been on a 3 fight win streak against Dan Chambers, Paul Georgieff and Kuniyoshi Hironaka. He was also the recipient of a UFC Fight of the Night bonus after his win at UFC 83. Thirsty for a another win and well known for his courage, Goulet has always proven that his best fights have been in his province of Quebec, where the roar of the crowd infuses him with the fury and rage to win. Goulet will be the biggest challenge faced yet by his opponent, rising star Matt MacGrath (8-3-0), who, like Goulet, is highly skilled on the ground. MacGrath is a Judoka specialist from Price Edward Island, and is regarded as one of the best Canadian prospects in his weight class.
In the co-main event of the night, the featherweight (145 pound) championship will be on the line as Canadian Mitch Gagnon (6-1-0) will defend his belt against American John Franchi (5-2-0). This will be Mitch Gagnon’s first title defence, since winning the featherweight tile in April over Guillaume Lamarche by way of guillotine choke early in the contest. Currently riding a 4 fight win streak, with his only loss coming by judges’ decision back in 2009, Gagnon wins come against the likes of Carpine, Harrison, and Bernadel, before being crowned Ringside’s first ever featherweight champion after his victory over Lamarche. His opponent, Franchi, began his professional MMA career with 5 consecutive victories. His start was so impressive, that he quickly earned a spot in the 1FL, and subsequently the prestigious WEC. After winning his first fight in the WEC against Mike Budnik, Franchi suffered losses in his next two fights against veterans Manny Gamburyan and Cub Swanson. With the Ringside title up for grabs, this will literally be Franchi’s golden opportunity to find his path to victory.
On the main card, Quebec’s Guillaume Fortier (2-2-0) will face a yet to be named opponent. Holding wins over Erik Dumaine and Pierre-Etienne Marcoux, Fortier suffered a loss in June against Dwight Sutherland in Winnipeg. He also, no doubt, wants to get back to his winning ways.
Also, Drummondville’s Gillaume Lamarche (6-3-0) will find himself facing the unbeaten Tristan Johnson (5-0-0). Lamarche, despite being a kickboxing specialist, won 5 of his 6 fights by submission, and he will be looking to bounce back from losing a chance at gold against Mitch Gagnon this past April. Lamarche knows that he is no more than 2 wins away from earning a second chance at the title. Moreover, he will be motivated by his desire to avenge the loss that his teammate Eric Leclerc suffered at the hands of Johnson in 2008. The Darmouth native followed that up with another win in his last fight against Brad Duguay in August, 2009. Inactive since then, Johnson will be looking to pick this pick up where he left off.
Next up will be a war between Erik Dumaine (2-1-0) and Stephane Bernadel (5-2-0). In his last fight, Dumaine showcased himself with a TKO victory over Mikael Pellerin. For his part, Bernadel may have suffered a loss by guillotine choke against Gagnon in December of 2009, but he came right back with a win against Justin Smethurst in April. Molded in the image of his teammate Guillaume Lamarche, who has already fought Bernadel himself, Dumaine feels that he has all the tools required to beat an opponent he feels he knows very well. However, Bernadel, well known for his striking abilities, has grown as a fighter, and has added two submission victories to his record since that earlier fight against Lamarche. This will be a battle between two great strikers, both with ability to surprise the fight fans, in a contest for which is it impossible to predict the outcome.
There will be a total of 10 explosive fights presented on this card, which will also see Kevin Morin (3-2-0) take on Steven Rogers (4-2-0), local prospect Guillaume Vigneau from Quebec making his professional debut against David Fraser (1-3-0) from Riviere-du-Loup, the promising Keven Tremblay, also from Quebec, making his own debut against Tommy Cote from Victoriaville, Levis Labrie from Montreal will face Aaron Bellemare from Barrie, Ontario, as well as David Lafond from Sherbrooke, will fight Michael Karkula (1-0-0) from Toronto.
