USA Grappling Coach Ricardo Liborio to give free clinic at Grappling Worlds in Fort Lauderdale, Fla. on Saturday, Dec. 12

USA Grappling National Coach Ricardo Liborio, a legend in Grappling and MMA circles, will give a free clinic between sessions of the FILA Grappling World Championships in Fort Lauderdale, Florida.

The clinic will be held at 5:00 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 12, at the Fort Lauderdale/Broward County Convention Center. It will be free to all ticketholders at the event.

Liborio is the head coach of the USA Grappling team, and will be coaching the U.S. athletes who are competing at the World Championships. The United States is the defending World Champions in No-Gi and Gi Grappling. Liborio is also responsible for developing the national USA Grappling program.

Liborio is the co-owner and head instructor for American Top Team in Coconut Creek, Fla., one of the top Grappling and MMA academies in the world. He was a champion in international Jiu-Jitsu, and has trained numerous champion athletes in Grappling, Jiu-Jitsu, Mixed Martial Arts and other disciplines.

As an athlete, Liborio was awarded a Black Belt in 1993 under Master Carlson Gracie. He was a 1996 Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu World (Mundial) Champion, and was voted the Most Technical Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu competitor in 1996 Mundial. A three-time Brazilian National Champion, he placed second at the Abu Dhabi Submission Tournament in 2000 and third in 1999. Liborio was a Brazilian national champion in judo, and also was a state champion in wrestling in Brazil.

Liborio was a co-founder of Brazilian Top Team, a successful program he directed in Brazil for two years. He moved to the United States in 2001 and along with Dan Lambert, developed American Top Team into a championship program. He was voted NAGA Coach of the Year in 2005 and has been inducted into the NAGA Grappling Hall of Fame. He is the trainer of multiple World Champions and MMA fighters. Among the champion Grapplers he has coached are Ricardo Arona, Marcelo Garcia and Jeff Monson.

The No-Gi competition will also be held at the World Championships on Saturday. The preliminaries are set for 9:00 a.m., with the gold-medal finals to follow the Liborio clinic at 6:30 p.m.

Daily ticket prices are $20 for adults and $10 for youth and seniors. They are available at the door, or in advance through TicketLeap.com.

The Gi Grappling competition will also be held on Sunday, Dec. 13, with sessions at 9:00 a.m. and 2:00 p.m. There will also be a USA vs. Brazil judo dual meet at 1:00 p.m. Sunday.

Westminster, MD – A very special night it will be Friday December 11 at the Shipley Arena when USBO Light Heavyweight champion Mark “TNT” Tucker headlines an exciting night of boxing, where fans can enjoy an action packed card and help out those in need.

Tucker, 12-0 (7 KO’s), makes his first title defense against hard hitting instate rival George “El Gallo” Armenta. The Eldersburg, MD based Tucker has victories over title challengers Rubin Williams and Ross Thompson, pounding out decisions in both fights. Dubbed by local media as “the franchise” due to his large fan base, Tucker returns to the Shipley Arena for a fifth consecutive time.

Armenta, 13-4 (11 KO’s), of Silver Springs, won seven of his last eight fights and enters the ring with an air of confidence. The hard hitting Armenta holds victories over world title challenger Irving Garcia, 2000 Olympian Dante Craig and dropped a controversial majority decision to WBA Junior Middleweight champion Yuri Foreman. Armenta has promised to end Tucker’s night early.

The Tucker-Armenta USBO Light Heavyweight title fight will take place over ten rounds.

With Christmas coming only two weeks after fight night, Toys for Tots representatives will be on hand throughout the evening to collect donations. All ticket holders are encouraged to bring toys no longer in use to help make this Christmas enjoyable for the less fortunate.

“Any time we can provide fans with excellent entertainment and help out the needy at the same time it’s a win win situation”, said promoter Mark Tucker Sr. “Last time we fought at the Shipley we had a record crowd and if we can bring in another large crowd, I expect there to be enough donations to help out countless underprivileged families.”

Hot prospect James “Keep em Sleepin” Stevenson, 12-0 (10 KO’s), of Baltimore, MD tops a talented undercard and will appear against North Carolina’s John Williams in a six round junior middleweight contest. An excellent boxer-puncher, Stevenson is rated amongst the elite prospects in the Beltway Region.

Also slated to appear in separate bouts are former elite amateurs Emmanuel “Transformer” Taylor, “Slick” Nick Kisner, and Adam Willett. Local favorites Allan Perkins “Pit Bull” Perkins and Omar Sims will respectively appear four round middleweight bouts.

Individual ticket prices range from $15-125. VIP mini tables of four are going for $300 and VIP seating for ten ranges from $750-1250. All VIP ticket holders will get free Hor’dourves from 7-8 PM.

First Telecast To Feature Undefeated Superstar CUNG LE In His Long-Awaited Return To The Cage,

EDMONTON (Dec. 2, 2009)—Super Channel, Canada’s only national pay television network, is pleased to announce an exclusive agreement to offer SHOWTIME Sports® telecasts of STRIKEFORCE Mixed Martial Arts (MMA) events live to viewers across Canada, beginning Saturday, Dec.19. On that night, undefeated middleweight (185 pounds) superstar Cung Le (6-0) will take on hard-hitting Scott “Hands of Steel” Smith (16-6) in the main event of a stacked fight card at HP Pavilion in San Jose, Calif.

The live HD telecast of STRIKEFORCE: Le vs. Smith on Super Channel will begin at 10 p.m. ET and will include as many as five bouts.

Le recently made a successful transition to acting and has since been touted as Hollywood’s next great martial arts action film star. In 2009, he played supporting roles in the science fiction thriller Pandorum, co-starring Dennis Quaid and Ben Foster, as well as the action film Fighting, which co-stars Channing Tatum and Terrence Howard. Next year, he will return to the silver screen in the motion picture adaptation of blockbuster video game franchise Tekken.

Le, who last month voluntarily relinquished the STRIKEFORCE middleweight belt he had claimed by dismantling MMA legend Frank Shamrock in 2008, has never lost a fight in his professional fighting career. He‘s perfect in MMA, kickboxing (22-0) and Sanshou (17-0).

MELVIN “NO MERCY” MANHOEF SIGNS WITH STRIKEFORCE

NEW YORK (Dec. 2, 2009) – DREAM and K-1 powerhouse Melvin “No Mercy” Manhoef has signed a multi-year agreement to compete for world championship mixed martial arts (MMA) promotion STRIKEFORCE.

The 5-foot-8, 33-year-old, who hails from Amsterdam, Netherlands, comes to STRIKEFORCE after reaching the semifinal round of the 2008 DREAM Middleweight (185 pounds) Grand Prix tournament by scoring first round TKOs over Dae Won Kim and legendary champion Kazushi Sakuraba on May 11, 2008 and June 15, 2008 respectfully.

His well-known battle cry “When I fight, I am willing to die” has translated into Manhoef’s explosive style of fighting, one that has helped him earn 22 of his 30 career MMA wins and 27 of his 45 career kickboxing victories by knockout.

On Feb. 26, 2005, Manhoef initiated his best run to date, a 10-fight win streak in MMA competition, by stopping Matthias Riccio at Cage Rage 10 in London, England with a series of strikes in the first round (3:01).

Amongst his victims during the stretch were Ian “The Machine” Freeman and Crosley Gracie, both of whom Manhoef stopped in the first round with strikes. Manhoef was crowned Cage Rage champion on Sept. 10, 2005 after scoring a 51-second knockout with punches over Brazil’s Fabio Piamonte in London.

Asked on short notice to serve as a replacement in a heavyweight matchup with knockout artist Mark Hunt at the annual New Year’s Eve “Dynamite” extravaganza in Saitama, Japan last year, Manhoef obliged and, despite being at a tremendous weight disadvantage, crushed the Samoan fighter with an onslaught of punches a mere 18 seconds after the opening bell rang.

Manhoef’s career in K-1, the world’s premiere stand-up fighting league, dates back to Feb. 24, 2002. During his tenure with the Japanese promotion, he has triumphed over the likes of former K-1 tournament champions Stefan Leko and Ruslan Karaev, whom Manhoef flattened with a left hook only 31 seconds into their meeting in Amsterdam on June 23, 2007.

Born in Suriname, Manhoef relocated to Rotterdam with his family when he was three years old. He was introduced to the sport of Muay Thai by his brother and, at age 18, won his first bout.

FORMER WORLD CHAMP REES WANTS TO BE A WINNER AGAIN

GAVIN REES believes he is training harder for Friday’s Prizefighter Light-Welterweights event than when he was defending his World Championship.

Rees, 29, clinched the WBA title in July 2007 but admits he was not totally dedicated and lost his first defence against Ukraine’s Andriy Kotelnik.

“When I had the world title I was taking things for granted and didn’t think I could lose,” admitted Welshman Rees, who has only been beaten once in a 29-fight professional career.

“Losing a world title is gutting for anyone but I wasn’t training or eating properly.

“I’m more hungry to win this than when I was defending a world title and I have a lot to prove to a lot of people.

“I’ve had a long time out of the ring and I’ve come back hungrier than I’ve ever been.

“The training is going great, I’ve been doing it for eight weeks and am very dedicated, as I should’ve been a few years ago.

“Since I’ve had a year out of the ring after losing the title, I now want to box 100 per cent.

“A lot of people see me as the favourite to win Prizefighter but we will see what happens.”

The eight-man, one-night Prizefighter Light-Welterweights tournament features a strong line-up with three former European Champions alongside Rees vying for the £32,000 top prize.

Boxing legend Floyd Mayweather Jnr performed the draw and gave Rees a tough task as he meets ex-European title holder Ted Bami in the quarter-finals.

However, Rees fully expects to win Prizefighter and has set his sights on fighting either undefeated British Lightweight Champion John Murray or Amir Khan, who currently holds the WBA Light-Welterweight title that Rees used to possess.

“I prefer to fight at lightweight but if there are big fights at light-welterweight then I will go for them,” added Rees.

“If a chance came to fight Amir Khan then I would love to. There was talk of me boxing him a few years ago but it never happened.

“Everyone knows as soon as he gets caught he will be knocked out and that’s why against Kotelnik, he ran around the ring.

“I’m fully confident of beating Khan as I would walk through has punches and catch him with some big shots.

“I fully expect to win Prizefighter. Bami has had better days years ago and he will be hoping he catches me with a lucky punch.

“After a year out my career seemed to be going dead but winning Prizefighter will revive my career. I want to be a winner again.”

Prizefighter Light-Welterweights takes place at London’s Olympia on Friday, December 4 and tickets are still available.
