East Rutherford- The fighters who will be participating in Tuesday’s Darwish Brothers Knockout Promotions boxing event weighed in on Monday at the fight venue, the Meadowlands Sheraton Hotel in East Rutherford, NJ. The entire card will be broadcast live by GoFightLive.tv throughout the world.

The ten-round main event is a competitively matched junior welterweight fight between former world champion DeMarcus “Chop Chop” Corley of Washington DC and former title challenger “El Topadora” Wilson Enrique Galli of Salto Uruguayo, Uruguay. Corley tipped the scales at a trim and ready 140.5 pounds while Galli checked in at 141.5. Neither was lacking in confidence as they faced off, taking advantage of a final opportunity to impose a mental edge over the opponent.

“I want this win bad,” Corley says. “Ever since the day that I lost my title, I’ve been on a mission to regain my belt. Galli is a tough opponent standing in my way but I’m going to do what I do best and knock this guy out.”

“I respect Corley for what he has done in his career but that is the past,” Galli says. “The only thing that matters is tomorrow and tomorrow I will be victorious.”

Cruiserweight prospect Elvin Sanchez of Paterson, NJ weighed in at 198 pounds. His adversary Charles “Sweet Chuck” Presnell of Fernley, NV by way of Masan City, South Korea weighed in at 198.5. Sanchez won the New Jersey Golden Gloves title in 2007 after being a star wrestler in high school. Sanchez is managed by the legendary Lou Duva.

In a battle of former amateur stars, Rashad Bogar of Newark, NJ weighed in at 147 pounds, while his opponent Rami Ibrahim of Philadelphia checked in at 145 pounds. Bogar had am amateur record of 79-10 and won the NJ Golden Gloves and Ohio State Fair titles. He is trained by Charlie “Dew Drop” Young at Dew Drop Boxing Club.

Ibrahim was born and raised in Kuwait of Palestinian descent but came to the United States during the Gulf War. In addition to boxing, Ibrahim is also a master in the arts of Muay Thai, Tae Kwon Do, freestyle karate, kickboxing and wrestling. His various combat sports titles include a Philadelphia Kickboxing Championship, a WKA United States Muay Thai Championhip, a USKBA International Muay Thai Championship, a Philadelphia All-Public Wrestling Championship, as well as Philadelphia Golden Gloves and Diamond Gloves titles. Ibrahim is ranked number 3 in the world in Muay Thai.

William Gill of Toms River, NJ weighed in at 183 while his opponent Chuck Berry of Philadelphia weighed in at 204. Gill is known as one of the toughest boxers in the Northeast, rarely being involved in a boring fight. In his pro debut Gill upset 3-0 local favorite Bobby Rooney. Gill also holds a win over 1996 US Olympian Dante Craig and came within a punch of knockout out Jaidon Codrington in his last outing which was televised on Versus.

Omar Brito of Pleasantville, NJ weighed in at 135 pound while his opponent Hector Rivera of Ft. Lauderdale, FL weighed in at 134.

New Era Fighting’s KIMO offers to rescue CSAC

IRVINE, California (February 2, 2008) – In New Era Fighting’s (NEF) continuing efforts to help clean-up the mixed-martial-arts industry, combat fighting legend and the face of NEF, KIMO Leopoldo, has decided that he is in the best position to fulfill the Executive Office Position of the California State Athletic Commission.

Keeping in tune with President Obama’s call for much needed change, KIMO formally applied for the CSAC job last week. “There are so many areas of the CSAC that needs more organization including simple things that most people do in their everyday lives. For example, providing promoters with receipts on CSAC letterhead would be a good start. From my past experiences, the CSAC had its receipts written on any old receipt book that you can buy at CVS. That’s certainly no way to be accountable. Additionally, I want to make things fairer and more reasonable for all members of the MMA and boxing industry. I believe there should be a cut-off date for fighters to register to fight, in order to properly allow for reviewing of medicals and proper analysis, as opposed to making last minute changes that has unfortunately been the case in the recent past.

“I am fully dedicated to my sport and all related sports regulated by the CSAC. Everyone is free to read my application letter (attached here). MMA is in a fragile state in California and it needs guidance. I have had my ups and downs in this industry but, overall, I have 14 valuable years of real life experience in MMA and Kickboxing that nobody can take away from me. Arnold Swartzenagger became Governor of California with little or no experience managing in the political arena. Like Arnold, I’ve never claimed to be a saint. However, unlike Arnold, I already have extensive experience for the position I have applied for. I think Governor Swartzenagger is doing a good job and I hope to follow in his path.”

BACKYARD BRAWL IN THE CENTRAL VALLEY

On March 7, 2009 PureCombat will be brawlin’ at the International Agri-Center in Tulare CA. Home of the largest agricultural show in the world and for one night will be the battlegrounds for PureCombat 7, Backyard Brawl. Most of the combatants will be from areas within a 100 mile radius and are ready to claim their territory.

For the Main Event of the night it will be Jason “The Live Wire” Von Flue vs Steve “Dangerous” Ramirez. Jason we all know is a veteran from the Ultimate Fighter Season 2 and has a 13-11-1 record after entering the cage with such athletes as Brett Cooper, Luke Stewart, Cung Lee, Joe Riggs, Luke Cummo and Mac Danzig. Jason’s opponent trains out of The Island in Visalia CA and has a record of 6-4. Even though Steve is from a small town he has competed against such big names as Erik Apple and Kyacey Uscola. Each fighter is preparing for a big night and each of them needing to add this win to their record.

Co-Main Event of the night are with some very well known opponents…Mike Cook from Visalia CA vs Carter Williams out of Modesto CA will meet as Heavy Weights as they certainly will be striking and kicking their way to the finish. Mike “The Animal” Cook trains out of Samurai Dojo in Exeter under the tutelage of Scott Harper and also trains with Frank Shamrock at the Shamrock Martial Arts Academy in San Jose. Mike participated in a reality TV show on BET called Iron Rings in which he emerged the final victor. Mike will have more on his hands than ever though as he takes on Carter “The Beast” Williams. Carter is from K-1 Kick Boxing fame and won the 2003 K-1 Grand Prix Championship in Japan with a second round knockout over Bjorn Bregy. Carter has notable wins against Charlid “Die Faust, Nobu Hayashi, Big Daddy Gary Goodrich, Dewey Cooper, Michael McDonald and Rick Roofus in the K-1 as well as a kickboxing win over PureCombat veteran, Scott Lighty.

On the card also is John “The Wild Child” Reedy coming in on a 4 fight winning streak and going up against Preston Scharf. John is a PureCombat veteran who fought Dominique ‘The Fallen Angel” Robinson to a decision December 1, 2007. John is equally good on the ground and on his feet and can mean trouble for anyone that meets him in the cage. But John will definitely have one of his toughest opponents yet in Preston Scharf. Preston holds a win over Cleber Lucianno, founder of the Cleber BJJ Academies and first place winner of the Black Belt Division in the 2006 World Championships of Brazilian Jiu Jitsu held in Rio De Janeiro, Brazil.

For another big fight of the night we’ve got a Central California favorite Jesse Bowen from STACT House in Merced fighting Maurice Eazel from Antonio McKee’s school, The Body Shop. Jesse is another veteran fighter of PureCombat and this will make it number 4. Jesse is extremely talented wrestler and can stand and bang too. Jesse has proven to have all the gas needed to go all the way to the end as well as impossible to Knock Out. Maurice also has a lot of talent and is well rounded but with a trainer like Antonio McKee with a record of 21-3 and a submission master, Jesse is definitely being taken out to deep water with this fight. I would be looking for the Best Submission of the Night and one of these guys earning that $500 bonus check.

With another Central Valley son, Josh Herrick on the card ready to fight Zach Trammell and keep his winning streak going. Josh is 3-0 and trains at Elite MMA in Visalia, a Cleber BJJ Academy. Zach Trammell trains at Elite Combat in Lodi CA and was a state wrestler. Zach 3-1, brings heavy hands and his extremely good ground game to this fight. Both of these fighters have a lot to hang on to..their winning records.

Other bouts on the card are Chad Sutton vs Eli Moreno, Joe Morales vs Carlos De Soto, Mike Craddock vs Hector Alartorre, Ben Holscher vs Tim Denham, Dan Pinedo vs TBD, Nikk Covert vs Joe Rojas, Darren Crisp vs Isaiah Hill and Alejandro Bautista vs Rico Altamirano.

Come out March 7 to the International Agri-Center in Tulare CA located in the Central Valley just 1 hour north of Bakersfield. It’s a big night of fights and fun for all ages.
