Enfield’s sensational Light Welterweight prospect Chris ‘The Flash’ Evangelou is set for his first fight outside London, when he travels to Scotstoun Sports Campus, Glasgow, Scotland to face Poland’s globe trotting Arek Malek, on Saturday 27th November.
Chris, who has a perfect 4-0 record, has proved to be one of the UK’s brightest rising stars since his debut just under a year ago. On his debut, at York Hall in Bethnal Green in December ‘09, Chris put on a master class to out point the highly experienced battler Kristian Laight by 40-37 points margin. ‘The Flash’ followed this up with an equally dominating victory over East Ham’s Johnny Greaves at York Hall in February this year.
With two classy victories under his belt it was no surprise that his exceptional talent would bring him to the attention of the top promoters and a slot on the bill of a ‘Big Show’. So in April Chris finds himself as support to the European Heavyweight title showdown between Audley ‘A Force’ Harrison and Michael Sprott and the European Middleweight title fight between ‘Dazzling’ Darren Barker and Affif Belghecham at the Matchroom Sports promoted event at Alexander Palace.
In front of the massive crowd, and the TV cameras, ‘The Flash’ lived up to his ring moniker by utterly dominating Marius Jasutis before finishing him off with a a superb double combination to the head, that see the hapless Lithuanian crashing to the canvas, after just 49 seconds of the first round.
“It was a bit quick,” was Chris’ reply when asked about the very quick knockout of Marius, “I think it was just the money shot punches, it was two good shots. If I’d just hit him with either one I don’t think he would have gone down but it was the two good hard shots that seemed to shake him a lot more. (writers note: Marius was out cold and required medical assistance and oxygen) It was good to show people I mean business.
I’m in the sport because I want to go all the way, I’m a good guy out of the ring, I have good manners and I’m very humble but when I’m in the ring it’s business, that’s how you’ve got to keep it.”
In July Chris was back at York Hall, where again he produced a classy dominating performance to earn a shutout 40-36 victory over Wiltshire’s Aaron Fox, in front of his ever growing legion of fans.
When asked about this fight Chris smiled and said, “It was a good experience that one. It was the hottest night of the year in the York Hall, which was the worse place to be at that time. It was good, a lot of punches thrown but it was the complete opposite of the third fight and it got me conditioned for further fights, going the distance in fights.”
Following some serious sparring with Welterweight Freddie Turner and former Olympian and unbeaten Super Middleweight Billy Joe Saunders at the Ultrachem TKO Boxing Gym in Canning Town, London, Chris spoke briefly on his preparations for the upcoming fight, “I’ve been back in training for so long now and am just peaking. It’s good to get this fight now as I’m hot. I’ve got the strength and the speed, I don’t want to stagnate too long. I’ve been training so hard and I’m ready to fight now.”
Chris then went on to talk a little about the sparring, “Two good southpaws, they’re both awkward to hit. It was really good for me as well because I got injured a few months ago so I wasn’t able to spar so they’ve sharpened me up a bit. Hopefully I’ll get a bit more sparring in before the fight.”
Chris ‘The Flash’ Evangelou versus Arek Malek will be at the Scotstoun Sports Campus, Glasgow, Scotland on Saturday 27th November.
