Home from Iraq- All I can say is WOW! The US Military is a huge machine filled with some incredible people. Talented men and women who are now competing in combative’s, akin to Russian Sombo or jacket wrestling. I’ve missed the Brute Adidas Studios but would not have missed the opportunity to entertain the troops at any one of the F.O.B.’s. to witness first hand the work being done by our men and women. A special thank you to the US Army’s Capt. Schrock and the men of his command in the Army Airborne at Camp Liberty. I will be posting pictures of this event and tour soon.

Michael Doyle-HD Coach of Independence HS (Iowa) Graduated from West Delaware HS in 1991. We won state duals and the Iowa State HS Tournament in 1991. Michael went to Wartburg College and was a 3 time all American and academic All American. Since moving to Independence in 1995 they have placed 6 times in the top 10 winning in 1996 and placed 3rd in 2005. They have gone to the state duals 4 times winning in 1997. They’ve won 20 or more duals the last 3 years. West Delaware compete in a 16 team wamac conference. I have really awesome assistant coaches too!

Doc Bauer- Author of Wrestling: A Boys First Book joins us to discuss his successful publication and to answer why every home should have a copy of this delightful read.

Dallas Bailey- TDR’s Wrestler of the Month for October. Dallas is a senior at Catoosa High School, just outside Tulsa, OK. He is a three time Oklahoma state champ, with two undefeated seasons. He carries a 4.0 grade average, placed third in the State Academic Bowl, is a member of the National Honor Society and the Catoosa Student Council. Dallas completed much of his required high school course work in his Junior year and is currently enrolled in concurrent college courses where he has received six credit hours. This is a young man that’s going to really bring something to the table for a yet to be named college wrestling team.

Kim Couture- Randy Couture will fight for the UFC heavyweight title on Nov. 15. Less than one week later, his wife Kim will follow him into the cage, making her Strikeforce debut against Lina Kvokov on Nov. 21. The fight will take place at the HP Pavilion in San Jose, Calif., on the undercard of Strikeforce: Destruction. The 32-year-old Kim Couture lost a unanimous decision in her pro debut in June, dropping a fight to Kim Rose. Despite the loss, Couture earned a lot of respect around the MMA world for her toughness, fighting nearly the entire match after breaking her jaw early in the first round.

IBF super middleweight world title fight Saturday on PPV live from Germany

BAMBERG, Germany (November 5, 2008) – Challenger Raul “El Diamente” Marquez vowed once again at today’s press conference in Germany to shock the boxing world when he fights unbeaten International Boxing Federation middleweight champion “King” Arthur Abraham on Saturday at Jako Arena in Bamberg, Germany.

Abraham-Marquez is promoted by Wilfried Sauerland, presented by Sauerland Event and its Managing Director, Christian Meyer, in association with Seminole Warriors Boxing. The broadcast is being distributed in the United States and Canada by Integrated Sports for live viewing in English and Spanish at 3 PM/ET – 12 PM/PT on both cable and satellite pay-per-view via iN Demand, TVN, DISH Network, Viewer’s Choice Canada, and Bell ExpressVue, for a suggested retail price of only $24.95. iN Demand will show a replay the following day (Sunday, Nov. 9) at 2 PM/ET. Al Bernstein and Nick Charles will call the action.

Abraham-Marquez, originally scheduled October 4, was postponed due to Abraham’s sudden illness on the day of the fight.

“I’m confident and feel better than I did the last time,” Marquez said. “I’m going to shock the boxing world on Saturday. His trainer (Ulli Wegner) said that they have a lot of respect for me and that Abraham was sick. They’re looking forward to a tough fight against a veteran with a lot of experience. As a fighter, I respect Abraham but, sick or not, I still would have gone along with the fight. We’re good sportsmen and after the fight we’ll be friends.”

Abraham (27-0, 22 KOs), rated No. 2 by The Ring and ESPN, captured the IBF middleweight title nearly three years ago by way of a fifth-round knockout of Kingsley Ikeke (23-1). Seven successful title defenses have followed against Miranda, Shannon Taylor, Kofi Jantuah, Sebastian Demers, Khoren Gevor, Wayne Elcock and Elvin Ayala.

The 37-year-old Marquez (41-3-1, 29 KOs), rated No. 2 (No. 1 unrated) by the IBF as well as No. 8 by The Ring and No. 9 by ESPN, earned his title shot against Abraham by defeating previously unbeaten No. 1 contender Giovanni Lorenzo (26-0) in their June 21st IBF title eliminator. Marquez, fighting out of Houston, was a 1992 U.S. Olympian who was the IBF junior middleweight title-holder in 1997.

The 10-round co-feature on the PPV show from Germany finds former NABO champion and “The Next Great Champ” reality television winner, Otis “Triple OG” Griffin (19-3-2, 7 KOs), of Sacramento, fighting Yugoslavian-born Enad Licina (14-1, 8 KOs), now living in Germany, for the vacant IBF Intercontinental cruiserweight belt.

IBF Cruiserweight World Boxing Champion, Steve ‘USS’ Cunningham will be taking some time out from training camp and preparations for his upcoming title defense to honor his fellow servicemen, past and present, by taking part in the annual New York City Veterans Day Parade on Tuesday 11th November 2008.

Cunningham, who defends his crown against former WBO light heavyweight world champion, Tomasz ‘Goral’ Adamek, at the Prudential Center in Newark, New Jersey, exactly one calendar month later, on Thursday, December, 11th, 2008, started his boxing career whilst in the Navy and he firmly believes that the disciplines he learned whilst serving as an aircraft refueler
aboard the USS America and the USS Enterprise in the mid ‘90s, were the springboard to his success as a professional prize fighter.

A rightly proud Cunningham said, “Being in the parade is a true honor. I served four years in the Navy. I know what it means, you know, the recognition given to people who, like me, served their country. I feel privileged to be taking part and while doing so will be remembering those heroic men and women that will not be there, those who were killed fighting in the wars, as well as honoring those that are. This parade is the largest of its kind in the nation, providing an opportunity for New Yorkers and visitors from across America and around the world to honor those who have preserved our freedoms.

The theme for 2008, “Legacy of Honor,” pays tribute to veterans of all eras, and also serves to welcome home the Intrepid Sea, Air & Space Museum.

The New York City Veterans Day Parade features over 20,000 participants, including veterans of all eras, active duty military, ROTC and JrROTC units, civic and youth groups, all accompanied by music performed by a dozen of our nation’s best high school marching bands.

Floats, military and vintage vehicles and other special contingents add to the spectacle and excitement of the parade, which is viewed by over 400,000 spectators. The parade route is approximately 1.5 miles, and takes 30-40 minutes to complete.

December 5th marks The Legendary Blue Horizon’s “Annual Holiday Show”.

Nakash of Haifa, Israel has an undefeated record of 15-0 with eleven big knockouts and his become a favorite at The Legendary Blue Horizon. Nakash will be making seveth appearance at The Legendary Blue Horizon as he amassed six straight wins with the last three coming in the form of a vicious knockout.

In his last bout, Nakash scored his the most impressive win of his career when he took care of the highly regarded Larry Robinson in just fifty seconds on September 12th .

Jolly of Adrian, Michigan has a record of 8-9-1 with four knockouts has been in with some of the best Heavyweights & Cruiserweights and his beaten his share of undefeated fighters, so he won’t be an awe of the undefeated slugger from Israel.

Jolly has scored wins over three undefeated fighters and held the highly regarded (and undefeated at the time) Aaron Williams to a draw.

Jolly will have a six inch height advantage over Nakash. Jolly has been in the ring with notables such as Joey Abell, Zuri Lawrence, Alfredo Escalera Jr.and is coming off a Unanimous decision over William Bailey on September 25th.

In the co-feature, rising Jr. Welterweight Steve Upsher Chambers will look for his fifteenth consecutive victory when he takes on an opponent to be named.

Chambers, 23 has a record of 18-1-1 with five knockouts.

Undefeated Light heavyweight Ben Foust will make his Legendary Blue Horizon debut in a six round bout. Foust of Jacksboro, Tennessee has racked up a record of 11-0 with ten knockouts. Foust will fight an opponent to be named.

December 5th also marls The Legendary Blue Horizon return of Jules Blackwell. Blackwell, of Phoenixville, Pa has a record of 8-1-2 with three knockouts and he will be making his ninth appearance at The Legendary Blue Horizon.

Blackwell is coming off a first round knockout over Javier Dennis on September 26th at The Legendary Blue Horizon.

Blackwell will be taking on durable Dareell Martin of Baltiomore. Martin has a record of 3-6 and will be making his fourth appearance at The Legendary Blue Horizon. Martin will be looking to build on his unanimous decision victory over Andre Nichold this past October 18th in Springfield, Va.

John Goldwire of Philadelphia will try to improve on his winning debut at The Legendary Blue Horizon last April when he battles John Pawlowski (1-1-1, 1 KO) in a four round Welterweight bout.

The exciting style of Julius Edmonds of Philadelphia will look to even up his record (2-3) when he takes on Michael Weaver (2-2-1). Weaver of Philadelphis is the only man to defeat Steve Chambers.

In a battle of debuting Middleweights, John Turner of Philadelphia will take on Joey Aquaru.

Rounding out the card will be the return of Lightweight prospect, Luis Castro (3-0, 1 KO) in a four round fight. Castro won his first two fights at The Legendary Blue Horizon

The World Boxing Council completed the second day of its 46th annual convention in Chengdu on Tuesday.

At yesterday’s general assembly meeting, WBC President Dr. José Sulaimán expressed his thoughts to the WBC Board of Governors regarding today’s election of WBC officers. He said, “I am a firm believer that everything in life turns around cycles. A cycle that begins today must end at some specific time someday. Only those that retire at the precise time of the end of their cycle are the ones that can live with pride for the rest of their lives by having left a mark of their passing through life for future generations, while others that stubbornly have intended to go over that end of their cycle have ended their lives with repulsion and rejection of their generation, tarnishing their image, which had been in the past an example to follow.

“I do not want to go over the end of my cycle, as I want to retire at the right time to feel that I have left many friends behind who think of me as a good man who did his best in the best way that he could. I do not and cannot know if I have come to the end of my cycle, so I will be leaving in your hands the resolution for my near future with the WBC, with my sincere begging to sincerely decide what is best for the organization, which I will continue to serve with the most profound feeling of love and loyalty regardless or my position as the WBC must continue growing with untouchable integrity for the betterment of the sport the we love, regardless of who is, and who will come in the future as its leader.

“The last five years have been the most heart suffering of my life, as a court of law blasted us with the most unfair and biased ruling, just as a court of backruptcy did; the kidnapping of my very close and dearest niece; the medical finding of a deadly disease that, thank God, I have overcome; the passing away of two of the closest and dearest friends of my life, and the financial crisis of the WBC for some of the mentioned reasons. But at the same time, I found that the unanimous solidarity of all of you, my boxing friends, as well as those who have come close to give me warmth and concern, all who have propelled me to continue with more determination and perserverance than ever, to be worthy of the leadership that you have entrusted me in the past.”

Today, officers of each of the 10 Continental Federations voiced their unanimous support for another four-year term for Dr. Sulaiman. General Kovid Bhakdibhumi of Thailand, president of the Asian Boxing Council, made the nomination and Dr. Sulaiman was re-elected by acclamation.

Six WBC vice presidents were reelected unanimously: General Bhakdibhumi, Charles Giles of Great Britain, Houcine Houchi of Tunisia, Edmund Lipinski of Russia, Chul Kee Kim of Korea, and Roy Van Putten of Aruba. Two WBC vice president positions were vacant, and Rex Walker of the United States and Bob Logist of Belgium were unanimously elected. Eric Buhain of the Philippines was elected vice president at large.

Other WBC officers who were reelected were treasurer Juan Sanchez of the United States; secretary general Gabriel Penagaricano of Puerto Rico; legal counselor Robert Lenhardt of the United States; international secretaries Mauro Betti of Italy, Frank Quill of Australia, Willibald Pallatin of Austria, Antonio Martin Galan of Spain, and Edward Thangarajah of Thailand; general counselor at large Avel Gonzalez of the United States; promoters representative Salvatore Cherchi of Italy; and managers representative Don Majeski of the United States.

The 47th annual WBC convention in 2009 will be held in Jeju, Korea. Mexico was approved as the site of the convention in 2010, with the city to be determined. Mexico City, Puebla, and Cancun are possibilities.

Two pilot programs that have been used with success in several countries were approved as formal WBC rules: video replay, in certain instances during the minute rest period following a round, and open scoring, with the scores announced after the fourth and eighth rounds. In WBC female fights, the open scoring rule will be used after the third and sixth rounds in eight-round regional title fights, and after the fourth and seventh rounds in 10-round world championship fights.

WBC super lightweight world champion Timothy Bradley Jr. of the United States attended Tuesday’s general assembly meeting. WBC heavyweight world champion Vitali Klitschko of Ukraine, former WBC featherweight and super featherweight world champion Marco Antonio Barrera of Mexico, WBC interim strawweight world champion Juan Palacios of Nicaragua, and WBC number one-ranked super lightweight contender Devon Alexander of the United States attended the opening ceremonies on Monday.

George Foreman and Thomas Hearns were elected to the WBC Hall of Fame. Joey Giardello was elected posthumously.

Promoters who have already arrived in Chengdu include Don King, Gary Shaw, Eric Gomez of Golden Boy Promotions, Dino Duva, Brad Jacobs of Star Boxing, Alex Camponova of Thompson Promotions, Sampson Lewcowicz, and Sean Gibbons of Sycuan Promotions from the United States; Salvatore Cherchi of Italy; Akihiko Honda of Japan; Frank Maloney of England; Dietmar Poszwa of Universum and Ahmet Oner of Arena-Box Promotions from Germany; Alexandra Croft of GYM from Canada; Andrew Wasilewski of Poland; Liu Gang of China; Bebot Elorde of the Philippines; Mr. Virat, Mr. Singwancha, Mr. Toomkit, and Mr. Nakonluang of Thailand; Chris Ganesco of Gankor Promotions of Romania; Harry Gorian of Croatia; and Mr. Bustos of Argentina.

WBC heavyweight world champion Vitali Klitschko attended the opening day ceremonies on Monday and addressed the assembly. He said, “Dear ladies and gentlemen, dear representatives of government of China, dear Governors, dear friends, and of course, dear Don José Sulaimán, I am very happy to be here in China, the second time of this year after Olympic Games, where China showed the great performance of their boxers just a couple of months ago. I’m sure that China has great potential for professional boxers, and I’m sure that in the next couple of years we’ll announce new professional world champions from China.

“I want to explain to you that I stand on this stage not as sportsman – I stand on this stage the same time as promoter. I want to explain to you some interesting story, a very short story, I take a couple of minutes of your time. But this story is very important.

“I remember the words of José Sulaimán, who told many times his main point in boxing is not the promoters, not managers, the main person in boxing is the sportsman, and we have to never forget that. The story is not secret – professional boxing is mixed between sport and business. And it’s very important to never forget the interest of sportsmen.

“Right now, I’ll be explaining to you as a sportsman some short story. Many know I lose my title couple of years ago. Not in the fight – I take an injury, and I don’t want to hold up the heavyweight division. I give my title back to WBC and made the way free for other boxers. And I’m very appreciate for José Sulaimán, who gave me the status, ‘Emeritus Champion,’ because I don’t lose my title. This was time of injuries, but I recover. I recover, and one and a half years ago I talk to president of WBC to give me chance to use my title to fight directly for world championship.

“I’m very appreciate that the WBC agreed and gave me the chance. I want to make one more fight in preparation period, to be in good shape – Jameel McCline. Just 10 days before the fight, I take an injury – slip of the disk and immediately I need surgery.

“I understand this business. I understand it’s many people skeptical and make the pressure – ‘The guy want to come and make the money, he’s old, have a lot of injuries.’ But I am very appreciate Don Jose. You tell, ‘I give my word and I keep my word.’

“I need one more year for recovering after surgery and I take a chance to fight against strongest one, heavyweight Samuel Peter. He have great record, big puncher. I told to WBC, ‘I am ready to fight against everyone.’ I know my skills and I take a chance to fight. I show good performance, I won this fight and I take WBC title back to me.

“The story is not interesting without the end. You can win the title, you can lose the title. You can win the belt many times, and you can lose the belt. But most important point, you can’t win or lose your reputation – keep your word and go always straight.

“That’s why I want to thank for Don Jose, for all representatives for WBC – you keep your word, you go straight, and you support interest for sportsman. I try to keep for as long as possible WBC title. Never lose reputation of WBC. Thank you very much.”

WILLIAMS V SOSNOWSKI TO HEADLINE NOVEMBER 8TH

Danny Williams will be joint top of an explosive bill that promises fireworks when he collides with Albert Sosnowski in an international heavyweight bout at the York Hall in Bethnal Green on Saturday, November 8th 2008.

Williams is part of the second show from Hennessy Sports that will be screened by ITV Sport following the knockout success last month of Jon Thaxton’s European Lightweight Title win.

Former world title challenger Williams (Brixton) faces Poland’s Albert Sosnowski over ten rounds following the withdrawal of John McDermott from a British heavyweight title fight that was scheduled to feature on the show.

Sosnowski has a formidable record of stopping 26 opponents in 45 fights with just two defeats and is a strong opponent for British heavyweight champion Williams.

Junior Witter (Bradford) will also have his first fight since losing the prestigious WBC World Light-Welterweight Title in May on the same bill against an opponent yet to be finalised.

Former British Light-Welterweight champion Lenny Daws (Carshalton), Colchester knockout artist Lee Purdy, title hopeful Gareth Couch (High Wycombe), Belfast boxer Kevin O’Hara as well as unbeaten duo Steve O’Meara (Wembley) and Dwayne Lewis (Canning Town) make up a cracking bill that promises fireworks.

The action will be screened live by ITV4.
