QUEBEC CITY, CANADA (Nov. 4, 2011) – In front of hundreds of spirited onlookers at Laurier Quebec Place, International Boxing Federation (IBF) super middleweight champion Lucian Bute weighed in at 167.5 pounds while title challenger and ageless wonder Glen “The Road Warrior” Johnson tipped the scales at 166.5 pounds, just one day before their SHOWTIME CHAMPIONSHIP BOXING showdown from Pepsi Coliseum in Quebec City on Saturday, Nov. 5, live on SHOWTIME^® (9 p.m. ET/PT, delayed on the West Coast).

 

Both fighters in the 12-round co-feature also made weight. Rising Canadian star Pier-Olivier Côté (17-0, 11 KOs), ofQuebec City, weighed in at the junior welterweight limit of 140 pounds. His opponent Jorge Luis Teron (25-2-1, 17 KOs), of the Bronx, New York, weighed in at 139.25 pounds.

 

One of the largest box office draws in boxing, the undefeated, Romanian-born Bute will enter the ring with an unblemished record of 29-0 with 24 KOs.  Bute has registered knockouts in seven of his eight title defenses and has only gone the distance five times in his professional career.   

 

Johnson (51-15-2, 35 KOs), a legend for his bouts against Roy Jones Jr., Bernard Hopkins and Antonio Tarver, will make his 10^th appearance in a world title fight. The 42-year-old Jamaican-born Johnson has fought out of Miamifor almost two decades.  The former world champ, who earned the nickname “The Road Warrior” for never shying away from challenging an opponent on his home turf, will once again travel to enemy territory for a shot at a championship. 

 

The winner of Bute-Johnson could likely meet the winner of the Super Six World Boxing Classic, which concludes on Saturday, Dec. 17, on SHOWTIME. World champions Andre Ward (World Boxing Association) and Carl Froch(World Boxing Council) will clash in the Final of the Super Six in a showdown that will determine the world’s best 168-pound fighter.

(LEON- Nov. 4) Chris “The Nightmare” Arreola (33-2, 28 KOs) and Ralph “The Silencer” Butler (35-11, 28 KOs) took to the scales Friday afternoon to weigh in for their highly anticipated fight tomorrow night at El Domo De La Feria in Leon, Guanajuato, Mexico.  The heavyweight attraction is headlining a night of fights brought to you by Goossen Tutor Promotions and Promociones Del Pueblo and will be broadcast on Televisa at 10:30 p.m. CT.

“I’m excited to fight in Leon,” said Arreola. “I expect a hard fight from Butler, but at the end of the night my hand will be raised in victory. The people down here have shown so much support, I’m definitely going to put on a good show for them tomorrow night.”

As for his opponent, Butler says, “I’m ready for war. The people of Leon deserve to see a great fight, and at the end I’ll be left standing.”

Bellator Returns to Canada’s Casino Rama with Loaded Fight Night Saturday November 12th

Next Bellator Middleweight and Welterweight title contenders will be decided

CHICAGO, Ill. (November 4, 2011) — Bellator Fighting Championships makes its return to Canada on Saturday, November 12th as the promotion hosts Bellator 57 from Casino Rama LIVE on MTV2, and in commercial-free HD on EPIX2 with two full hours of preliminary fights streamed live and in HD on Spike.com. In a night filled with high-stakes fights, Ben Saunders takes on Douglas Lima in the Welterweight Tournament Finals, while Alexander Shlemenko will battle Vitor Vianna for a $100,000 and a guaranteed title shot against current Bellator Middleweight Champion Hector Lombard. The action begins at 5 p.m. ET with a stacked undercard streaming LIVE and FREE around the globe on Spike.com, including a number of fighters looking to impress the Ontario crowd.

Promising featherweight prospect Alexandre “Popo” Bezerra will have his eyes on his seventh straight victory when he battles UFC veteran and Alaska native Doug Evans. A Brazilian jiu-jitsu brown belt under the renowned Roberto Godoi, Bezerra moved to the States to become a trainer at Daddis Fight Camps in Philadelphia and New Jersey. Known by his teammates and fans simply as “Popo,” Bezerra is 3-0 with Bellator and has finished his opponents in all three of his victories.

Denis Puric, who calls Ohsweken home, will be in action against Windsor native Chuck Mady in a bantamweight feature. Mady has finished all five of his victories, and will be looking to make it six with a victory over Puric.

Lightweights collide as Josh Shockley will take on Bellator newcomer Eric Moon. Shockley has his sights set on collecting his first Bellator victory after falling to hands of long-time Bellator veteran Toby Imada at Bellator 36. Shockley was a last-minute addition to the Season 4 Lightweight Tournament and is eager to get back into the cage.

Two Canadian born lightweights meet when Orillia’s own Mike Sledzion battles Taylor Solomon, who calls Ohsweken home.

Washington, DC (November 4). “Capital Showdown: Khan vs. Peterson” just got more exciting with the announcement that undefeated American heavyweight Seth “Mayhem” Mitchell will make his HBO debut against tough contender Timur Ibragimov in the co-featured bout to the Unified Super Lightweight World Championship between champion Amir “King” Khan and No. 1-rated IBF Contender and Washington, DC’s own Lamont Peterson. The event, which marks the return of big time boxing to the nation’s capital, is set to take place Saturday, Dec. 10 at the Walter E. Washington Convention Center and will be televised live on HBO’s World Championship Boxing.

 

“I’m definitely excited to be fighting back at home in front of my fans and on a big stage as the co-main event on HBO,” said Mitchell. “Ibragimov is my toughest opponent yet on paper, as far as his record and the quality of opposition that he has faced.
