UFC Parent Company & Star Fighters Sue New York State
Posted on | November 15, 2011 | No Comments
By: Rich Bergeron
The UFC’s parent company ZUFFA, LLC filed a formal lawsuit against New York State Tuesday, November 15th, 2011. The complaint below outlines the complicated history of the state’s ban on professional MMA and explains why the sport should be protected by the First Amendment. Though it spans 123 pages, the filing is surprisingly reader-friendly and does not spend too much time framing the argument in hard-to-grasp legal terminology. As promising as the case may sound, though, the lack of other organizations and their fighters being named as plaintiffs might be a fatal flaw. The potential for other athletes and athletic organizations to sue citing the same grounds for relief could also lead to the case being thrown out of court. The legal precedent it could set may have a sweeping impact on the ongoing lockout issues confronting the NBA right now and the labor issues facing the NHL in the near future. A veritable explosion of litigation could ensue if this case generates any major momentum. Stay tuned to Fight News Unlimited for updates as the case continues.

Gunn Puts Bareknuckle Title On Line December 1 In Philadelphia
Posted on | November 15, 2011 | No Comments
Team Gunn announced today that bareknuckle heavyweight champion of the world Bobby “The Celtic Warrior” Gunn will fight Ernest Jackson on December 1 in Philadelphia. This will be Gunn’s first title defense since beating Richard Stewart in Arizona this summer. Jackson is a former bodyguard and a well-known bareknuckle fighter, but Gunn expects to make easy work of the younger fighter.
“Ernest Jackson came to me and challenged me for my title,” said Bobby Gunn. “This is a business where money talks and he brought the money to the table and the intent to fight. He will be a good tune-up fight in preparation for my fight with James Quinn in February.”
Gunn is a former IBA world cruiserweight champion and a bareknuckle fighter with an unblemished record of 65-0. He has established himself as a legendary bareknuckle fighter, and upon having the chance to fight for the vacant world title, he jumped on the opportunity.
“I left boxing because of the corruption and politics surrounding the sport,” said Gunn. “Bareknuckle fighting has been a part of my life since I was a kid, and I believe the sport will take off and become as mainstream as gloved boxing and MMA. With the reemergence of bareknuckle fighting, we have a chance to start with a fresh slate and make it a clean sport from the beginning.”
Since his fight in August Gunn has remained active as he patiently waited for an offer to come across. As discussions with Tank Abbott’s team fell through, Gunn became anxious to get back to business.
“I’m a fighter, and I been itching to get back in there,” said Gunn. “From what I have heard Jackson is a good fighter and a tough kid and I’m happy to give him a shot.”
Team Gunn stated that although the fight will not be televised live, it will be available online immediately following the bout.
The fight will take place at an undisclosed location and will be by invite only, but for more information on everything Team Gunn visit https://www.facebook.com/

Posted on | November 15, 2011 | No Comments
CHICAGO, Ill. (November 15, 2011) — In a continuing effort to scout and sign the world’s best talent, Bellator Fighting Championships has signed highly-touted Russian striker Vyacheslav Vasilevsky.
Vasilevsky joins Bellator after an incredibly successful career in Russia where “Slava” compiled a dominating 15-1 record. Currently riding a 14-fight win streak, the 23-year-old prodigy will be fighting at middleweight in the Bellator cage. The two-time Sambo World Champion andK-Dojo product has had success at light heavyweight but feels at home at 185 pounds and immediately adds more world-class depth to the Bellator middleweight roster.
“This opportunity means the world to me,” Vasilevsky said. “I’m really excited for the opportunity. I felt like I’ve conquered the Russian scene, and I’m ready to compete against some of the best in the world with Bellator. They have some great middleweights, and I want to test my skills against them as soon as I can.”
“We’ve had tremendous success in the international market acquiring many of the world’s best fighters,” said Bellator Chairman & CEO Bjorn Rebney. “Vyacheslav is a world class fighter we’ve had our eye on for quite some time and he will make a tremendous impact on our middleweight roster.”

Williams Backs Conquest To Win Southern Area Title This Friday
Posted on | November 15, 2011 | No Comments
By: Gianluca (Rio) Di Caro
This coming Friday Romford’s hot Cruiserweight prospect Tony ‘Conqueror’ Conquest gets his first shot at a Championship title, when he faces Chalk Farm’s former World ranked star Toks Owoh for the vacant BBBofC Southern Area Cruiserweight title, at Francis and George Warren’s Queensberry Promotions event at York Hall in Bethnal Green on Friday, 18th November – which will also broadcast live on BoxNation (Sky platform channel 456)
The outcome of Friday’s showdown between Conquest and Owoh is very much of interest to new British Cruiserweight Champion Leon ‘Solid’ Williams, not just because it’s for the belt he vacated just a few weeks ago – in order to challenge, and beat, long time champ Rob Norton for his coveted Lonsdale belt – but because whoever wins this intriguing battle, between a wily old fox and the new kid on the block, will be his next opponent early in 2012.
Following a training session at the TRAD TKO Boxing Gym in Canning Town, a relaxed Williams said, “I see Tony Conquest beating Toks comfortably, he’s got good movement, good footwork and good work rate, Toks wont be able to get near him.
Tony’s a young man, twelve years younger than Toks, and he’s on the way up.
The same can’t be said for Toks, he’s thirty nine years old and really doesn’t have anywhere to go.
Don’t get me wrong, he was a world class fighter in his day, at Super Middle, but just hasn’t shined as a Cruiser, he’s a shadow of that guy who earned a World title shot at the turn of this century.
Tony’s unbeaten in seven and is determined to make his mark as a pro. He’ll be well prepared for anything Toks can bring on the night.
Basically, I’m sure it will be Tony that’ll win and will be fighting me in January. That’ll be a great fight for the fans.
Tony’s a good friend of mine but it’s a fight, it’s business and I’ve got to do what I’ve got to do and he’s got to do what he’s got to do.
Hopefully we’ll keep our friendship afterwards, but during the fight it’s a fight, nuff said.”
Tony Conquest versus Toks Owoh for the vacant BBBofC Southern Area Cruiserweight title features on Francis and George Warren’s Queensberry promotion event, headlined by Enzo Maccarinelli versus Gyorgy Marosi, which takes place at the York Hall in Bethnal Green, and broadcast live on BoxNation (Sky Platform Ch. 456), on Friday the 18th November 2011.
Tickets, priced £60 (Ringside) and £40 (Standard Seated), are available now on-line at www.tkoboxoffice.com or from the TRAD TKO Boxing Gym, Gillian House, Stephenson Street, Canning Town, London E16 4SA
