MOLINA FIGHT REPLACED BY DALLAS JR. – GONZALEZ BOUT AT UNIVERSITY OF TEXAS – ARLINGTON COLLEGE PARK CENTER
Posted on | February 7, 2012 | No Comments
Los Angeles (Feb. 6, 2012) – An IBF Elimination bout that was scheduled to take place between John Molina Jr. and Marvin Quintero was recently called off and replaced by a junior welterweight attraction between Mike “The Silent Assassin” Dallas Jr. and Miguel “Silky Smooth” Gonzalez, that will take place February 17, and air on ESPN “Friday Night Fights.”
The ESPN telecast will represent the first ever boxing event held at University of Texas at Arlington’s brand new College Park Center, which opened its doors this past December. The state of the art 6,200 seat stadium is home to UTA’s Mavericks men’s and women’s basketball and volleyball teams.
The event at the University of Texas – Arlington’s College Park Center will begin at 7:00 p.m. CT with the ESPN “Friday Night Fights” broadcast starting at 8:00 p.m. CT.
Tickets are priced at $20, $30, $50 and $100 VIP tickets (which include a pre-fight reception). Tickets will be available at the UTA College Park Center box office starting Friday, January 20, at 10 a.m. Tickets can also be ordered online atwww.UTAtickets.com, or by phone at (817) 272-9595.
Having gone unbeaten in his first 18 bouts, the 25-year-old Dallas Jr. (17-2-1, 7 KOs) of Bakersfield, Calif. will look to try to get back on course and in the win column after coming off a controversial decision loss against Mauricio Herrera last June. The Herrera bout also marked the first time recent Boxing Writers Association of America 2011 Trainer of the Year Virgil Hunter had worked with Dallas, albeit for only a thirty day period. After the June bout, Hunter and Dallas agreed to put time in the gym prior to his next coming out bout and this opportunity was “to good to pass up,” said Hunter. As for “The Silent Assassin” he is more determined and excited to put together a dominant performance and walk away with a convincing victory after his extended period in the gym with Hunter.
“Overall I just feel more complete inside the ring,” said Dallas. “Inside fighting has been non-existent in my game-plan in the past, but on Feb. 17 you’ll see a more complete and balanced fighter.”
In the opposite corner, Miguel Gonzalez (20-2, 15 KOs) will try to capture his 15th straight victory against Dallas. Gonzalez earned an impressive 2-round KO over rugged veteran Humberto Toledo, when the two fought in Detroit last October.
“ESPN gives me the opportunity to go to that next level,” said the crafty southpaw Gonzalez.
“We’re extremely excited to be promoting the Dallas Jr.-Gonzalez bout at the College Park Center in Texas,” says promoter Dan Goossen. “I guarantee the fans, it will be an exciting, knockout filled event.”
“We at ESPN’s Friday Night Fights are proud to be part of the first live nationally televised sporting event from UTA’s College Park Center. We anticipate a large and enthusiastic crowd from the campus community along with equally entertaining boxing contests,” said ESPN Programming Director Doug Loughrey.
In one of the other featured bouts, East L.A.’s Shawn Estrada (13-0, 12 KOs) gets back into action after recovering from knee surgery. The 26 year-old 2008 US Olympian super middleweight possesses an impressive knockout rate of 92.31%, and he looks to get right back to expanding that percentage against Terrance Woods (9-3, 6 KOs) from Bay City, Texas. In his most recent bout, Estrada returned to the country from where his parents were born, and fought for the first time in Mexico with another impressive offensive onslaught.
The event is promoted by Goossen Tutor Promotions in association withShowcase Promotions.

KELL BROOK SIGNS ENDORSMENT DEAL WITH SCOTTS
Posted on | February 7, 2012 | No Comments
The Special One extends his deal as the face of branded clothing specialists
Unbeaten Welterweight star Kell Brook has signed a sponsorship extension with Scotts Menswear, continuing his tenure for a second year as the face of the men’s branded clothing specialists.
The arrangement will see the Sheffield champ continuing to endorse the clothing company and receiving the benefits from their extensive collection of garments.
The deal comes ahead of ‘The Special One’s’ much-anticipated ‘War of the Roses’ bout with Matthew Hatton on March 17 at the Motorpoint Arena Sheffield.
“I’m so excited,” said Brook. “People who know me know I like to always look my best and extending this arrangement with Scotts will continue that. The brands they stock are among my favourites, I’m really made-up with this deal.”
Alan Hodgkiss, Managing Director of Scotts Menswear added: “We are extremely delighted to have extended our association with Kell Brook, with a new agreement for 2012. Having launched a strong partnership in 2011, by selecting Kell as the face of Scotts, we are proud to have him as the focal point of our current & future campaigns.”
“As a world-class boxer, who is a very focused, driven, ambitious and hard-working individual, we believe he personifies many positive attributes that the Scotts customer can identify with. Furthermore, he is a true gent and a pleasure to work with. We wish him the very best in his career and are sure that he will achieve the success he deserves.”
Brook’s profile has been on the rise since he moved to Matchroom Sport and his promoter Eddie Hearn is delighted with this latest deal.
“I’m over the moon to see Kell expand and extend his relationship with Scotts,” said Hearn. “Endorsements are a key part of any athletes make up and this partnership helps build Kell’s profile even further through print, online and broadcast media campaigns.
“Kell will be seen on bill boards and in shop windows and magazines all over the country. It’s all part of building him into that big ‘cross-over’ star that we know he will become.”
Tickets for Kell Brook vs. Matthew Hatton plus a full championship undercard are available priced £30, £60 and £100 (both limited availability) from the Motorpoint Arena Sheffield Box Office on 0114 256 5656 and atwww.motorpointarenasheffield.
£40 tickets and £150 VIP tickets have now sold-out.

Paul David Moves To London And Signs With Johnny Eames
Posted on | February 7, 2012 | No Comments
English Super Middleweight Champion Paul David has upped sticks and moved to London, after signing management papers with renowned manager/coach Johnny Eames and switching his training to the TRAD TKO Gym in Canning Town.
Paul, who won the English title via a seventh round knockout of Tyrone Wright in December 2008, is without doubt one of the most talented, as well as the most avoided, Super Middleweights on the European circuit and is clearly hopeful that the move to London may present him some new opportunities.
“I’m really enjoying being part of the TRAD TKO team. I’ve been coming here for a few weeks now and it’s been going well.
I’ve been sparring the Cruisers here, you know Leon Williams and the other big guys here, Mitchell Balker, from the Netherlands, and Paul (Menay) Edwards.
There’s a lot of the bigger guys up here but I’m just using my elusive style to get my way around the ring. So it’s good and the training’s like hard and physical and I’m going to have no problem getting down to Super Middle.
I should have been fighting Patrick Mendy but there were no purse bids so Johnny is looking for other fights for me. I don’t care who or where I fight so hopefully it wont be too long before my next fight.
I’m just ready to the business.”
Johnny Eames is more than a little aware of the problems of getting fights for such a feared fighter, but seems confident that he may be able to get Paul in contention to challenge the likes of current British and Commonwealth Champion George Groves, European Champion James DeGale, even if it means via a title eliminator against his close friend, former British Champion Paul Smith, as he made clear when he spoke earlier.
“I came across Paul a couple of years ago, I was offered him as an opponent for Tony Oakey, but I see him beat a fighter who became one of my fighters, Peter Haymer, so I didn’t fancy him as the right fighter for Tony at the time – he may have beat him, he may not, we’ll never know.
He’s a very awkward fighter, typical Ingles style, but better than a lot of Ingles fighters. He’s a Ryan Rhodes type of Ingles fighter who can do it. There’s a lot of the boys that come out of Sheffield that imitate the style but can’t perfect it, but Paul is certainly one of those that has perfected it and I can understand why so many fighters avoid fighting him.
He’s been sparring with Leon (Williams), Mitchell Balker and Paul Edwards amongst others and seeing him in sparring has changed my opinion on that style, I normally don’t like that style, it’s not the sort of style you want your fighters to fight against.
But he’s already got a little bit of us in there, so I really think we can really do something with this kid, if we are allowed to. There’s a lot of promoters out there that aren’t willing to put their top fighters in with Paul because they know he’ll beat them.
He’s English Champion and the usual follow on from being English Champion is the British title. I’d like to think he is more than capable of going in with Georgie Groves, James DeGale and a very good friend of mine Paul Smith.
That aside, it’s business and as Paul’s manager it’s my job to see that he gets the opportunity to go in with these kids and I will be doing everything I can to see that he does.”

WORLD RANKED CRUISERWEIGHT B.J. FLORES VERY EXCITED ABOUT POSSIBLE TITLE OPPORTUNITY AGAINST #1 RATED AFOLABI
Posted on | February 7, 2012 | No Comments
LAS VEGAS (February 5, 2012)–World Boxing Organization (WBO) number three ranked Cruiserweight B.J. Flores is looking for a world title shot and may have just received it….with a catch.
Flores (27-1-1, 17 KO’s) was extended an offer by K2 Promotions to face number-ranked Ola Afolabi (18-2-3, 8 KO’s) on March 3rd (25 DAYS AWAY) in Germany on the Wladimir Klitschko – Jean Marc Mormeck world Heavyweight title card.
Flores is ready and able to take on Afolabi but the timing seems to be a bit dubious.
“I want this fight badly and this is a GREAT opportunity for me to fight a big fight against a very good opponent. I look forward to facing you for the WBO interim world title!”
Flores is coming off his 3rd fight in the last 6 months, a very active schedule nowadays and wants at least 45 days, as the WBO rules state before this important fight is to take place.
“I want this fight!!!! I have been very active lately and ready for this type of challenge. But on twenty-six days notice? And having to go to GERMANY? This is a very serious fight for a very serious title and I demand my full 45 days of preparation, especially considering I just fought last Saturday. It’s only fair”
“I have worked very hard for this opportunity and combine that with a very very low 25,000 offer, it doesn’t seem like they really want this fight. This is a great chance for the Cruiserweight division to put on a great fight and they want to stick it on an undercard where no one will see it, for very low money with only 26 days notice and I would have to travel to Germany”, continued Flores
“I have just had three successful shows in Springfield, Missouri and with the cash streams we can generate, we could do the fight there and bring in a network TV station and both of us can not only make more money but it could re-energize the Cruiserweight division in the States. This fight deserves to be on TV and I deserve the regulated 45 day preparation time as I am the highest rated contender. Ola, I will pay you more money than you have offered me and we can definitely get American TV to cover this event. I demand the proper amount of time and I want everyone in America to see this fight as it is good for the division. Fighting on the undercard in Germany is with 25 days notice is not the right way to win a WORLD title”
“Have your promoter get in touch with Don King and we can set this up EASY!! I want this fight!”

GARY SHAW PRODUCTIONS’ THOMAS DULORME GRADUATES
Posted on | February 7, 2012 | No Comments
San Juan, Puerto Rico (February 6, 2012) – Puerto Rico’s undefeated welterweight prospect,Thomas Dulorme (13-0, 10 KOs), has graduated from Summa Cum Laude, of The Lyceum Arts and Technology school in Hato Rey, specializing as an AutoCad drafter.
Dulorme, a native of Carolina went on to say, “I’m very happy to achieve one of my lifelong dreams to graduate and have a profession. As an individual, regardless of whether you’re a boxer, you should seek to have options and I am happy to have this great achievement and to help secure my future.”
“Boxing is my passion, it’s the force that makes me get up every morning, but I know that one day it all ends and I will be ready when that day comes,” he continued.
Dulorme, 22, also has four years invested in a Bachelors Degree at the Polytechnic University of Puerto Rico (UPPR), concentrating in Civil Engineering. He is scheduled to resume his undergraduate studies in mid-2012.
“Drawing is my first love” stated Dulorme. “My dad is an engineer and I grew up in that environment working with geometry and dealing with the spaces available. I started with small drawings and models and really loved what I was doing. Gradually I improved through specialized classes and eventually jumped to formal education.”
Dulorme, while training in boxing, maintained a grade point average of 3.5. He delayed his studies at the UPPR and enrolled at The Lyceum Art and Technology school in Hato Rey, because he had to improve some aspects of his technical drawing, before completing his undergraduate degree.
“I went to the Lyceum because I wanted to improve and finish my studies with all the knowledge needed to practice my profession effectively,” said Dulorme. “Promotionally as a fighter, I’m represented by Universal Promotions, Gary Shaw Productions and DiBella Entertianment. I’m very happy with my career both inside and outside the ring.”
On February 17, Thomas Dulorme returns to the ring against Mexico’s Jose Reynoso (15-3-1, 2 KOs), in a 10 round bout for the vacant NABF welterweight title. He will be the main event on Showtime’s boxing series ShoBox: The New Generation at the Chumash Casino in Santa Ynez, California.
The co-feature showcases undefeated 154-pound puncher, his compatriot Jonathan “Mantequilla” Gonzalez (14-0, 13 KO’s), who battles global contender Billy Lyell (24-10, 5KOs), in a 10 round fight. Lyell has fought world class fighters such as Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. and James Kirkland.
Both Dulorme and Gonzalez were recently selected by ESPN as part of the prestigious “Super25” group, which features the top boxing prospects in the world.

Ryan “The Real Deal” Ford (16-4) is one of the top MMA stars in Canada. Ford was upset by David Hulett in his last bout, but before that defeat, he had won four straight fights, as well as eight of his last nine, finishing all his victims on either punches or submissions. In 2011 alone, he conquered Johnny Davis, former UFC welterweight contender Karo Parisyan, and fellow top Canadian Nick Hinchliffe in succession. Now looking to rebound from the Hulett loss, “The Real Deal” is motivated with a burning desire to show the fight world he truly is the next elite Canadian fighter.

Valimaki holds victories over MMA legend Dan “The Beast” Severn, and UFC veterans Vernon “Tiger” White and Jason “Dooms” Day. Chemelli, a member of Team Sparta and a native of Alberta, has finished all eight of his opponents in his victories, but is coming off his first career loss.
