Darts legend Phil “The Power” Taylor makes the draw for Super Bantamweight night
Willie “Big Bang” Casey and Mark Moran will kick off Prizefighter Super Bantamweights at York Hall, Bethnal Green on Saturday May 29.
The draw for Barry Hearn’s latest eight-man, one night tournament was made by Darts legend Phil “The Power” Taylor ahead of the Whyte & Mackay Premier League Play-offs at Wembley Arena.
Unbeaten Irishman Casey has won four of his fives fights by knockout and issued a warning to the rest of the line-up, saying: “I’m not called Big Bang for nothing.” Liverpool’s Moran has been out of action for 13 months through injury and will face a stern test against the 28 year-old.
Former Commonwealth, European and British title holder Esham Pickering faces Barnsley’s Josh Wale in the second quarter-final with the winners of those two fights face each other in the opening semi-final.
The third quarter-final sees Commonwealth gold medallist Jamie Arthur face Welshman Robbie Turley, with unbeaten Ricky Owen facing Yorkshireman Gavin Reid in the final quarter-final.

Gleason’s Gym will host the New York City Empire State Games Finals this Saturday evening May 29, 2010.
This premier tournament is only second to the Daily News Golden Gloves. It will showcase New York City’s best amateur boxers.
The show will include amateur boxers that are part of our Monthly Boxing Series. The show will include JO, Novice, Senior and Master bouts.
The New York City Empire State Games Finalists will meet winners from other areas of the State in Buffalo at The 2010 Empire State Games in late July.
The weigh in will begin at 4:00PM and the first bout will begin at 6:00PM.
All our bouts are pre-matched. They are sanctioned by USABoxingMetro. All boxers must have their boxing book with them in order to participate.

MFC declares intent for Ontario events

Tentative dates and locations secured pending sanctioning

The Maximum Fighting Championship should be the first mixed martial arts promotion to hold a major world-class event in the province of Ontario pending final sanctioning of the sport by the provincial government and regulatory bodies.
The MFC, which has become one of the top mixed martial arts promotions in North America, has tentative agreements in place with several Ontario venues to host events beginning as early as February 2011. All agreements are subject to official sanctioning of the mixed martial arts.
“I have said for years that once Ontario opens up legally, the Maximum Fighting Championship will proudly be there in full-force,” said Pavelich. “Pending the sanctioning required from the Ontario government, it will happen – the MFC will be first in the door and we will be there to stay.
“The Ontario market is remarkable and the MFC brand is already well-known and well-regarded there but we intend on taking the MFC to greater heights and do it for the thousands of mixed martial fans there. While everything regarding sanctioning for mixed martial arts is in the tentative stages and the MFC respects the process being taken, the Maximum Fighting Championship is not tentative about what it will accomplish once Ontario becomes fully-legalized for the sport.
“Unlike others the MFC will make Ontario a huge part of our yearly schedule. We won’t be there once or twice a year – the MFC will make a home in Ontario and host several shows each year in numerous locations.”
The Maximum Fighting Championship became the first fully-sanctioned mixed martial arts organization in Canada outside of Quebec when the company launched in 2000. The MFC and its own developmental promotion, Heat XC, have combined for 32 shows since bursting onto the scene with 95% of the shows hosted in front of sold-out crowds.
Since February 2008, the Maximum Fighting Championship has been the only Canadian-based mixed martial arts organization that features its shows on live television thanks to its broadcast partnership with HDNet, the cable network created by Dallas Mavericks owner Mark Cuban.
Once the Province of Ontario does sanction mixed martial arts, the Maximum Fighting Championship will be able to fully announce its schedule and host venues for shows.

Live for Saturday’s highly anticipated “Once And Four All” fistic extravaganza at STAPLES Center on SHOWTIME®.
In the main event, Vazquez and Marquez will collide for a fourth time (Vazquez leads the epic series, 2-1). Perez will defend against Mares in a battle of unbeatens in what promises to be a spectacular co-feature.

YONNHY PEREZ
“I am prepared and ready to go, as usual, and very anxious. I can’t wait for Saturday and wish it was today. This will be a tough fight but I don’t think it will be as tough as my last two.
“I have a great responsibility, more responsibility than ever, for this fight. Getting to and winning a title is one thing, keeping it and remaining champion is much harder.
“The IBF title belt doesn’t belong to me. It really belongs two my two kids, who I gave it to, and you can never take back what you give to your kids. It is in Los Angeles now, but only as a loan. After May 22, it is going back to them in Colombia .
“I will do most of my talking in the ring, but I do think conditioning will be a major factor in this fight. I know how hard and long I can go. Let’s see what he can do.’’
ABNER MARES
“We’re another day closer, which only makes me a little more nervous, but that’s a good thing. If I didn’t have butterflies, something would be wrong. The hardest part for me now is getting to Friday and making the weight.
“Yonnhy is a great friend, but on Saturday’s he’s going be like the best friend who stole your girlfriend. I’m going to take it to him.
“We know what Yonnhy is going to bring to the table. He’s a workhorse who comes straight ahead. But he is one-dimensional. I consider myself more of a complete fighter. I can slug but I’m also a slick boxer.
“I’ve waited my whole life for this opportunity and I am confident I will make the best of it.’’

The Allyns emerged as credible authors with the launching of “Gordon Solie Something Left Behind” (hardback version) at the 2005 Tampa WrestlingReunion. The festivities included bookings with over seventy legends from the “squared circle” and led to interviews for the Allyns on Tampa’s WTVT-TV and WTSP-TV along with appearances at the WTVT 50th Anniversary Banquet and the St. Petersburg Times Reading Festival.

MaxFightsDM and Glory Fighting Championship Combine Efforts to Deliver Maximum Glory MMA Event at the Val Air Ballroom on July 9

Des Moines, IA May 21, 2010 – MaxFightsDM and Glory Fighting Championship have entered into an agreement to co-produce live professional mixed martial arts (MMA) events in Iowa. Both companies are well established fight promotion organizations that have produced numerous events in several area venues. Glory FC was established in 2006 by Sullivan Baccam and Ted Baccam. MaxFightsDM is the newest venture of Des Moines promoters Scott Casber and Chris Arns, who began producing fight events in 2005 and have owned stakes in other fight promotions.
Glory is renowned for its high production values, as well as helping develop the careers of many nationally recognized fighters including Joe Brammer, Kevin Burns, Alonzo Martinez, and Zach Micklewright. MaxfightsDM is recognized for their strong ties to the wrestling community, as well as its celebrity-centric promotions. MaxFightsDM recent events featured bouts including Hermes Franca, Josh Neer, and Ben Askren. Many of the MMA’s top personalities have attended and helped promote their events, including Rampage Jackson, Randy Couture, Rashad Evans, Matt Hughes, Diego Sanchez and Tim Sylvia.
Strikeforce Light Heavyweight Champion, and larger than life figure, King Mo, will attend the July MaxFightsDM/Glory FC event. Details on meet and greet opportunities will be provided soon.
Titled “Maximum Glory”, the Friday, July 9 event will deliver a unique mix of talent and experience, drawing on the vast and combined resources of both companies. In the night’s main event, suddenly famous Eric Wisely returns to the same venue where he TKO’d former WEC champion, and UFC title contender, Hermes Franca. Wisely, a Clinton, IA native, stunned the world at the MaxFightsDM January event gaining the win, and summoning Franca’s subsequent retirement announcement. This time, the unified MaxFightsDM/Glory FC Lightweight belt is at stake when Wisely puts it on the line with undefeated (7-0) Lonnie “Scrittywood” Scriven. Securing an opponent for Wisely proved a challenge, given his tough reputation, and Scriven has shown nothing but respect and appreciation for his opponent. At the same time, he’s confident that his training with, in his words, “My team Hard Drive, my heroes” is enough to make the difference on its own. Scriven is training for the title fight with the Cedar Rapids based team including standouts Steve Carl, Jarred Downing, Bill Kamery, and Damien Papagni.
A second MaxFightsDM/Glory FC unified belt will be awarded in the Featherweight Division at Maximum Glory. Undefeated Benely Xamonty (8-0) puts his record at risk against Des Moines favorite, Brad “Bad Boy” Floyd. Xamonty blends a lethal mix of straight up Muay Thai and mad stand up skills, and is a proven crowd pleaser. Floyd is on a five fight winning streak, owns an unstoppable heart, and has gained much experience training with Jeremy Stephens, and Josh Neer at Des Moines Mixed Martial Arts Academy.
Another exciting highlight arrives when Glory FC CEO Sullivan Baccam climbs into the cage to face Rob “Cemetery” Gates. Baccam’s heralded wrestling career, accompanied by his intense focus and training in striking, has him clearly focused on a victory via knockout. Gates is a member of the venerable Team Hard Drive in Cedar Rapids, and is known for his tremendous striking ability. Baccam’s only loss came at the hands of Gates’ team member and training partner, Bill Kamery. Bacaam views his bout with Gates as the logical step toward a rematch with Kamery. Gates too, has also suffered only a single loss. One man must change their claim to two losses. Neither man intends to do so.
Other key fights rounding out the 12 bout card include Nate” Teddy Bear” Williams vs. Joey Nguyen, Ashland Grady vs. Michael Graham, and Larry Tanchinh vs. Randy Meyer.
The Maximum Glory official weigh-ins and after party are held at Margarita’s Dance Club at 2060 NW 94th Street in Clive. The public weigh-ins/face offs are held at 7PM on Thursday, July 8. The after party begins immediately upon the conclusion of the fight event. Discounted admission to the after event is provided to anyone providing their Maximum Glory ticket stub.
