Former WBC Heavyweight Champion has a lot on the on-line when he battles unheralded American in an historic webcast this Saturday

Boruff, of Kokomo, Indiana is going to try to live the real-life Rocky story as the unknown heavyweight has an impressive record of 17-2-1 with ten knockouts. His only two losses are to former Heavyweight champion Michael Moorer and world-rated heavyweight, JD Chapman.

If Maskaev doesn’t beat Boruff, he is jeopardizing and will lose his mandatory status as per the WBC order dated December 25, 2008. The WBC ordered that the winner of the Vitali Klitschko-Gomez bout must make the next defense of the WBC Heavyweight Championship against Maskaev. The Winner v. Maskaev on terms set forth in the order. The Winner v. Maskaev shall take place within 120 days after the Vitali Klitschko-Gomez bout. Following completion of that bout, the parties of the Winner v. Maskaev bout shall have a period of 30 days for open and free negotiation. Purse offer procedures will ensue if an agreement is not reached with the winning purse offer being spit between the boxers according to the procedure set forth in Sec.5.

Promoter, Dennis Rappaport, said that Oleg is not looking past Boruff, however, it will be a pleasure to once and again have a 100% healthy Maskaev. The AFO is branching into boxing, sanctioning one of two title fights on Celtic Pride Boxing’s St. Patrick’s Day weekend pro boxing card.

Promoters Mark Porter and Packy Collins of Celtic Pride Promotions, in association with Mark Vaz Boxing, will be presenting it’s second annual St Patrick’s Day Boxing Show at the Dorchester Armory on Saturday, March 14 at 7pm.

The main event will feature Dublin’s Patrick Hyland putting up his undefeated record against Nicaragua’s Carlos Guevara, 12-8-1 (9). Guevara lost a close decision to Orlando Cruz for the IBA title in Puerto Rico last year, and brings tremendous punching power and determination into the fight.

Hyland, at 15-0 with 8 knockouts is one of 3 brothers fighting professionally out of Dublin, Ireland. Hyland will be making his second consecutive appearance on Celtic Pride’s St. Patrick’s Day show, and facing the most dangerous opponent of his career.

The co-feature, for the American Fighting Organization’s first championship belt will showcase young prospect Gary “Spike” O’Sullivan of Dublin taking a huge step up in competition against veteran Jimmy LeBlanc of South Boston. At only 6-0, O’Sullivan faces the far more experienced boxer, a veteran of 31 professional fights and coming off an impressive first round knockout of Luther Smith, as well as an impressive role in “Gone, Baby, Gone” as a gangster in the hugely successful movie filmed in Boston.

2008 US Olympic Team Alternate Danny O’Connor (4-0, 1ko) from nearby Framingham, MA will make his first appearance as a professional in his home state, facing the tough Charles Wade of Philadelphia.

O’Connor, who last Friday opened the ESPN2 Friday Night Fights broadcast in a thrilling 4 round bout has all the elements of a future star.

Top contender and former UFC light heavyweight champion Quentin “RAMPAGE” Jackson is expected in attendance this Saturday night, at World Championship Fighting 6.

Rampage won the belt by ending Chuck Liddell’s 7 fight win streak by first round knock-out and then lost it by controversial decision to Forrest Griffin. Since the Griffin fight, Rampage has brutally knocked out Wanderlei Silva, and defeated Keith Jardine by decision this past weekend in the main event of UFC 96. After the win over Jardine, Rampage was named the #1 Contender for the light heavyweight title, currently held by Rashad Evans.

Rampage will be cornering training partner Mike Dolce out of England’s Wolf Lair.

Luck of the Irish for Danny O’Connor Fighting Saturday night in Boston area

FRAMINGHAM, Mass. (March 11, 2009) – No sooner had the announcement been made that the March 16th “Erin Go Brawl II” show in New York City was canceled, Seminole Warriors Boxing informed its prize light welterweight, Danny O’Connor, of his repositioning on a show this Saturday night in Boston.

The National Guard Armory in Dorchester (70 Liberty Ave.) isn’t a long drive for family, friends and fans from Framingham to watch O’Connor (4-0, 1 KO), 2008 U.S. Olympic first alternate, fight live against Charlie Wade (4-7, 1 KO).

O’Connor is coming off of his impressive national television debut January 30, winning a 4-round decision in the opening bout on ESPN’s Friday Night Fights against light welterweight Jamar Saunders (2-1-1, 1 KO) at the Seminole Hard Rock Hotel & Casino in Hollywood, Florida.

“I was disappointed when I first heard that the show at Madison Square Garden had been canceled,” O’Connor said. “I think every time I’m supposed to fight in New York something happens. This is the second time but I believe everything happens for a reason and this got me in a card in Boston. I’m so happy. It’s amazing. Now everybody from home can come watch me fight live. They wanted me on ESPN my last fight and now they can see me in person. I can’t imagine how I’ll feel when I walk into the ring with everybody there cheering for me.

“My ESPN fight was huge because a lot of people got to watch me fight for the first time. It helped build my fan-base. It was also a step-up against a tough kid. I’m a pro. This is what I do – fight! I turned in a solid performance but I’m also a perfectionist who thinks I can always do better. It was only my fourth pro fight and was another part of my learning process. I leaned a lot last fight and we’ve bee working to improve some things that I’ll bring into this fight in Boston. I want to stay busy and learn something new every fight.”

The 23-year-old O’Connor won last year’s US Future Stars National Championship, in which, he was named Most Outstanding Boxer, as well as the 2008 National Golden Gloves Tournament. The highlight of Danny’s amateur career was defeating eventual 2008 Olympic Gold medalist Felix Diaz, of the Dominican Republic, last May in a USA-Dominican Republic dual meet.

“We were very happy with Danny’s last fight against a legitimate, young fighter,” O’Connor’s head trainer and co-manager David Keefe remarked. “He used his jab very well and showed excellent speed and good overall boxing skills. We’re very happy to have Danny boxing in Boston. We accepted the opportunity right after we learned about the New York showing being canceled. This was our next best choice and we hope Danny will be fighting at Madison Square Garden in the future. When (co-manager) Rob (Valle) and I were looking for a promoter, we had a game plan for Danny to stay busy. We didn’t want only five fights a year. We believe it’s very important for a young, up-and-comer like Danny to fight a lot. It’s been that way since the first day we met Leon (Margules, Executive Director, Seminole Warriors Boxing).”

NEW TOWN, North Dakota (March 10, 2009) – The first Sovereign Nations Mixed Martial Arts (SNMMA) championship will be contested Saturday night, March 21 at “Beatdown 4” when Brandon “The Iron Lion” Lee Hinkle battles Chris Tuchscherer in the main event at 4 Bears Casino in New Town, North Dakota. UFC heavyweight champion Brock Lesner is scheduled to make a special appearance.

SNMMA links federally recognized tribes throughout the United States and Canada. SNMMA’s mission is to develop, promote and help regulate mixed-martial-arts in a fair and professional manner by federally recognized tribes that are sovereign nations.

Sherdog named Hinkle-Tuchscherer as one of its top 10 MMA fights for March. Hinkle (14-9-1, 8 (T)KO, 4 Submissions), fighting out of Columbus, Ohio, is a former NCAA, Division II wrestling champion. He is also 2-0 as a professional boxer. Tuchscherer (15-1-0, 5 (T)KOs, 6 Submissions), from nearby Fargo (ND), was a 2-time NCAA, Div. II All-America wrestler. Hinkle-Tuchscherer for the vacant SNMMA heavyweight title is scheduled for five, 5-minute rounds (all other fights on the card have three, 3-minute rounds).

“What makes SNMMA different from other native organizations is that it’s not based on race,” SNMMA president Pat Packineau explained. “SNMMA has been created to draw awareness that tribal casinos host numerous mixed-martial-arts events every year and our new organization unites tribes in the sport by having our own championship belt.

Boxers of any race may capture the SNMMA championship, as long as the title fight is contested on federally recognized land or have off-tribal sites approved in advance by the SNMMA board of directors.

“The SNMMA’s goal is to bring notoriety to Native American casino MMA events and recognize the athletes competing on Tribal Lands for SNMMA championships. We’re excited to host the first SNMMA title fight at 4 Bears Casino.”

The Minnesota Martial Arts Academy will be represented by a large continent of Minneapolis and St. Paul based fighters on the card. Former UFC fighter Drew Fickett (36-10-0) takes on welterweight Nick “The Carnie” Lentz (14-3-1) in a much-anticipated co-feature.
