Tickets are now on sale as Scott Wagner’s Ballroom Boxing and Chet Koerner’s TKO BOXING Promotions, present an evening of world class professional boxing on Thursday, April 2nd at Michael’s Eighth Avenue.

Tickets, starting at $35.00, can be purchased in advance, by calling the Ballroom Boxing Box Office at 410-766-7474. Doors on the evening of the event will open at 6:30pm with the first bell at 7:30pm. Michael’s Eighth Avenue is located at 7220 Grayburn Dr., in Glen Burnie, MD.

Headlining on April 2nd will be popular Baltimore super middleweight Mike “THE PERSECUTOR” Paschall who will battle Sam “THE PUNCHING POLICEMAN” Hill of St. Louis, Missouri. Paschall, 18-1-1 (4KO’s), is coming off a terrific six round decision win over James Johnson on November 20th at Michael’s Eighth Ave.

Hill, 17-10-1 (10KO’s), has faced numerous world champions and contenders in his twelve year career including Jermain Taylor, Rico Hoye, Sebastien Demers, Prince Badi Ajamu, Maselino Masoe and most recently Travis Simms. In 2001, he scored a ninth round TKO of former junior middleweight champion David Reid.

Making his first appearance at Michael’s Eighth Avenue is undefeated featherweight sensation Matt “THE SHARP SHOOTER” Remillard.of Hartford, CT who will see action in a scheduled eight rounder against Minneapolis, MN native Hassan Wasswa.

Known for his all action, crowd pleasing style, Remillard, 16-0-0 (8KO’s), is amongst the finest young prospects in boxing. He is coming off a decision win over former world champion Mauricio Pastrana on November 13th in Providence, Rhode Island.

The 26 year old Tyree Samuel, 11-2-1 (5KO’s), returns to Michael’s Eighth Avenue, following his outstanding ten round win over Ron Boyd on November 20th for the Maryland State Super Featherweight Title. Further information on his bout will be announced shortly.

In an eight round middleweight bout, Nigerian prospect Albert “THE PUNISHER” Onolunose will face Phoenix, Arizona native Anthony “THE POWER HOUSE” Bartinelli.

Onolunose, 16-0-0 with six knockouts, will be making his first local appearance. Last April he won an eight round decision over former contender Eduardo Sanchez in British Columbia, Canada. Bartinelli is coming off an eight round war with former world title challenger Elvin Ayala in January at the Plaza Hotel in Las Vegas.

Full Report: Malik Bouziane Dethrones Ian Napa

On Friday night at Newham Leisure Centre, in London, England, European bantamweight champion Ian Napa was dethroned by challenger Malik Bouziane on points over 12 rounds on a Frank Maloney fight card.

Frenchman Bouziane outboxed the normally slippery Napa, who was never able to find his rhythm against the challenger and uncharacteristically inactive for much of the bout. Bouziane had no problems finding the target and nullified Napa’s normally formidable bodywork with superb footwork and a good offense of his own.

The cagey Algerian born boxer switched from orthodox to southpaw and simply wasn’t there to hit for Napa, who was defeated on points, 118-110, 117-111 and 115-113, losing the European title on his first defense and dropping to 18-7 (1).

Former French titlist Bouziane pulls off a career best performance and the new European Bantamweight Champion improves to 11-1 (1).

Light middle Sam Webb, 13-1 (4), of Chislehurst won a tough points decision against Birmingham scrapper Mad Max Maxwell, 9-5 (1), on a score of 77-75 after eight torrid rounds of combat. With the victory, Webb could move onto an official British title eliminator this year.

British southern area featherweight titlist Akaash Bhatia, 14-0 (5), of Harrow continued his march to a domestic title opportunity by knocking out Slovakian southpaw Elemir Rafael, 3-28-1 (0), at 2:23 of the first frame of a non-title bout. The lightning fisted Bhatia has build impressive momentum over the last year and showing improved power, has stopped his last three opponents.

Flyweight Ashley Sexton, 5-0 (3), of Cheshunt stopped Robert Nelson, 6-2-2 (0), of Bradford at 2:14 of the sixth frame of a scheduled eight and has quickly become a threat to the reign of British and Commonwealth champion Chris Edwards.

Lightweight Henry Castle, 20-4 (11), of Salisbury was taken the six round distance by awkward, granite-jawed welterweight journeyman Kristian Laight, 6-56-5 (0), winning by a margin of 59-54. Castle is also on the short list to contend for a domestic belt, having won his last six bouts.

Heavyweight Larry Olubamiwo, 4-0 (4), of Hackney knocked out Polish import Michal Skierniewski, 3-4-1 (1), with a single crushing right hand at 1:01 of the first frame, while Cheatham based heavyweight Tom Dallas, 4-0 (2), did the same to “Big” Ben Harding, 2-2-1 (0), of Plymouth at 1:58 of the initial round.

The one-two punch of promotional stablemates Olubamiwo and Dallas represents the future of the heavyweight division in Britain.

Rugged Lithuanian light middle Tomas Grublys, 3-0 (2), stopped experienced Portsmouth southpaw Paul Dyer, 18-11 (1), at 1:06 in the fourth while lightweight Liam Shinkwin, 2-0 (0), of Bushey Heath outpointed East Ham lefty Johnny Greaves, 1-28 (1), by a score of 59-55 over the course of six round thriller.

Cestus Fighters Gomez and Luna Jr. Thrill Live Crowd on ESPN undercard in Laredo Texas

On March 20, 2009 , ESPN’s “Friday Night Fights Boxing Series” invaded beautiful Laredo, Texas , with an excellent fight card which drove the local and area contingent out in force as over four thousand rabid boxing fans crowded the Laredo Entertainment Center . The event was promoted by Banner Promotions and delivered nonstop action. What further made the card a complete success was the presence of Cestus Management products Rodolfo “ BABY COBRA” Gomez and Robert “NIGHTHAWK” Luna Jr. Both Gomez and Luna Jr. produced scintillating performances which left everyone in attendance gasping for more.

The local fans were also given a special treat when Cestus Management’s good friend and supporter, Mexican boxing legend and current undisputed world lightweight champion Juan Manuel Marquez flew in all the way from Mexico City, Mexico and showed his class outside of the ring, to be at ringside to support the two Cestus fighters by leading them into the ring for each of their fights.

Robert “NIGHTHAWK” Luna Jr. (142 pounds) was featured in the second non-televised undercard fight of the night and was true to form as he battered Kingsville, Texas , combatant Oscar Gonzalez (142 ½ pounds) over four rounds. The “NIGHTHAWK”, and Iraq war veteran, showcased his entire arsenal as he unleashed bone shattering combinations which seriously damaged the game but clearly outgunned Gonzalez. All three judges scored the bout 40-35 in favor of the “NIGHTHAWK”. Luna Jr. improved to 3-0 with 1 knockout.

As the fight night went on, local fan favorite Rodolfo “ BABY COBRA” Gomez brought the thousands present to their feet as he made his way to ring. The energy inside the Laredo Entertainment Center was intoxicating as everyone in attendance was still buzzing from Luna Jr.’s display of brutality and where now anticipated witnessing another breathtaking knockout by the six-foot, three-inch power punching Mexican-American phenomena. The fans were not disappointed as in the opening round, the “ BABY COBRA” dropped Villarreal with a quick left hook to the jaw. The dazed but determined Texan beat the count and was eventually saved by the bell. It did not matter as Gomez came out in the second and went right back to work using his amazing eighty inch reach in the form of a left jab. Villarreal, sensing that he was in over his head, began to charge in with his head in an attempt to rattle the “ BABY COBRA”. Gomez responded by dropping a crushing right hand on Villarreal’s face which sent the Texan crashing to the canvas and brought the live crowd to a roar. There was no need for a count as Villarreal laid flat causing the referee to immediately call a halt to the contest. Gomez improved to 3-0 with 3 knockouts.

MIGUEL ESPINO STOPS ALEX GARCIA IN 6 AND RETAINS WBC CABOFE TITLE

March 23, 2009 — WBC CABOFE Middleweight Champion and former Contender alum Miguel Espino (20-2-1, 9 KO’s) continued his winning ways by stopping former light middleweight champion Alex “Terra” Garcia in an impressive fashion this past Saturday night at the Playboy Mansion in Beverly Hills, California. In front of a packed celebrity crowd and TV sets all over the nation, Espino and Garcia traded shots for the first three rounds when Espino then dropped Garcia twice at the end of rounds’ four and five. After the sixth round, Garcia failed to come out for the seventh round which then led to a KO for Espino while retaining his WBC CABOFE title.

Long-time trainer John Bray had nothing but positive things to say about his pupil; “After a long year off, Miguel looked good and did what he had to do to continue his dream of being the Middleweight champion of the world. There is always room for improvement, but I was proud of the way he fought after taking a couple of hard shots from Garcia. It was a good fight and I’m looking forward to keeping him busy. “ Bray also added that: “Although Miguel was off for a year, it wasn’t because he wanted to be. He was set to fight three notable fighters but for some reason, negotiations failed weeks prior to each fight. I would have loved to keep him active but it just didn’t work out until this fight.”

When interviewed after the fight, Espino stated that: “After a year off, I felt rusty in the ring but I’m glad that I kept active in the gym the whole year and it paid off. Even though three fights failed to happen last year, I stayed busy at the gym (Fortune Gym) and just kept working hard, and like I said, it paid off. I was always in the gym preparing myself for a fight, even ready to take one on short notice. I take my hat off to Garcia, he fought a good fight and now I’m just ready to take it to the next level in preparation for a world title shot.”

MATTHEWS-PASLEY ADDED TO LEGENDARY BLUE HORIZON CARD ON APRIL 3RD

Cruiserweight showdown added to packed card on April 3rd

PHILADELPHIA (March 23, 2009)—A very intriguing six round cruiserweight fight has been added to an already packed show that will take place at The Legendary Blue Horizon on Friday night, April 3rd.

The card is promoted by Vernoca L. Michael and Blue Horizon Boxing Promotions Inc.

Julio Cesar Matthews will risk his undefeated record when he takes on the streaking Kamrah Pasley in a bout scheduled for six rounds.

Matthews of Reading, PA has a record of 6-0 with five knockouts and has knocked out four straight opponents since returning from an eleven year hiatus from the ring.

The thirty-nine year old Matthews scored his most significant stoppages in his last two bouts when he first took out Chris Stallworth (9-1) in fifty-nine seconds on September 13th, 2009. In his last bout, Matthews scored a third round stoppage over William Bailey on December 5th in Reading.

Despite losing his first three bouts, Pasley was undeterred and it has paid off as he has won his last three bouts to get back to an even record of 3-3 with one knockout.

Those three losses came at The Legendary Blue Horizon so Pasley will be looking for redemption in The Blue Horizon ring.

Pasley has won all three of those bouts in 2009. The streak started with a third round stoppage of thirty-three fight veteran Cullen Rogers on January 16th. Then he scored a shocking unanimous decision over prospect Pedro Martinez (3-1) on January 31st. In his last bout, Pasley scored four round unanimous decision over debuting John Burgos on March 13th.

That fight was added to a much anticipated card that will feature one of the most talked about bouts in the city as undefeated Israeli sensation, Ran Nakash (17-0, 12 KO’s)takes on Philly-favorite Dave Brunelli (8-4, 3 KO’s) in a cruiserweight fight scheduled for eight rounds.

Last week, Team Brunelli guaranteed victory. Nakash will be arriving in Philadelphia this coming weekend and they will be sure to have a response to Brunelli’s proclamation.

In a much talked about co-feature, Tyric “Too Sweet” Robinson (9-3-1, 3 KO’s) battles Julias Edmonds (4-3) in a six round Jr. Welterweight “Philly Turf War” showdown.

Middleweight Gee Cullmer (15-1, 3 KO’s) takes on Anthony Little (7-11-1, 1 KO of Akron, Ohio in a bout scheduled for eight rounds.

Exciting super featherweight, Joselito Collado (6-0, 2 KO’s) returns to The Legendary Blue Horizon as he takes on Jason Rorie (2-2-2, 1 KO) of Winston-Salem, North Carolina in a bout scheduled for six rounds.

Taneal Goyco (1-0, 1 KO) tussles with Davit Davitshvili (0-1) in a battle of Philly based Cruiserweights scheduled for four rounds.

Derrick Bivins (1-0-1) of Philadelphia takes on Joseph Francisco (1-1) of Jacksboro, Tennessee in a Super Featherweight bout scheduled for four rounds.

Separate bouts involving welterweight Ronald Cruz (2-0, 1 KO) of Bethlehem, PA and New York based Jr. Welterweight Christian Martinez (1-0, 1 KO) will also be a part of this big night of boxing.

TakeDown Radio’s Steve Foster Takes National Award and is Considered Top Broadcaster By His Peers

A number of champions were crowned during last weeks NCAA Wrestling Finals. While much of the action was found on the mats, another exciting announcement regards a man that has spent as much time around mats as nearly anyone. For 30 years, Steve Foster has been driven by his passion for wrestling.

QUICK HIT NEWS: KLINEFELTER MOVES TO 3-0 AS PRO FEMALE BOXER

Grand Rapids, Michigan – Late Friday night at the Woodlawn Sports Complex, Iowa City native and University of Iowa Accounting graduate student Emily “the Enforcer” Klinefelter moved to 3-0 as a professional boxer with a 4-round unanimous decision over Michigan’s Brenda Rodriguez (now 1-5). Klinefelter scored a knockdown in the 1st round and earned a standing-8 (legal in Michigan) in the 4th, but the tough and scrappy Rodriguez proved that she was game to the core, fighting hard throughout.The bout was a credit to women’s boxing and had the crowd abuzz about what was dubbed the fight of the night. All three judges scorecards had Klinefelter winning 40-34.
