New York (July 29, 2009)—This Saturday night one of the most prestigious world titles will be up for grabs as Delvin Rodriguez & Isaac Hlatshwayo rematch for the IBF Welterweight title from the Mohegan Sun Resort in Uncasville, CT.

Rodriguez, 24-2-2 with fourteen knockouts will be looking fulfill a dream by winning a coveted world title in front of the hometown fans as Rodriguez resides just a few minutes away in Danbury, Connecticut.

Hlatshwayo has a record of 28-1-1 with ten knockouts has fought nothing but the best as he has a win over former Lightweight champion Nate Campbell and fought a spirited fight in his lone defeat at the hands of former WBO Jr. Welterweight champion Kendall Holt.

The native of Soweto, South Africa will not be in intimidated fighting on the turf of Rodriguez as this will be his fifth fight in the United States which includes the win over Campbell in Campbell’s home area of Tampa, Florida.

The two fought to a spirited draw last November 17th when controversy took over as Hlatshwayo was announced the winner in Gauteng, South Africa. The bout was later changed to a draw after the scores were added up for a second time to correct a mathematical error.

That bout was an IBF Welterweight elimination bout for the right to face then champion Joshua Clottey.

Clottey vacated the belt in order to face Miguel Cotto so this fight is for all the glory of becoming a world champion.

In addition to that world title bout, Joe DeGuardia’s Star Boxing has assembled an outstanding undercard that will feature former U.S. Olympian, Demetrius Andrade, ladies sensation Maureen Shea and undefeated prospect Raymond Serrano.

Andrade, 5-0 with four knockouts will take on twenty-four fight veteran Chad Greenleaf in a six round Jr. Middleweight bout.

Shea, 13-1 with seven knockouts will look to rebound off her first professional loss when she tangles with Lindsay Garbatt, 2-2 in an eight round Super Featherweight bout.

Serrano of Philadelphia will look to add on to his 9-0, five knockout record when he battles twenty-four bout veteran Jessie Davis in a six round Jr. Middleweight affair.

Jr. Bantamweight title fight, and Steve Molitor top stacked Rumble at Rama IX

RAMA, ON (Wednesday, July 29th, 2009) – On Friday, September 4th, the eyes of the boxing world will be on Casino Rama, in Rama, Ontario, as one of the sport’s budding superstars, 19 year-old “Marvelous” Marvin Sonsona (13-0, 12 KO’s) tries to become one of the youngest world boxing champions of the modern era, when he takes on hard-hitting WBO Jr. Bantamweight World Champion Jose Lopez (39-7-2, 32 KO’s) in the co-main event of Rumble at Rama IX.

Former IBF Junior Featherweight champ “The Canadian Kid” Steve Molitor (29-1, 11 KO’s) highlights the evening’s other co-feature, opposite an opponent still to be determined.

Sonsona – who, like his superstar compatriot, Manny “Pac-Man” Pacquiao, is a southpaw hailing from General Santos City, in the Philippines – became one of the brightest blips on the boxing radar this past May, in only his 13th career fight, laying waste to two-time world champion Wandee Singwancha in the second round courtesy of a crushing left to the jaw.

“This kid is, without a doubt, the future of the sport of boxing,” said Orion Sports Management President Allan Tremblay, who recently joined a promotional consortium headed by Sampson Lewkowich, and in doing so, obtained Sonsona’s Canadian promotional rights.

“Limitless potential like Sonsona’s is a rarity. When you see what this kid was able to do as an 18 year-old, and what he’s capable of down the road, I have no doubt that in a couple of years, when Manny Pacquiao has retired, he’ll be the number-one boxing superstar in the Philippines.”

But, no matter how bright Sonsona’s future appears, don’t expect Lopez, from Trujillo Alto, Puerto Rico, to meekly surrender his title to a fighter some 18 years his junior.

The 37 year-old hasn’t lost in almost eight years, following up a September 2001 decision loss to then WBO Flyweight champion Fernando Montiel with a sixteen fight unbeaten streak that includes nine wins inside the distance.

This will be Lopez’ first defense of the title he won this past March courtesy of a 12 round unanimous decision over Thailand’s Pramuansak Posuwan, in Bayamon, Puerto Rico.

“This is one of those battles that tries to answer age-old question of youth, speed, and potential, versus experience and know-how,” Tremblay said.

“Plus, from a style perspective alone, this fight is a war, never mind the fact that you have a brilliant, but still green, Sonsona, vying for his first world title, taking on one of the most battletested fighters in the world in Lopez.”

Canadian Heavyweight champion, Greg “The Steel Pole” Kielsa (10-0, 5 KO’S) will also step through the ropes on the Rumble at Rama IX undercard, as will all-action warriors Justin Fountain, Felix Mercedes, and Pedro DeMello.

“The Rumble at Rama series is known for providing boxing fans with world-class fights and we’re very excited to be adding this WBO title match which features the next hottest fighter in the sport to that list “ says Jeff Craik, Vice President, Marketing for Casino Rama.

Held in Casino Rama’s state-of-the-art 5,200 seat Entertainment Centre, the Rumble at Rama series has firmly established the Casino as the premier venue in which to see the Big Time Excitement of a world-class fight in Ontario. Rumble at Rama IX takes place on Friday, September 4th, with the undercard bouts getting underway at 8:00 pm.

The Molitor fight and the WBO title match between Lopez and Sonsona will be shown on TSN in Canada, and both bouts will also be seen on national carrier coverage in both the Philippines and Puerto Rico.

Professional Boxing Arrives at Ulvila – Outdoor boxing show on 8/8/2009 in Finland

The personal coach for reigning Finnish national and Baltic (BBU) heavyweight champion Juho Haapoja, Petro “El Caramelito” Koskimies with his Caramelito Promotions professional boxing stable is promoting his second pro boxing show in Ulvila Finland.
The upcoming show, promoted by Caramelito Promotions will be quite exceptional because it will be an outdoor event first in Finland over 14 years. The show will be held in a local Finnish baseball stadium in Ulvila Finland.

The show will contain seven fights and those fights are in order of weight divisions:

Featherweight (57,2kg): The fight between Russian Andrey Bogdanov, 28, and Estonian Sergey Tasimov is scheduled for 6 rounds. Quick-handed Bogdanov is currently #2 in featherweight division in Russia. His current record is 8 (2 KO) – 1 – 1. The Estonian boxer is much more experienced and having fought with many top class boxers who have later fought and won either European or World titles. The best known opponent for Tasimov has been Ukrainian Wladimir Sidorenko to whom Tasimov has lost on points back in 2003.

Light Welterweight (63,5kg): Pekka Eskelinen (FIN), 31 year-old Helsinki-based boxer is looking for his first pro victory on his second fight after a surprising loss in his debut back in February. Eskelinen will square off with Rustam Shidginov (RUS), 22, who won his latest fight during this month on points against an unbeaten Ukrainian fighter. The fight is scheduled for four rounds.
Welterweight (66,7kg): In a 6 round-bout Moscow-based Alexander Filichkin (RUS), 24, will face an opponent who is still at the moment TBA. Filichkin has pro career length of seven victorious bouts. His latest two wins have come by knockouts.

Welterweight (66,7kg): The newest member in Caramelito Promotions –stable is called as Roope Puumalainen (FIN), 22. Puumalainen has been two-times in a row runner-up for Finnish national amateur championships and in addition he has won some various national tournaments. In his fight, which is scheduled for four rounds, Puumalainen will make unofficial Finnish national record by facing the most experienced opponent which any Finnish pro boxer has boxed against in debut. Puumalainen´s opponent, Leonti “Showman” Voronchuk, 35, has this far fought against eight Finnish pro boxers. About those eight well-skilled boxers “Showman” won Juha Temonen and Jyrki Vierelä but only former EBU champion Amin Asikainen has succeeded to get victory over Estonian before the final bell. Latest time Voronchuk fought on the 26.7. losing by points for former Olympic gold medalist Mahomed Abdulaev (Sydney 2000) at Abdulaev´s back yard at Uzbekistan.

Welterweight (66,7kg): Patrick Bogere (SWE/UGA), 27, represents Caramelito Promotions´ new co-operation stable (McClory-stable) from Sweden. In his pro debut he won his fight on points. Bogere is having great merits back in his amateur career by being four-time Swedish national champion. Back in 2004 Bogere was the only boxer from Nordic countries to take part in Summer Olympics at Athens. In all Bogere has fought 120 amateur fights, from which 95 has ended victoriously for him. Bogere´s opponent will be Vyborg-based Alexander Lykov (RUS), 30, who has earlier fought five times in Finland. The fight between Bogere and Lykov is scheduled for four rounds.

Super Middleweight (76,2kg): The another boxer managed by Jason McClory, Badou Jack (SWE/GAM), 25, is hunting for his second straight win as a pro. Jack, who is having a huge list of amateur merits is a six-time Swedish champion and participant of 2008 Beijing Summers Olympic games. He was nominated as the best amateur boxer in Sweden in 2007. At Ulvila Badou Jack will go toe-to-toe with 34 years old Oleg Pavlov (RUS) who is having his fourth pro fight. Also this fight is scheduled for four rounds.
Heavyweight (+90,7kg): The main event of the show will contain a local hero and Caramelito Promotions –stable´s heavyweight debutant Janne “Finnish Butterbean” Katajisto, 31. Katajisto who is also known as former two-time Finnish national amateur Super Heavyweight champion. As an amateur he beat both Robert Helenius and Juho Haapoja who are currently TOP heavyweights in Finnish pro rankings. Also Katajisto has gathered a great experience from various international tournaments. The opponent for Katajisto will be Igor Evseev (RUS) who is also making his pro debut.

The show will contain also some beauty females in the ring as the show hostess will be Anne-Mari Berg, well-known Finnish celebrity-model and beauty queen. The ring card girls will be local beauty competitors.

STATION CASINOS OFFICIALLY FILES BANKRUPTCY

Station Casinos has filed for bankruptcy after negotiations with creditors failed to produce a workable solution. While the bankruptcy filing only affects a portion of the vast business and its many arms, it could be a very long fight. The company, laden with an estimated $5.7 billion in debt, is playing off the move as nothing to get alarmed about in recent press reports:

Cage Fighting Xtreme: BATTLE UNDER THE STARS Special Edition Podcast

Cage Fighting Xtreme Comes to Brockton this Saturday, August 1 on a night that will certainly be one to remember in Massachusetts MMA History. The 10 Day Forecast for Brockton, MA, where the show will be held inside Campanelli Stadium with the cage on the pitcher’s mound, calls for partly-cloudy skies and 80-degree temperatures on Saturday.

Brockton, known for its “City of Champions” nickname, produced the likes of Rocky Marciano and Marvin Hagler. Its full fighting spirit will be on display when several hometown heroes from the city put their skills on display in front of what should be the largest crowd many of them have ever fought in front of.
