Mansfield – The American Fighting Organization is kicking off 2011 in style with its annual “New Years Redemption” event Saturday January 8th at the Holiday Inn in Mansfield, MA. The show will feature two title fights and over a dozen action packed bouts. Tickets are available by calling 401-286-3413 or by visiting www.AFOMMA.com.
Come to see why The Boston Herald named the AFO “Northeast Promotion of the Year” for 2010.

In one of two main events, AFO welterweight champion Paddy “Thunder Kitten” Thompson (9-3, 5 KO’s, 4 submissions) of Pembroke, MA will put his title on title at stake against Brockton’s Steve “The Sandman” Dunn (5-0, 2 KO’s, 2 submissions) in a battle of two of the AFO’s most popular fighters.

It will be Thompson’s first defense of the AFO welterweight title since regaining the title via 2nd round TKO over Tim O’Connell last October. In defeating O’Connell, Thompson avenged an earlier defeat along with reclaiming the welterweight championship for the 2nd time.

Dunn, who trains with UFC welterweight John “Doomsday” Howard, made his AFO debut last October on the same show Thompson won the welterweight title. Fighting earlier in the night, Dunn made quick work of John Downey submitting him just 61 seconds into the fight.

In the other title fight that night, the AFO will crown its first ever heavyweight champion when New England MMA mainstays Shawn Galano (5-1, 5 KO’s) and Mike Dexter (4-6, 2 KO’s, 1 submission) vie for the title of baddest of the big men.

Galano, who like Dunn is originally from Brockton, is heavy handed and has ended things early in all five of his victories. Dexter, who resides in New London, Connecticut, is a highly respected trainer & coach outside of being a fighter himself. He helps run Team Dexter Vale Tudo in Connecticut specializing in stand-up fighting.

Rounding out the pro portion of the card, NFL Veteran & former UConn Huskies Defensive End Tyler King will make his pro MMA debut in a heavyweight fight. He’ll be opposed by the far more experienced James Quelle (4-3, 4 TKO’s). This bout will make King a second generation New England pro athlete as his father, Steve King, played for the Patriots from 1973 to 1981.

135 pounder Sean Patrick Brady is also set to make his pro debut against Maine resident Chris Rowley. Sityotong lightweight prospect Lewis Corapi (1-0) will be returning to the AFO for his 2nd pro fight against Matt Kaponis (1-1) and middleweight Francisco Ferreria (1-0) will meet the pro debuting Chris Paolini.
