REPLACED BY JOSE GONZALEZ ON MARCH 7 AT FOXWOODS;
TELEVISED LIVE ON ESPN’S FRIDAY NIGHT FIGHTS
Promoted by Art Pelullo/Banner Promotions and Rodney Berman/Golden Gloves Promotions.
Friday, March 7, 2008, in the Fox Theatre at Foxwoods Resort Casino.
Televised live on ESPN’s “Friday Night Fights.”
Harry Joe Yorgey has withdrawn from the co-featured bout on the March 7 fight card at Foxwoods. He said in a press release that the reason was “continuing litigation” between himself and his former manager.
He has been replaced in the scheduled 10-round fight for the vacant NABA super welterweight title by Jose “El Cuervo” Gonzalez, 11-2 with 9 knockouts, of Garden City, Kansas, who will now fight Jason “The Hammer” Le Houllier, 21-0 with 8 knockouts, of Portland, Maine.
It should be an exciting battle – Le Houllier is well-known for his aggressive, all-action style, but Jose said that he was already training for another fight and is ready. He said, “I’m in shape already, so we don’t have to worry about that. I feel great right now. I’m a boxer-puncher. I fought every different kind of style.”
In the main event scheduled for 12 rounds, “Merciless” Thomas Mashaba, 20-1-4 with 12 knockouts, of Carltonville, South Africa, will make his sixth defense of the IBO featherweight title against Cristobal Cruz, 35-11-1 with 23 knockouts, of Tijuana, B.C., Mexico.
Note: Thomas Mashaba’s official record was recently revised – a six-round decision loss in February, 2001, has been removed from his record. Art Peyton of Boxrec.com sent the following email: “Please be advised that South African Thomas Mashaba’s first loss in his ‘Official Record’ is incorrect; Mr. Mashaba never appeared in the Thohoyandou, Limpopo show on 02/24/01. Our South African editor, Andre De Vries, has confirmed this correction with the proper SA Commission and BoxRec has a copy of the report on file. His record stands as 20-1 12 KOs .” Official recordkeeper Fight Fax has also received the South African commission report and made the change.
An exciting lineup of preliminary fights will complete the card:
