WORLD RANKED CRUISERWEIGHT CONTENDER BJ FLORES TARGETS LATEEF KAYODE

LAS VEGAS, NEVADA (August 4, 2011)—World Ranked Cruiserweight, BJ Flores wants to make a statement and he has pinpointed the man that will not only make a fan friendly fight with, but be a fight of importance.

Fresh off his 5th round TKO victory of highly rated Nick Iannuzz on July 23rd, Flores wants world rated and undefeated cruiserweight Lateef Kayode next. Flores has a date in Springfield, Missouri in October and is more than willing to bring in the highly rated rugged Nigerian as his next opponent.

Flores is 25-1 with sixteen knockouts.

Kayode, 17-0 with fourteen knockouts is ranked Number one by the WBA; Number three by the WBO; number four the WBC; and Number five by the IBF.

“I wanted Kaydoe after the fight he had with Iannuzzi. For whatever reason, they went in another direction. Now I have another date in Springfield, Missouri at the end of October and Lateef is on the top of my list! I contacted his promoter today and still waiting for a response. I want to clear up any confusion about who the top US cruiserweight contender is. This is a new phase in my career”, said Flores

“We had a wonderful turnout at the O’Rielly Center and had over 2100 people at the event! The guys at the O’Rielly are very excited to do another show as are we! I will be fighting here every 3 months until I get a shot at a title! If Lateef Kayode will take the fight then he will be the next victim. If not that, I will fight another highly rated US contender.”

“Kayode is rated higher than me and I’m willing to prove in the ring that I can beat him. It’s nothing personal but he has something I want and that’s a number-one ranking by the WBA and top five rating by all three other sanctioning bodies. He stands in my way of returning to a title fight and I want to set the record straight that I will fight any cruiserweight that is in my way of a title shot”!

Massachusetts native Chris Traetti to square off with unbeaten Edwin Rodriguez the main event of Broadway Boxing on August 20 from Mechanics Hall in Worcester, Mass.

Posted on | August 3, 2011 | No Comments

WORCESTER, MA (August 3, 2011) – It will be a battle for home state supremacy on August 20 when Edwin “La Bomba” Rodriguez puts his unbeaten record on the line in the main event of Broadway Boxing from Mechanics Hall in Worcester, Massachusetts. Rodriguez (18-0, 13 KOs), a Worcester native, will battle another local favorite, Chris Traetti (10-2, 6 KOs), who hails from just down the road in Quincy.

Tickets for Broadway Boxing are on sale now through DiBella Entertainment, and start at only $35. Tickets can be purchased by calling DiBella Entertainment at (212) 947-2577.

Traetti certainly won’t be scared by anything the unbeaten Rodriguez throws his way when they square off in the ring. Traetti is an active member of the US Air Force Reserves, who was stationed in Iraq from December, 2004 through May, 2005. Even now, Traetti spends his weekdays stationed at an Air Force base in Chicopee, Mass. before hitting the gym at night to prepare for Rodriguez.

“When I was deployed, there were days when I didn’t want to be there. I was in the worst place in the world, working 12 to 14 hour days, sleeping in a tent, and I had no home to go to,” said Traetti. “It puts things in perspective. Some days I don’t want to go to the gym, but then I think to myself ‘if that is the worst thing I have to do today, I am pretty lucky.’”

Since last June, when Rodriguez last stepped into the ring in his hometown, he has hit the road to score the two biggest wins of his career, a ninth round stoppage of James McGirt, Jr. to capture the WBC USNBC super middleweight title last November and a ten round decision over top-10 ranked super middleweight Aaron Pryor, Jr. in January. Traetti believes that those wins add weight on Rodriguez’s shoulders to perform that may pave the way to an upset.

“There is definitely going to be a big crew coming from Quincy, but it is still his homecoming” said Traetti. “If I lose, I go from 10-2 to 10-3 and I’ll get another fight because I promote my own shows. If he loses, there goes the world title shot. All the pressure is on him, and that is pretty liberating for me as a fighter.”

Tickets for Broadway Boxing are on sale now through DiBella Entertainment, and start at only $35. Main Floor tickets are priced at $55, $75, and $125. Rear Balcony tickets are $35 and $75. Tables for groups of 10 are priced at $1,000. Tickets can be purchased by calling DiBella Entertainment: (212) 947-2577, and more information can be obtained by visiting www.dbe1.com.

Technology Brings Another Boxing First: Facebook Grudge Match to be Settled at Chumash This Friday

Posted on | August 3, 2011 | No Comments

Clash at the Chumash Banner

“Vernon Paris is soft and lacks determination, heart and integrity: All the things necessary to become a champion. I have every one of them.”

Tim “Pitbull” Coleman

The first consumer computers were built in 1976.

Facebook was invented in 2004.

The first Facebook Grudge Match in a boxing ring will take place this Friday, live at the Chumash Casino Resort in Santa Ynez, California, and broadcast nationally on ESPN Friday Night Fights (ESPN2/ESPN Deportes/ESPN3.com 9PM Eastern LIVE).

“To be honest, he’s a jerk,” says Baltimore’s IBF #5-rated super lightweight contender Tim “Pitbull” Coleman (19-1-1, 5 KOs) of his next opponent, Detroit’s Vernon “Iceman” Paris (24-0, 14 KOs). “He wrote some vulgar comments on my Facebook page, talking about what he’s going to do to me, and I have a lot of kids who read my page.”

The two will settle their Facebook-borne grudge match in the 10-round main event of this Friday’s (August 5) “Clash at the Chumash” event in a battle that is also for the USBA Light Welterweight championship.

In the televised supporting bout, Glendale, California’s undefeated Art Hovhannesyan (14-0-1, 8 KO’s) will be looking to continue his winning ways against a very tough foe in former world title champion Cristobal Cruz (39-12-2, 23 KO’s) in a 10-round lightweight bout.

“Most fighters don’t come from great places and you have to inspire kids and lead by example,” continued Coleman, “all his cursing and the crap he called me on my Facebook page, he doesn’t set a good example at all.”

Growing more agitated, the never-shy Coleman finally let loose.

“What kind of person are you to go on a public page and do that? I have 3000 people on my Facebook page. People kept saying what an asshole. (Former world champion) Kendall Holt wrote to me and said ‘beat that guy. He’s a jerk.’ He’s (Paris) a really arrogant kid and he feels like the world owes him something. It was to the point I wanted to go to the place where he was staying and my manager talked me out of it. I have to keep my eye on the prize. His manger is a jerk and he’s a jerk. With everything in my body, I want to destroy him. Hurt his ass. I won’t be content until I put some serious pain on him. I hate him. My mouth just got dry because I want to hit him so bad.”

Settling down momentarily, Coleman managed a realistic evaluation of Paris’s style.

“Vernon is a solid fighter. He has a good jab and good reflexes, but he lacks heart. I’ve seen him gas after three or four rounds because he throws too many punches. Even though he has more fights than me, he doesn’t seem like a mature fighter. He has good beginner skills, but he doesn’t have that Mayweather style down pat yet. I will come out the first couple rounds and find him with my jab. I won’t be as successful in the first few rounds, but I’ll keep tapping that body and the tree will fall. All I have to do is wear him down. He doesn’t like pressure. I will bring my physicality to the ring and he won’t be able to deal with it. He will have success in spots because he’s faster, but they won’t be devastating blows.”

Despite seeing red, Coleman says he can clearly envision what will become of his online enemy turned real opponent.

“I got reports from all over that he’s getting stopped in the gym by an amateur fighter. I’m hitting harder than ever. I’m going to be a freight train for this fight. I’ve seen a lot of his fights, and when he gets hit, he tries to walk forward and hit back and that will be his dire mistake with me. As soon as he gets off his angle and tries to walk forward, I will hit him in his chin and he’ll go to sleep. All his shoulder rolling shit won’t work anymore.”

Clash at the Chumash is proudly promoted by Gary Shaw Productions.

On the outstanding undercard, Miami’s undefeated featherweight prospect Luis Franco (9-0, 5 KOs) will take on tough veteran Adolfo Landeros (21-20-2, 10 KOs) in an eight-round test; Guilderland, New York’s undefeated Michael “Baby Face Assassin” Faragon (15-0, 6 KOs) will face Memphis, Tennessee’s tough Ira Terry (24-5, 14 KOs) over six lightweight rounds; in an eight-round welterweight bout, New York City’s undefeated Michael Anderson will face a good test in El Paso, Texas, veteran Bernardo Guereca (16-11-1 3 KOs); and San Ardo, California’s Roman Morales (5-0, 4 KOs) will look to remain unbeaten in a four-round featherweight contest against Tabasco, Mexico’s Rodrigo Arranda (8-14-2, 2 KOs).

On fight night, the first fight will begin at 5:30 pm Pacific time. Tickets are priced at $35, $45, $55, $70, and $85 are available online at Star TicketsThe Chumash Casino Resort is located at 3400 East Highway 246 in Santa Ynez. Victor Lupo stalks Phil Lo Greco for Canadian Bragging Rights & more

Posted on | August 3, 2011 | No Comments

TORONTO (August 3, 2011) – For the past year, rugged Romanian welterweight Victor Lupo has unsuccessfully stalked undefeated World Boxing Council (“WBC”) International Welterweight Champion Phil “The Italian Sensation”Lo Greco. His persistence will soon pay-off, though, as the WBC recently ordered promoters Hennessy Sports (Lupo) and OPI 2000 (Lo Greco) to negotiate an agreement or Lo Greco-Lupo will go to purse bid next month.

Lupo’simpressive victory 10-round decision for the vacant WBC International Silver title this past February, against former world champion Junior Witter (37-3-2), set the stage for a showdown between Lupo (19-1-2, 9 KOs) and Lo Greco (22-0,12 KOs).

It’s a natural fight because Lupo lives in Toronto and Lo Greco was born there. Much more than Toronto bragging rights will be on the line, however, including a potential world title shot for the winner. Lo Greco is rated No. 13 by the WBC, while Lupo’s ranked No. 22.

Lupo believes Lo Greco has been avoiding him. “The Italian Sensation” obviously hasn’t lived-up to his nickname, fighting only a pair of six-round bouts in Italy, since he captured the WBC International crown June 18, 2010 via a ninth-round knockout of Slawomir Ziemiewicz.

“This will be a crossroads fight for both guys with the winner positioned for a world title fight next year,” promoter Adam Harris (Hennessy Sports) commented. “Victor is convinced that Lo Greco is scared of him, which explains why making it happen has been so difficult. A fight like this will certainly draw the attention of the Canadian media, especially where both fighters are from Toronto. OPI 2000 (Italian promoters Salvatore and Christian Cherchi) hasn’t responded to our proposals but, if the fight goes to purse bid, we are committed to making a good offer to promote the show.”

Go on line at www.HennessySports.comfor more information about Victor Lupo or any of its boxers.

Bareknuckle Fighting To Explode Onto Fight Sports Scene This Friday

Posted on | August 3, 2011 | No Comments

This Friday, August 5 is significant to fight sports for two reasons—the highly regarded motion picture Knuckle is being released in UK cinemas and on demand, and former world champion boxer Bobby Gunn will take part in the first sanctioned bareknuckle boxing match since 1889.

Knuckle tells the story of an epic 12-year journey into the world of an Irish Traveller community.  It takes viewers inside their brutal, secretive and exhilarating bare-knuckle fighting lives.

Chronicling a history of violent feuding between rival families, the story focuses on two brothers as they fight for their reputations and the honor of their family name. Brutal, yet captivating and ultimately moving, this unforgettable documentary offers an exclusive insight into the world of Irish Travellers and the lengths they will go to protect their family name.

Over the past few months bareknuckle fighting has been garnering much attention throughout the world.  Many critics call the sport barbaric and vicious, comparing it to a glorified street or bar fight.

“Not only is the bareknuckle match an organized event with ring doctors, it is a fight between two professionals”, said Gunn.  “This isn’t a back alley bum fight or bar fight.  Safety is a big issue, and they have it covered.”

“I want to make this sport cleaner, and show people that it’s not as ferocious as they think,” said Gunn.  “We are going to show people that it’s not barbaric, and that’s the truth.”

Bareknuckle boxing has the potential to revolutionize the fight sport industry.  With the release of Knuckle and the first bareknuckle boxing match in nearly 123 years happening on the same day, there is going to be tremendous buzz surrounding the sport.

“Boxing and MMA fans watch the sport because they want to see two professionals stand toe-to-toe and go to battle,” said Gunn. “My good friend and world renowned bareknuckle fighter James Quinn did a great job in Knuckle and I hope it opens up people’s eyes around the world of this sport.”

Gunn is adamant about bareknuckle boxing taking off and appealing to fight fans around the world.

“If you are a fan of fighting, then make sure to tune in this Friday to my fight, which will be aired live on ustream.tv,” said Gunn.  “And don’t miss Knuckle to learn about the incredible journey Irish Travellers have to tell.”

For more information on Bobby Gunn visit https://www.facebook.com/home.php#!/pages/Bobby-The-Celtic-Warrior-Gunn/229151550460878 or to learn more about Knuckle visit www.knucklethemovie.com.
