Laredo Has Big-Time Boxing Fever

The enthusiasm for boxing shown by the citizens and officials in the city of Laredo, Texas, has several veteran boxing men predicting an unforgettable night on Friday, April 8.

That’s when Showtime’s ShoBox “The New Generation” cameras will roll in for the “Rumble on the Rio” boxing event at the Laredo Energy Arena in Laredo, Texas.

Rumble on the Rio is being presented by Antonio Leonard Productions, in association with DiBella Entertainment; Warriors Boxing; Keeppunching Entertainment and is brought to Laredo by C.Y. Benavides. It will feature three sensational nationally televised match-ups between up-and-coming contenders, as undefeated Houston, Texas, super middleweight Marcus “Too Much” Johnson (20-0, 15 KOs) takes on Florida’s Dyah Davis (18-2-1, 9 KOs), 6′ 3″ welterweight Willie Nelson (16-0-1, 10 KOs) goes against once-beaten Vincent Arroyo (10-1, 7 KOs) and undefeated light welterweight Danny O’Connor (14-0, 3 KOs) faces also undefeated Gabriel Bracero (14-0, 1 KO).

“You can already tell the atmosphere that night will be electric,” says long-time boxing promoter Kerry Daigle of Keeppunching. “Texas is a hotbed for boxing and the fans here are very knowledgeable. They know they’ve got one of their own in the main event against a tough kid from Florida, with a terrific undercard, and it shows. People are talking about this show in the barbershops and around the offices all over the city. This is going to be a terrific show for the city and for the viewers nationwide lucky enough to catch it.”

Lou DiBella of DiBella Entertainment agrees and says it’s city-wide support for a highly competitive boxing event that makes for an unforgettable evening. “Fighters love to fight in cities where boxing lives in the blood. This is the ShoBox card of the year and the thousands of fans that will be in attendance understand that and the fighters’ performances will reflect it.”
