PHILADELPHIA (March 29, 2010)—There have been some slight changes to the two main events that will takes place this Friday night’s big “Spring Fling” boxing event that will take place at the Legendary Blue Horizon.
The new main event will still feature USBA Jr. Middleweight champion, Derek “Pooh” Ennis. He will now face Jose Adelaydo Gonzalez of Garden City, Kansas.
Ennis was originally supposed to do battle with Frankie Santos. Santos will still fight Ennis but he will now face Derek’s brother Farah Ennis in an eight round Super Middleweight bout.
Gonzalez brings in a record of 13-6-1 with eleven knockouts and despite facing top competition has only been stopped one time.
On March 7th, 2008 he fought then undefeated Jason LeHoullier (21-0) for the NABA Super Welterweight title in LeHoullier’s backyard in Connecticut and held LeHoullier to a disputed draw.
He twice went the distance with highly regarded Carson Jones as well as fringe contender Joaquin Zamora. Gonzalez went seven rounds with then undefeated Ronald Hearns.
In his last bout, Gonzalez lost an eight round unanimous decision to Jones on October 24, 2009 in Joplin, Missouri.
Santos has a record of 17-8-4 with eight knockouts.
The native of Salinas, Puerto Rico will be looking to get back into the win column after dropping an eight round unanimous decision to prized Cuban prospect Yudel Jhonson (8-0) on September 18th.
He was unbeaten in his first fourteen bouts (13-0-1) before stepping up the competition and has lost to notables Francisco Bojado (10-1), Irving Garcia (9-2); Lamont Peterson (21-0) and Matthew Hatton (32-3-2).
In a battle of undefeated Heavyweights, John Bolden (1-0, 1 KO) of New York, who scored a sensational knockout over Nathan Perrot on December at The Legendary Blue Horizon
Jennings (1-0) of Philadelphia is coming off a four round unanimoud decision over Zeferino Albino on February 27th at The Arena in Philadelphia.
In a four round battle of Philadelphia based Cruiserweights, Heath Harris (1-6, 1 KO) takes on Taneal Goyco (3-1, 1 KO).

After 17 years, the wait is over as Hopkins (50-5-1, 32 KOs) and Jones (54-6, 40 KOs), two of boxing’s most decorated and recognizable fighters, will put it all on the line and leave no doubts as to who gets the bragging rights. On May 22, 1993, Hopkins and Jones fought for the vacant IBF middleweight belt, the first shot at a world title for both fighters. The fight, which Jones won by unanimous decision, was a hard fought contest that set the stage for both fighters’ respective paths to boxing stardom. Jones went on to win titles in four weight classes, including middleweight, super middleweight, light heavyweight and his historic heavyweight championship. Hopkins, who claimed Jones’ vacated IBF middleweight title in 1995, didn’t lose another fight for 12 years following his battle with Jones. While Jones ruled as pound-for-pound best for the better part of a decade, Hopkins took advantage of his middleweight crown by setting a record of 20 defenses and solidifying his place as one of the greatest middleweight fighters in the history of the sport.

At 45 years young, Hopkins is still rated among the top pound for pound best in boxing. After his victory over Segundo Mercado in 1995 for the IBF middleweight title, Hopkins’ momentum began to build as he scored victories over quality contenders. Roy Jones Jr.’s storied career has had countless defining moments which have catapulted him to being a household name. Jones was unstoppable in the 90’s as he stunned his opponents with incredible speed and relentless power. He made history on March 1, 2003, when he thwarted then-heavyweight champion John Ruiz to become the first former middleweight champion to win the heavyweight title in more than 100 years. After taking John Ruiz’ heavyweight crown, Jones dropped down to light heavyweight in order to take on Florida rival Antonio Tarver on November 8, 2003. He captured a split decision victory, but suffered consecutive defeats to Tarver and a surprising loss to Glen Johnson. Ennis of Philadelphia has been perfect as he has amassed a record of 12-0 with six knockouts.
The twenty-seven year old Ennis has generated a buzz in the Philadelphia boxing scene since he turned pro with 2nd round stoppage over Sylvester Golding on February 11, 2006 in Philadelphia.

Promising Youngster Will Face Nashville’s Zach Underwood
NASHVILLE (March 29, 2010) – Hunter “The Future’’ Worsham, a member of the United States Army’s 101st Airborne and son of mixed martial arts (MMA) pioneer Cal Worsham, will square off with Nashville resident Zach Underwood in a middleweight (185 pounds) preliminary bout at the STRIKEFORCE Nashville: Henderson vs. Shields mixed martial arts (MMA) event at Bridgestone Arena on Saturday, April 17.
The 26-year-old Worsham, a married father of one, is stationed at Fort Campbell, located an hour away from Nashville. The upcoming matchup represents the biggest opportunity of his career.
“It is an honor to be fighting on this show. The fact that Dan Henderson is headlining (against STRIKEFORCE middleweight champion Jake Shields) is an honor in itself,” said the 6-foot1 inch Worsham. “But I believe this is the level I should be at. STRIKEFORCE is where I want to be. They’re right in my backyard.’’
A four-year high school wrestler, Worsham competed for Cordova High in Rancho Cordova, Calif. for three years and, in his senior year, for Folsom High in Folsom.
“I wrestled throughout high school, but I’d been into cage fighting since I was 13,’’ said Worsham, who’s father fought in some of the earliest UFC events in the mid-1990’s and owned a gym with MMA legend Don Frye. Hunter started doing MMA when he was 17 years old and, before the elder Worsham retired, father and son fought on the same card, each winning by knockout on Aug. 4, 2007.
Worsham, who entered the Army on Sept. 3, 2008, trains three times a day when he is not in the field or is off work.
“This fight isn’t a one-time thing. It’s a way of life for me (outside of the Army). In school, I didn’t know what I wanted to do, but fighting came naturally. I wasn’t in a lot of street fights but, with red hair and glasses, I got picked on a lot.’’
The bullying ceased almost immediately after a conversation with his father.
“When I told my Dad, he said to ‘never let another kid touch me again.’ That’s when I started to really train hard. Besides, I’d figured why fight in school or on the streets when I could just go do it and look good in front of a crowd, while making some money and being honest about it.
“I wouldn’t be the fighter I am today without my Dad, who won five of seven title fights and fought a lot of the better guys that others wouldn’t. However good I am in this sport is because of him.’’
Worsham turned pro in April 2007 and fought four times that year. Due in large part to his stint in the service, this will be just his third start in two and a half years and second since donning the army green.
Worsham won his second MMA belt in his last outing when he captured the Gladiator Challenge light heavyweight (205 pounds) title on March 6 with a 2:43, first-round submission (armbar) over Phillip Brown. He captured the Gladiator Challenge 170-pound crown with a crowd-pleasing, five-round unanimous decision over Niko Medina on Aug. 13, 2008.
Worsham hasn’t heard officially but he expects to be deployed shortly after the fight on April 17.
“It has all worked out for the best,’’ he said. “Everything I do, serving in the Army, fighting in MMA, is for my wife and our 16-month-old. It is definitely tough leaving them behind, but the upside, fighting on this STRIKEFORCE card, or any other, is all for them.”
The Worsham-Underwood clash is one of 10 bouts slated for STRIKEFORCE Nashville: Henderson vs. Shields. Steve ‘USS’ Cunningham A Free Agent

Former IBF Cruiserweight Champion Steve ‘USS’ Cunningham is a promotional free agent following the conclusion of his eight year promotional contract with Don King Productions. ‘USS’ Cunningham and his wife, and manager, Livvy, are currently considering various options ahead of his forthcoming challenge for the vacant IBF World Cruiserweight title against Canada’s Troy Ross.
US Navy veteran ‘USS’ Cunningham, who returned from camp, in Big Bear, California, last week following the cancellation of the 26th March title fight with Matt ‘Too Smooth’ Godfrey, spoke briefly about his time with Don King Productions . “It has been eight that I’ve been under contract with DKP, and a lot has happened, in those eight years I have become a world champion and have traveled all over the world, from South Africa to Europe. I am thankful to Don for the opportunities that he has given me and I wish him and his company nothing but the best in the future.”
He then went on to speak about his future plans. “As for my future, I’m excited, I am looking forward to finding a situation where I will be able to be more active in the ring and get more television exposure. I have been through a lot recently but I think one thing that has come out if it that was positive is that there has been a strong public interest in seeing me fight. It didn’t work out this time, but Lord willing, I will get another shot to fight on TV soon.”
‘USS’ Cunningham held the IBF World Cruiserweight title from 26th May 2007, after defeating Poland’s Krzysztof ‘Diablo’ Wlodarczyk, and defended the title twice, the first, which he won by a twelfth round stoppage, on the 29th December 2007 against Marco ‘Kapt’n’ Huck. Just over one year later, ‘USS’ Cunningham, lost a close split decision to Tomasz ‘Goral’ Adamek following their ‘Fight of the Year’ nominated battle at the Prudential Center in Newark, New Jersey on the 11th December 2008.
Team Cunningham and Troy Ross’ management have 30 days to come to an agreement for Cunningham vs. Ross for the vacant IBF World Cruiserweight title otherwise the IBF will order a purse bid.

AUDLEY: HAYE WILL LOSE TITLE IF HE UNDERESTIMATES RUIZ

AUDLEY Harrison believes David Haye will lose his WBA World Heavyweight Championship on Saturday if he underestimates American John Ruiz.
Haye fights Ruiz at the MEN Arena in Manchester in the first defence of his belt, which he won in November by beating Russian giant Nikolay Valuev.
However, Harrison, who fights Michael Sprott for the vacant European title on April 9 at London’s Alexandra Palace, thinks betting favourite Haye is not in peak condition.
“I watched a training session of David Haye from Sky Sports and his timing is off. He’s also carrying excess weight,” said Harrison.
“I know David very well and mark my words, if he doesn’t blast out Ruiz early, which is possible, then it’ll be a tough night.
“Golden Boy have also signed Ruiz, so they are in with the winner and out with the winner.
“But it’s a funny old game and if it doesn’t go well for David on Saturday night then who knows what the future holds for him.”
With Ukrainian Wladimir Klitschko holding the IBF, WBO and IBO belts and his brother Vitali as WBC Champion, Harrison insists Haye needs to impress American fight fans on Saturday.
But California-based Harrison maintains Haye will not be seen as a true world champion until he has defeated one of the Klitschkos.
“The heavyweight division is desperately looking for marquee names and, no disrespect to David Haye, but no one in the US is talking about David Haye,” added 38-year-old Harrison.
“They’re all talking about the Klitschkos and no one is giving David Haye any play as a world champion so the guys I want to fight are the Klitschkos.
“If you get a chance against David Haye then people will say ‘you now have to beat the Klitschkos’, so if I beat Sprott, I want the Klitschkos.
“The fight with Sprott is obviously huge for me because when I get revenge and lift the title it puts me straight in line for a shot at the world title.
“People are talking about me fighting David Haye at Wembley but, with all due respect to David, outside of the UK no one is talking about him – it’s the Klitschkos they see as the real Heavyweight Champions so dethroning one of them is what I really want.
