Fight Night Announces Keefe-Sanders Main Event for Inaugural Show on February 11, 2012

Posted on | December 10, 2011 | No Comments

Lewiston, ME (December 8, 2011) – Nick DiSalvo is proud to announce that the inaugural event of “Fight Night,” a mixed martial arts (MMA) promotions company, will be held at the Androscoggin Bank Colisee in Lewiston, Maine on Saturday, February 11th, 2012.

“Everyone in Maine and New England knows that Lewiston is a fight town,” stated DiSalvo, a veteran attorney and promoter of MMA events. “Muhammad Ali had one of his most infamous title fights in Lewiston and former boxing world champion Joey Gamache was homegrown there. I’m proud to be able to bring the first mixed martial arts event to this famous fight town.”

DiSalvo has booked the Androscoggin Bank Colisee for “MMA Fight Night I,” which was the venue for the 1965 Heavyweight Boxing Championship rematch between Sonny Liston and Muhammad Ali. The 4,500 capacity arena is the premiere venue in the Lewiston/Auburn area. The facility has added over $4 million in renovations in the last four years including food court/taverns and other amenities to provide fight fans with a top-flight experience from the moment they enter the building.

The Main Event for MMA Fight Night I is a professional welterweight bout between undefeated, fast-rising Maine prospect Ryan Sanders (2-0) from Young’s MMA and top-ranked Northeast middleweight Dan Keefe (7-2) out of Wai Kru/IntenZe.

“Keefe-Sanders is a big main event,” stated matchmaker Matt Peterson. “Ryan Sanders has been on a tear lately and while he hasn’t been fighting professionally for as long as Dan Keefe, Sanders’ wins are over some gritty, tough veteran fighters. Ryan and his coaches made it clear to me that they were only interested in fighting the best guys the region has to offer—and that’s what they’ll get in Dan Keefe on February 11th.”

Dan “The Ghost” Keefe is currently ranked #7 in the Northeast at 185 pounds. He began his professional career over five years ago as a middleweight and has only recently made the move down to 170 pounds to compete in the welterweight division.

“I’m excited to fight in Maine,” stated Keefe. “Ryan is a popular fighter there and will probably have a lot of fans in the crowd supporting him—but I’ll be bringing a lot of my fan base too. He’s a tough guy and I know we’ll put on a great show for the fans.”

MMA Fight Night I will have no fewer than three former Maine State Wrestling Champions on the card. “We set out to sign some of the best talent in the state and region for this show,” stated Peterson. “I’m confident that fans will feel that we accomplished our mission when they witness the action in the cage on February 11th.”

Middleweight Thomas Baldwin Looks To Remain Unbeaten Next Week In North Bergen

Posted on | December 10, 2011 | No Comments

In his young fight career middleweight Thomas Baldwin has made some noise due to his punching power and unrelenting work ethic.  Next Thursday, December 15, Baldwin will be looking to extend his unbeaten record to 3-0 as he will be fighting Dominique Foster at Schuetzen Park in North Bergen.

Baldwin (2-0-1, 1 KO) has displayed much skill and poise in his first three fights as a professional, showing off both his power and conditioning.

He gravitated towards the sport early on, and although where he grew up football and basketball were the majority sports played, he kept his passion for boxing alive inside of him.

“After football I would come home and watch old fight tapes of Ali and do my best to emulate him shadow boxing,” said Baldwin.

Baldwin continued his progression with boxing in college until he suffered an ACL injury that sidelined him for a while, in which he put on weight and jumped up to 215 pounds.

“The injury was a blessing,” said Baldwin.  “Once I was healed up I began boxing full time, and knew that’s what I wanted to do.”

Although he hasn’t fought in over a year, Baldwin is anxious to get inside the ropes next Thursday.

“It’s been a long time since I have fought, but I am ready,” said Baldwin.  “Since I am a personal trainer, I always stay in shape, so even when I am not at the gym training I was doing what I had to in order to maintain.  I knew that once I got my call, I’d be ready.”

Baldwin attributes his early success due to his work ethic and his supportive team. “Terrific and all the guys at Global Boxing are the best,” said Baldwin.  “The work and sparring I get with those guys is top level. And working with Steve Frank has been huge for my progression.”

Following his fight next week, Baldwin has expressed much interest in fighting regularly in 2012.  “I definitely want to fight consistently going forward; I’d like to get two fights in November and two in December,” said Baldwin.  “Whenever they call me I know I will be ready; I just want to get out there to showcase my skills and let the public see more of me.”

Baldwin is currently managed under formed heavyweight knockout artist Lou Esa of Winning Method Management.

“Lastly, I’d like to give a shot out to all my team for always keeping me strong; Terrific, Steve Frank, Lou Esa and all of my friends and family, co-worker…everyone for keeping me going and supporting me.”

The entire fight card is comprised of highly-competitive bouts featuring some of the New York/New Jersey area’s finest young fighting talents.

Tickets, priced $100, $75 and $55, are on sale now and can be purchased at Global Boxing Gym in North Bergen(201-348-3149), Trinity Boxing Gym near Wall Street (212-374-9393), at Jack Demsey’s Pub in Midtown Manhattan(212-629-9899), at Gleason’s Gym in Brooklyn (718-797-2872 or by calling RKO Boxing at 908-240-2097.

Doors open at 6:30 PM, and the first bout is set to start at 7:30 PM.

“CAPITAL SHOWDOWN: KHAN VS. PETERSON” FINAL PRESS CONFERENCE QUOTES

Posted on | December 10, 2011 | No Comments

Amir Khan, Unified Super Lightweight Champion

“I always said when I was younger, I wanted to fight in different states and different areas of the world because I want to be the best and prove that I’m the best.

“We know how good Lamont is. He’s strong. He’s only lost one fight in his whole career. It’s going to be a tough night and you have a lot of support here, but I think we will have a lot more support [than people think].

“It’s been a long time since you had a big fight in DC, and we want to bring big fights back here again.”

Lamont Peterson, #1 Rated IBF Super Lightweight Contender

“I’ve been talking for two months now. I’m tired of talking. I’m ready to fight.

“I don’t like to be amped or crazy going into the ring because I’m a thinker. I just think about the game plan, go over that a few times and before I know it, they’re raising my hand at the end of the fight. I just keep going over that over and over again until it’s time to go.

“Khan has got his army here, so we really need DC to come out and represent!”

Seth Mitchell, Undefeated Heavyweight Contender

“I’m excited about the fight and I’m anxious. I’m tired of training.

“I’m not underestimating Timur at all.

“I’m confident. I know this is a big step for me. You don’t get a record like Timur’s without knowing how to fight and maneuver in the ring.

“I respect my opponent a lot, but come December 10, I’m pretty sure he won’t respect me and I won’t respect him either.

“I feel that it’s my time.”

Timur Ibragimov, Heavyweight Contender

“I fought so many times in Moscow, Germany, but never in the capital of America. It’s a big honor.”

Anthony Peterson, Lightweight Contender & Lamont’s Brother

“It’s been 15 months since my last fight. The Only thing I can say is keep your eyes open and don’t blink, because I got a lot of stuff to get off my chest on Saturday.

“I’m frustrated that it’s been so long since I fought, but it’s been a learning experience.

“I’ve got to prove a point to myself and to everybody else. I believe the Peterson brothers are the best pound-for-pound fighters in the world and I’ll believe it till I die, but we have to prove it to everyone else.

“We had to endure a lot more than the average kids, but we made up for that with Barry. He showed us how to live outside of boxing. He is my father.”

Freddie Roach, Boxing Hall of Famer and Amir’s trainer

“I fought here on March 1 in 1986. Darryl Tyson kicked my butt, but we’re gonna change that in the upcoming fight.

“Amir Khan is really ready. We had a great training camp and we’ll see you all there Saturday night.”

Barry Hunter, Team Peterson Manager and Trainer

“It’s not often that you have someone like Amir take a fight in the other person’s hometown when you can have a fight anywhere else in the planet, but he chose DC, so he deserves all the thanks and praise in the world.”

Andre Hunter, Seth Mitchell’s Trainer

“Seth has prepared very well and we know Timur is coming to fight. Seth is ready to go.”

Oscar de la Hoya, President of Golden Boy Promotions

“Saturday night, we will see the future of the heavyweight division in Seth Mitchell.

“When Amir Khan won the Silver Medal in 2004, he already looked like a seasoned veteran. He had tremendous speed, power and foot work.”

Bernard Hopkins, Light Heavyweight World Champion and Golden Boy Promotions Partner

“DC is one of those towns that boxing needs to be back in. Everybody on this stage has the opportunity to prove why DC is now the place for boxing and that it is a fight town.

“Amir and Lamont, this is your time to shine. This is your opportunity to build your own legacy and your own careers starting Saturday.”

Greg O’Dell, President and CEO of Events DC

“We couldn’t be more thrilled to be a part of this fight.

“We want to make this fit for a ‘King,’ Amir Khan, but we also want to see some ‘Havoc’ from Lamont Peterson as well and we want to see our good friend Seth Mitchell cause a little ‘Mayhem’ when he’s fighting.”
