Golden Gloves Boxing February 24 and March 10, 2009

Gleason’s Gym is sponsoring two Daily News Golden Gloves shows. Both shows will be at The Masonic Temple, 317 Clermont Ave., Brooklyn, NY 12205. The first bout will be 7:00PM and all tickets are $25. Master’s Clinic and Boxing Show February 19-21, 2009

So far 13 people have signed up for the clinic and show and 8 people have signed up for the show only.

The Master’s clinic is scheduled for February 19, 20 and will conclude with the sanctioned show on the evening of February 21, 2009. The clinic will be staffed with Hall of Fame Champions, World Champions both past and current and ranked World Class Trainers. Training and seminars will start at 1:00 PM on Thursday and will end at 12:00 Noon on Saturday. The fee for the clinic is $299.00. After the clinic concludes, the match ups and weigh in for the USABoxingMetro sanctioned all Master boxing show will take place. All boxers must have their Master’s Passbook with them in order to compete. The first bout will be at 7:00 PM Saturday evening. There is no fee to compete and you do not have to attend the clinic to compete. All bouts will be pre- matched. If you wish to compete but not attend the clinic, you must contact Angela Querol at the Gleason’s Gym number (718) 797-2872. First choice for matching up will be given to attendees of the clinic. The clinic and show will take place at Gleason’s Gym in New York City. The $299.00 fee may be paid by credit card or check. You can use e-mail or postage. Our first professional boxing show on February 3rd was very exciting. The location, The Masonic Temple, 317 Clermont Ave., Brooklyn, NY 11205 is a terrific venue. There is not a bad seat in the house. The 350- seat balcony makes the place look like a small Blue Horizon. The next show is scheduled for Tuesday, April 10th. We will follow our format and use primarily four and six round New York boxers. The results of our first seven bout card are as follows:

XCF ONLINE PAY PER VIEW TO AID INJURED MMA FIGHTER

With the excitement of the Dyna-Pep Rumble In Race Town being only days away, Xtreme Cagefighting Federation has answered the requests of MMA fans throughout the country, by broadcasting this historic event live with streaming video on Saturday, February 14th at 7:30pm.

Corey Hill who fights out of Rob Kahn’s Gracie Tampa stable, was a junior college national wrestling champion and is considered one of the top up and coming fighters in his division. CSAC needs KIMO Therapy

IRVINE, California (February 9, 2009) – If combat fighting legend KIMO Leopoldo, the face of New Era Fighting, is appointed for the position he’s applied as Executive Officer of the California State Athletic Commission (CSAC), his first order of business will be to recruit a staff of fresh, clean people without a trace of corruption associated with the previous regime.

“Somebody or some group apparently is trying to hide the degree of corruption in CSAC,” KIMO explained his position. ”CSAC former director, Armando Garcia, was allegedly caught with $350,000 (in cash) in his locker, but he was allowed to resign instead of being prosecuted. I’d allow some of the present staff remain in their positions, provided they voluntarily subject themselves to an FBI investigation into the entire matter, and prove they aren’t involved with the CSAC’s corruption, bias or improper activities. In my opinion, temporary executive officer Dean Lohouis isn’t any different than Armando. The CSAC needs change and I’m willing to provide therapy.”

KIMO is publically offering to speak with California high school wrestlers about being winners in and out of competition. “I think it’s better to instill good habits in a young person as opposed to trying to break bad habits when you’re older,” KIMO said as he prepared to schedule to his campaign trail. “Since most MMA fighters seem to be coming out of my backyard in southern California, I want to talk to local wrestlers about the benefits of staying drug free and how to remain positive even when times seem too tough. I don’t want anyone to make the same mistakes I made and, if I can save just one young person, my efforts will be worthwhile. HDNET FIGHTS INKS LONG-TERM DEAL WITH WORLD VICTORY ROAD

Agreement brings the fast rising Sengoku promotion to HDNet

DALLAS (February 9, 2009) – HDNet Fights announced today that it has agreed to a long-term partnership with World Victory Road to exclusively air the Sengoku Mixed Martial Arts promotion on HDNet. The deal marks the first time that the promotion’s events will be seen in their entirety in North America.

In 2009, HDNet will feature twenty-five events from Asia alone, due to the network’s partnerships with World Victory Road, DREAM, K-1, and K-1 MAX.

HDNet’s coverage will begin with World Victory Road’s Sengoku Seventh Battle at Yoyogi National Stadium Second Gymnasium on Friday, March 20. The event will feature Muhammed “King Mo” Lawal v. Ryo Kawamura in addition to the first round of a 16-man featherweight tournament.

So far, eight of the sixteen fighters in the tournament have been named. They are Hatsu Hioki, Masanori Kanehara, Tetsuya Yamada, Malron Sandro, Ronnie Ushiwaka, Chris Manuel, Nick Denis, and Jung Chan Sung.

The stars of World Victory Road include Middleweight Champion Jorge Santiago, Lightweight Champion Satoru Kitaoka, Takanori Gomi, Kazuo Misaki, Olympic Judo Gold Medalist Hidehiko Yoshida, undefeated “King Mo” Muhammed Lawal. Past events have also featured Josh Barnett, Antonio Rogerio Nogueira, Dave Herman, and Antonio Silva. Air dates and times will be announced at a later date.

Steve ‘USS’ Cunningham to face Wayne ‘Big Truck’ Braithwaite

Former cruiserweight king, Steve ‘USS’ Cunningham, is close to securing his first opponent, Guyana’s Wayne ‘Big Truck’ Braithwaite, in his quest to regain the IBF cruiserweight crown he lost, by a close split decision, to Tomasz ‘Goral’ Adamek last December.

‘USS’ Cunningham, who beat Krzysztof ‘Diablo’ Wlodarczyk to become the IBF cruiserweight champion in Katowice, Poland in May ‘07 and successfully defended it seven months later against Marco ‘Kapt’n’ Huck in Bielefeld, Germany, had been hoping to secure a quick rematch with Adamek of their December 11th “Fight of the Year” nominated classic, but after the announcement that Adamek was to face Johnathon Banks on the 27th February, at the Prudential Center in Newark, New Jersey, started to look elsewhere.

When the news came through that an opportunity to face former WBC cruiserweight champion, Wayne ‘Big Truck’ Braithwaite, was available, after BJ Flores decided against facing Braithwaite in an IBF cruiserweight title eliminator bout, ‘USS’ Cunningham could barely hide his joy as he said. “I am really looking forward to this fight. This is a fight that I expected to happen a few years ago. Wayne is a tough, strong guy. He was a great champ and I expect this to be a great fight.

So far my promoter has said that no networks are interested in this fight and that is disappointing. Wayne is an exciting fighter, former world champion, and me coming off of my last fight with Adamek and all the attention that fight got, I know the American fans would want to see this fight.

This fight is very important to me, this will put me back in line as mandatory challenger for Adamek, assuming he gets past Banks, which I hope he does. I’m going to be champ again and I want to take my title back from Adamek.”

‘USS’ Cunningham’s proposed opponent, Wayne “Big Truck” Braithwaite, became WBC champion after stopping Vincenzo Cantatore in the tenth round on the 11th October 2002 in Italy. After successfully defending his title three times he faced WBA champ Jean-Marc Mormeck in an unification match in March 2005. After twelve hard fought rounds Mormeck emerged victorious.
In 2007 Braithwaite traveled to Cardiff, Wales to challenge Enzo Maccarinelli for his WBO title. Again, after twelve action packed rounds, ‘Big Truck’ was on the losing side of a points decision.

On paper this match-up has “classic” and “thriller” stamped all over it. Two magnificent former champions locked in battle to regain their coveted number one status. Add to that their contrast in their styles, Braithwaite’s a hard punching southpaw with an impressive knockout record whereas Cunningham’s an athletic fighter with fast hands and a high punch rate. Those elements can only lead to an exciting all-action contest, if not an all out war, being on the cards. It is quite likely that this fight could be even more exciting than last December’s, “Fight of the Year” nominated, Cunningham-Adamek battle!

It is expected that the date and location of Steve ‘USS’ Cunningham vs. Wayne ‘Big Truck’ Braithwaite will be announced shortly.

NAKASH SHINES AT THE LEGENDARY BLUE HORIZON

PHILADELPHIA (February 8, 2009)-In front of a near capacity crowd, Ran Nakash emphatically blew out Ryan Carrol by scoring a second round stoppage in a scheduled eight round main event of a six bout card at The Legendary Blue Horizon.

Nakash of Haifa, Israel scored the first of three knockdowns late in round one with a big left hook to the body just before the bell rang to end the round. Carrol, of Delaware, Ohio never really recovered as Nakash was all over him and deposited Carrol on the ground two more times in round time with a left to the head and the Israeli soldier ended things with a hard uppercut that forced referee Steve Smoger to mercifully end the bout at 2:06 of round two.

Nakash is now 17-0 with thirteen knockouts.

Nakash will now go back to Israel and re-take his place in the Israeli Army

Looking just as spectacular was Nakash’s stablemate, Elad Shmouel in the co-feature.

Shmouel of Tel Aviv, Israel showed no signs of ring rust as he was coming off a fourteen month break to dispose of Khristian Garaci of Pittsburgh at 1:32 of the second round in a four round Jr. Welterweight bout.

Shmouel was his usual swarming self as he landed some vicious body attacks that Garaci had a very difficult time dealing with until a barrage of punches forced Smoger to stop the fight.

In the other six round bout, Julius Edmonds out worked Linwood Hurd to score s ix round unanimous decision in a Jr. Welterweight bout.
