Mr. Hollywood Shannon Rose Loses His Hair at Florida Underground Wrestling

Posted on | August 31, 2011 | No Comments

(Tampa, FL ) – On August 23, 2011 “Mr. Hollywood” lost his hair in a bet that his man Fidel Sierra could beat Bruce Santee and recapture the FUW Heavyweight Championship belt.

See the match where “Mr. Hollywood” Shannon Rose loses his hair by visiting these links:

(Part 1)  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=r_KtwTuot1o

(Part 2) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1n08Pukwl6g

(Part 3) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_uB1jMSZP28

The terms of the match were simple, if Sierra wins Santee loses the belt and is suspended for 3 weeks.  If Santee wins, he keeps the belt and Rose loses his hair.

With a turn of good luck, Sierra pinned Santee in what looked to be a promise fulfilled by Sierra that Rose would not lose his hair; however after pinning Santee, Florida Underground Wrestling’s Commissioner Dontay Brown decided to restart the match due to use of a foreign object.

Santee was able to make a quick recovery and pinned Sierra quickly keeping his title and costing Rose his hair.  Brown shaved Mr. Hollywood in the ring.

“It was humiliating losing my hair and being suspended… now I am heading back to find myself back in Hollywood.  This is not the end for Mr. Hollywood” says Rose.

JHONNY GONZALEZ DEFENDS TITLE AGAINST ROGERS MTAGWA UNDEFEATED OLYMPIANS SHAWN ESTRADA AND JAVIER MOLINA ALSO SET TO APPEAR ON ESPN DEPORTES FIGHT CARD FROM EL PASO, TEXAS ON SEPTEMBER 15

Posted on | August 31, 2011 | No Comments

Los Angeles (Wednesday, Aug. 31) World Boxing Council (WBC) Featherweight Champion Jhonny Gonzalez (49-7, 43 KOs) of Mexico City, Mexico puts his title, and his pride on the line as he fights on his country’s Independence Day, Thursday, September 15 at the County Coliseum in El Paso, Texas as he takes on the Tanzanian slugger, Rogers Mtagwa (27-14-2, 19 KOs).  The 12-round World Championship bout is presented by Goossen Tutor Promotions and Promociones Del Pueblo and will be broadcast live on ESPN Deportes and Televisa.

Also appearing on the event are the former 2008 U.S. Olympic teammates and promising prospects, Super Middleweight Shawn Estrada (12-0, 11 KOs) and Welterweight Javier Molina (8-0, 4 KOs), who are both of Mexican-American descent and living in East Los Angeles and Norwalk, respectively.

Estrada will be faced with a tough, 8-round fight against Zane “The Train” Marks (17-6, 10 KOs), who had once put together an impressive 14-fight winning streak before that run was stopped during an unsuccessful world title fight challenge.  The Scottish-born Marks, who is currently residing in Louisiana, is excited to get back in the ring against the young Olympian.

Olympic teammate Molina, who also boasts an undefeated record, started his career with four KOs, followed by four dominant decisions after recovering from a lingering hand problem. Molina looks to re-establish his KO power, when he steps in the ring with a hard hitting opponent from Golden Meadow, Louisiana in John Revish (10-4-2 8 KOs).  In his 16 professional bouts, Revish, who studies psychology at LSU, is a veteran of two world title challenges, by far the most experienced opponent for the young Molina.

The night of fights also showcases two 10-round Super Featherweight bouts featuring four talented Mexican fighters ready to celebrate their countries independence boxing style, in the ring.   The first 10-round fight features Miguel “Mickey” Roman (34-8, 26 KOs) of Ciudad Juarez taking on Mexicali’s Antonio Jose Meza (29-11-1, 21 KOs).

Heavyweight Tournament Heads to Louisiana’s L’Auberge Du Lac Casino Resort October 1st for Bellator 52

Posted on | August 31, 2011 | No Comments

CHICAGO, Ill. (August 31, 2011) — When Bellator kicks off its Season 5 Heavyweight Tournament, the eight man field will bring a dominating 73-15-2 record into the cage that includes 41 combined knockouts.  The eight heavyweights are set to square off at Bellator 52 as the promotion will determine who will earn a title shot against reigning undefeated Bellator Heavyweight Champion Cole “The Polar Bear” Konrad. The four quarterfinal fights will air LIVE on MTV2 and in HD on EPIX October 1st from the L’Auberge Du Lac Casino Resort in Lake Charles, Louisiana. Tickets for the event can be purchased on Bellator.com and Ticketmaster.com.

“We’ve consistently seen dramatic, explosive performances from our heavyweights and that’s exactly what I expect in our Season 5 Heavyweight tournament,” said Bellator Chairman & CEO Bjorn Rebney. “Neil, Ron, Eric, Mark, Big Monster all look to knock you out from the moment the first bell rings, so don’t blink when this tournament starts Oct. 1 LIVE on MTV2 and in HD on EPIX.”

Bellator Season 3 Heavyweight Tournament finalist Neil Grove is back and will take on Bellator veteran Mike “300” Hayes in what should be a stand-up war. Grove is coming off a riveting win against former “The Ultimate Fighter” competitor Zak Jensen at Bellator 47 and is eager to get back into the Bellator cage.

“This tournament is stacked with strikers this year, which will provide a stronger line-up and even more exciting fights than last year,” said Grove. “I’m sure Cole is just as busy as the rest of us, preparing for battle against one of us, and I’m just excited to compete for another shot at the title, especially for a promotion such as Bellator.”

Born and raised in Rio de Janeiro Brazil, Thiago “Big Monster” Santos will enter his first Bellator Heavyweight Tournament against undefeated Bulgarian heavyweight and world-class Sambo competitor Blagoi Ivanov. While Ivanov has already collected a victory with Bellator, Santos has yet to compete inside the Bellator cage and already has title aspirations.

“I’m extremely excited to be fighting on national television in the United States for the first time on MTV2,” said Santos. “This is a huge opportunity for my young career, and I feel like this fight is going to be the first on my way to the Bellator Heavyweight World Championship.”

Another monster joins the tournament as Ron “The Monster” Sparks looks to keep his undefeated record intact when he takes on Oklahoma native Mark Holata. The 11-2 fighter rides an eight-fight win streak into the bout, and will be looking to punch his ticket into the semifinals with a victory.

Army veteran Eric Prindle looks to build off his Bellator 40 victory with a long tournament run. His first test will be against Bellator newcomer and former college football standout Abe Wagner. The impressive heavyweight took down former UFC Heavyweight Champion Tim Sylvia earlier this year and is ready make a run in this season’s tournament.

INTRODUCING UNDEFEATED HEAVYWEIGHT JOHN LENNOX

Posted on | August 31, 2011 | No Comments

Lennox to put undefeated mark on the line on September 14th at the Robert Treat Hotel in Newark on big night of boxing promoted by Gulfstream Boxing

CARTERET, NEW JERSEY (August 31, 2011)—Today’s Heavyweight division is always looking for a new star. Many have come from different countries; they come in all sizes and have vastly different personalities.

Enter John Lennox.

The Carteret, New Jersey native has all the potential to be one of the best Heavyweight prospects In the United States.

It all started over a decade ago when Lennox started boxing but not for competition but to stay in shape for other sports.

Lennox played Football, Baseball and Basketball in High School for which he played football and became an All-American Linebacker at Montclair St.

Lennox then played Professional for Lexington in the Arena League.

“I boxed to stay in shape for football”, said Lennox.

“After football, I had a brief amateur career and I was ready for the professional ranks.”

“My trainer Charles Thomas thought it was time and we went pro”

Lennox turned pro on November 19th, 2008 with a third round stoppage over Ricardo Cuffee at The Robert Treat Hotel in Newark, New Jersey.

Lennox then racked up two more wins to run his ledger to 3-0.

Then Lennox took a twenty-five month layoff that was not to his own doing.

“I had trouble getting fights and almost was ready to quit.”

Lennox then hooked up with manager Rich Masini.

“I see a lot of potential in John.  He is a natural athlete and he has the heart of a lion”, said Masini.

Lennox came back from his break with a disqualification victory over Kareem Wilson on June 22nd, 2011 at The Robert Treat.

Lennox then fought two more times in just over a month as he stopped Donnie Crawford on July 9th at part of the Paul Williams – Erislandy Lara HBO undercard in Atlantic City and in Lennox’ last bout, Lennox stopped Jason Pauley in round two of their fight on July 29th in Philadelphia.

Lennox has started a unique training regimen called Hypoxic Training.

It is a method that replicates training at the highest of altitudes.

“The company is called Advanced Altitude 365 and I can feel after every session the difference that it has started to make.  I already feel stronger and my body is in much better shape since I started this”, said Lennox.

Advance Altitude was founded and owned by Don Carmody.

“John is looking better with every fight and with his team and the way he trains, I feel he can be the best heavyweight to come out of New Jersey”, said Masini.

Lennox will put his perfect record on the line when he returns to the Robert Treat Hotel in Newark on Wednesday night September 14th.

Tickets priced $100 (Limited VIP), $50, & $30 (Very Limited) and are on sale now and can be purchased by calling            973-350-9993       or             1-866-263-STAR

“STAR POWER: Mayweather vs. Ortiz” At The Intersection Of The Boxing Biz And Show Biz

Posted on | August 31, 2011 | No Comments

9-17 HBO PPV Letterhead FINAL

Las Vegas (August 31) – As we near the September 17 mega-event “STAR POWER: Mayweather vs. Ortiz” emanating from both the boxing capital of the world, Las Vegas, and the celebrity capital of the world, Los Angeles, the connection between the squared circle and the silver screen comes even more into focus. This fight card is called “STAR POWER” and the eight fighters featured on the HBO Pay-Per-View® televised event carry on the proud tradition of fighters rubbing elbows with Hollywood’s elite, romancing stunning starlets and flashing smiles that can make female fans’ knees buckle.

Atop the bill is Mayweather, who rocketed to A-list celebrity status when he competed on ABC’sDancing With The Stars in 2007. Claiming rapper and actor 50 Cent as one of his closest friends, Mayweather’s fights regular draw ringside observers that include the likes of big name stars such as Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes, Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie, Jay-Z and Beyonce, Kim Kardashian, Jennifer Lopez, Sean Puffy Combs, Denzel Washington as well as top dollar athletes in Tiger Woods, David Beckham, Magic Johnson and Charles Barkley. You name them, he pulls them.

Headlining the L.A. portion of the show is Canelo Alvarez, who was at one time engaged to model/actress/sports reporter Marisol Gonzalez. Alvarez’s opponent is Alfonso Gomez who rose to fame with Sylvester Stallone and Sugar Ray Leonard by his side on the inaugural season of NBC’sThe Contender and, playing in the hip-hop/rock band Hy3rid, has straddled the fence between boxing and the entertainment industry ever since.

Canelo brings the added element of pop-idol-like appeal among female fight fans; crossing over to sex symbol status like no boxer has since Oscar De La Hoya (who just happens to be the promoter of “STAR POWER”). Once in a generation, if that, a fighter comes along who makes the girls shriek like something out of Beatles concert. Alvarez possesses that quality.

However, Canelo is far from the only fighter on this card with a fan base that includes the fairer sex. Mayweather’s sparkling smile has caught the eye of the ladies since he rose to fame in his late teens, Ortiz has drawn comparisons to De La Hoya himself because of his good looks and the fighters who will open the pay-per-view broadcast, Jessie Vargas and Josesito Lopez, both have Latino heartthrob potential.

Any of these fighters might look natural with starlets on their arms, which would mean they’d be carrying on a proud tradition that goes all the way back to 19th century heavyweight champion John L. Sullivan, who famously dated voluptuous chorus girl Ann Livingston. Other heavyweight champs made it more official: Jack Dempsey married movie star Estelle Taylor, Max Schmeling wed actress Anny Ondra and more recently, Mike Tyson was briefly, and tempestuously, married to actress Robin Givens. The latest boxing/Hollywood heavyweight couple featured Wladimir Klitschko andHeroes star Hayden Panettiere, who ended their two-year relationship just a few months ago.

Such romances aren’t limited only to the heavyweight fighters. Two of the most notable boxer-celebrity unions in history involved middleweight champs: Marcel Cerdan with French singer and cultural icon Edith Piaf and Gorilla Jones with actress and sex symbol Mae West.

For all of the star fighters who’ve romanced in Hollywood circles, countless more have “bromanced” in those circles. Former light heavyweight champ Jose Torres was best friends with Ryan O’Neal (who starred in the 1979 boxing movie The Main Event). Sugar Ray Leonard palled around with many of Hollywood’s heavy hitters and famously told Michael J. Fox, before anyone else, that he intended to come out of retirement and fight Marvin Hagler. Tyson is now an actor of sorts himself, appearing in The Hangover and The Hangover 2, but long before that, he ran with many of the biggest names in television, film and music. In fact, his friendship with Tupac Shakur was the subject of a 2010 documentary entitled One Night In Vegas.

The connections between the worlds of boxing and entertainment are numerous, and they will be on display again when “STAR POWER” spans the distance from Las Vegas to Los Angeles. Many of Tinseltown’s top draws will be seated ringside at both MGM Grand and STAPLES Center. So much so that the ring announcers at the venues will likely spend as much time introducing the celebrities as they do the fighters.

HBO analyst Larry Merchant has famously referred to boxing as “the theater of the unexpected.” What is not unexpected is that boxing will provide great theater, and attract the most famous names and faces from the celebrity world.

Shaw Congratulates “Real Deal” for Successful Defense

Posted on | August 31, 2011 | No Comments

Gary Shaw of Gary Shaw Productions wishes to congratulate IBF middleweight champion Daniel “The Real Deal” Geale (26-1, 15 KOs) for making his first successful title defense, a dominant 12-round unanimous decision over Miami via Nigeria’s Eromosele Albert (24-5-1, 12 KOs) on Wednesday night.

Fighting on his home turf at the Derwent Entertainment Centre in Tasmania, Australia, Geale showed tremendous ring generalship by out-boxing and out-speeding his determined challenger. The judges’ scores were 116-112, 117-111 and 119-109.

In front of more than 5,000 electrified fans, the wildly popular Geale entered the ring to a song written about him in his honour. Geale won the belt from Germany’s Sebastian Sylvester last May.

“Tonight saw the birth of a new Australian superstar,” said an elated Shaw, post-fight. “Daniel’s dominance is proof he is ready for anyone in the world. He’s worked hard to become the fighter he is and he’s been expertly brought along by Garrie Fransisco and Bill Tracy as his managers and Graham Shaw as his trainer. It’s a regional success story that is now going global and I’m proud to be his promoter.”

Shaw says that Geale suffered an injury to his right hand and will take some time off to heal before announcing his next move.
