“PUNK PAYBACK” STARRING FORMER UFC HEAVYWEIGHT CHAMPION BAS RUTTEN PREMIERES THIS WEDNESDAY NIGHT ON FUEL TV
Posted on | October 31, 2011 | No Comments
LOS ANGELES, CA (Oct. 31, 2011) – FUEL TV (www.fuel.tv) announces the premiere of “Punk Payback” with Bas Rutten this Wednesday, November 2nd at 9:30pm ET / PT. “Punk Payback” stars the ever-charismatic Bas Rutten, former UFC Heavyweight Champion and three-time King of Pancrase World Champion, teaching FUEL TV viewers how to defend themselves in real life dangerous situations. The series is produced by Brentwood Communications International, Inc. (BCII).
Approaching serious subject matters in humorous ways, “Punk Payback” with Bas Rutten showcases combat moves that can help viewers avoid being “punked” on the street. Using real surveillance footage of frightening events such as people getting carjacked or held up in a convenience store, Rutten mixes in reenactments to offer tips on how to get out of these tenuous situations. His specialized fighting skills, combined with his amusing personality, make for a uniquely educational and entertaining self-defense show.
“Bas Rutten is one of the most charismatic characters I’ve ever met and he can fill up a TV screen all by himself,” says George Greenberg, FUEL TV Executive Vice President and GM. “We’re happy to bring him to FUEL TV with this exciting and fun show that mixes humor into educational survival situations. If a punk starts it, rest assured, Bas will finish it every time.”
“You won’t see a show like this anywhere else on television,” says Bud Brutsman, BCII CEO and Executive Producer. “Bas addresses some serious topics in this fast-paced series. But he’ll have fun with the situations as well.”

HDNET’S “INSIDE MMA”: CONDIT DID NOT STEP ASIDE FROM TITLE SHOT
Posted on | October 31, 2011 | No Comments
Condit’s manager releases exclusive statement on tonight’s broadcast
DALLAS (October 31, 2011) In a special “Inside MMA” – live from the Lemp Brewery in St. Louis, MO – Malki Kawa, president of First Round Management and the agent for Carlos Condit, released this exclusive statement about Condit’s recent situation with the UFC:
“We are obviously disappointed in the UFC’s decision to cancel its commitment with Carlos Condit to give another fighter an opportunity at the Welterweight title based on emotional reactions from UFC 137. Contrary to what has been stated, Carlos did not step aside to allow this to happen, and would not just hand over an opportunity for him to achieve his greatest career goal, one that he has earned through his strong performances in the Octagon. No option was given to him.
For the second time in less than two weeks, Carlos has had an opportunity swept out from beneath his feet. He has shown nothing but pure class in his drive to the title, and will continue to do so. Carlos does not need motivation to fight for the title, he already has it.
This situation will only motivate Carlos more. He will move forward and continue to train at the level that has made him the legitimate number one contender for the UFC Welterweight championship, and he is looking forward to the opportunity to earn that title.”

Ouachita officials dedicate Hatcher Wrestling Complex

ARKADELPHIA—Ouachita Baptist University officials unveiled the Hatcher Wrestling Complex, the new home of the Ouachita Tiger Wrestling Program, during an Oct. 27 dedication and open house. Tiger Wrestling, which debuted last year as the first collegiate wrestling program in the state, includes 26 wrestlers from nine states.
Hatcher Wrestling Complex was named in honor of Greg Hatcher, president of the Arkansas Wrestling Association and founder and owner of the Hatcher Agency. Hatcher has been instrumental in helping establish and fund Tiger Wrestling, including providing funds for the wrestling complex.
The 8,200-square-foot practice facility features a large wrestling room with two regulation wrestling mats as well as a spacious locker room, cardio and weight area, computer lab, office and other amenities.
Kevin Ward, head coach of Ouachita’s NCAA Division II wrestling program, described the complex as “one of the finest wrestling facilities in the country.”
“I hope we are able to use this facility to add to the already rich tradition of OBU athletics,” said Ward, a 2005 Big XII wrestling champion at Oklahoma State University. “This building means a lot to our wrestling team, and we are very thankful for the efforts of everyone who made this possible.”
Ward affirmed the opportunity “to honor the man who made this possible.” Noting that “it took a lot of hard work by many people here on campus,” he said the facility “wouldn’t have been possible if not for the generosity and commitment of Greg Hatcher.”
A crowd of approximately 200 students, faculty, staff and other supporters gathered for the dedication, reception and open house.
Introducing Coach Ward to the crowd, Ouachita President Rex Horne said, “The thing that we’re so excited about is that he is the first coach of the first collegiate wrestling program in the state of Arkansas. We have a fine man to lead us in this way and fine athletes who have come to wrestle under his guidance.”
“The type of support we have been getting since we started the program at this school has really been encouraging,” Ward responded. “I feel very lucky to be able to use this facility and hope we can build a program that can make all of us proud here. I think it really goes back to Greg Hatcher and his vision for growing wrestling in the state of Arkansas and his commitment to see that vision through.”
Acknowledging the 26 wrestlers lined up behind him, Wardsaid, “We’ve been able to give opportunities to these guys from all the way across the United States to come to Ouachita to receive an education and compete at the college level. … This building really contains everything we need to build the type of program that will make us and the whole Ouachita community proud. We’re looking to build a team that’s really going to compete for regional and national titles here at this school.”
Describing Hatcher as a difference maker who is a devoted husband, father, coach and mentor, President Horne presented him with a plaque that reads: “In grateful appreciation to Greg Hatcher for visionary and generous support of the Ouachita Baptist University Tiger Wrestling Program and Hatcher Wrestling Complex.”
Noting that the wrestling complex previously served as the university’s facilities management building prior to extensive renovation and remodeling, Hatcher said, “Speaking of vision, you guys saw this thing before, right? … It gives me chills looking at what it’s like today.”
Addressing the wrestlers, Hatcher added, “When you get through at Ouachita, make sure you always give back and do something for your college, for your communities. … I’m very proud of Ouachita. This is a business of changing people’s lives.”

TEAM DURAN TO LOOK INTO GONZALES DECISION
Posted on | October 31, 2011 | No Comments
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
PATERSON, NJ (October 31, 2011)—This past Friday night, Middleweight Ossie Duran took on undefeated Brandon Gonzales in the nationally televised main event on Sho Box: The New Generation.
The fight, which took place in Duran’s home state of New Jersey, was a good fight with both combatants fighting hard.
As the fight wore on, it became clear that Duran was imposing his will his effective jab that set up a diverse selection of landed punches.
When the final bell rang, to the dismay of Duran and his team at Gulfstream Promotions, it was announced that Gonzales had taken the fight by split decision.
With that decision Gulfstream has decided to ask the New Jersey Boxing Commission to take a look at the tape to see what they thought of the decision.
“We feel Ossie didn’t get a well deserved decision”, said advisor to Duran Vinny LaManna.
“We just want the Commission to look at all things. Sitting ringside we thought Ossie won six rounds to two no question.”
“Watching the tape of the SHOWTIME broadcast only confirmed what everyone at ringside saw. Ossie won the fight. A reputable guy like SHOWTIME analyst Steve Farhood had Ossie winning the fight so I am not alone in what we saw”
“I want to thank Tom Brown and Goossen Tutor for giving Ossie the opportunity. At the end of the day, Ossie trained so hard and we had been in discussions for some major things with Ossie had he won this bout. Because of what we feel is a bad decision, those are on hold and keeps Ossie from his dream of fighting for a world title.”
