Revenge on Evangelista’s mind

Jorge Evangelista hopes to get his hand raised again at the next PFC

LEMOORE, Ca. — There are very few blemishes on Billy Evangelista’s pro mixed martial arts record.

The Fresno phenom at 155 pounds that carries a 5-1 record and is widely regarded as one of the top fighters in Central California does have one setback, though.

And that’s to Oregon’s Enoch Wilson (10-4-1).

The fight that took place in 2005 has various accounts from both sides, but whatever the case it’s still something that Billy’s brother Jorge is eager to help seize some revenge.

Jorge Evangelsita (5-2-1) is one of the top contenders for the Palace Fighting Championship World Featherweight title and will take on Wilson at PFC 7 on Thursday, March 20th at the Tachi Palace Hotel and Casino.

“When I heard [Enoch’s] name thrown out there as a possibility, I told my guys to make that fight happen,” said Jorge, who knocked out Vernon Phillips in the first round at PFC 4 in October.

“I wanted this fight before even fighting for the title. He’s fought my brother before and my brother was beating him pretty good, until he was disqualified for an illegal knee. I don’t think it was an illegal blow, but [Enoch] said that he couldn’t continue. I’m ready to get some revenge for my brother and for my team.”

Wilson remembers the fight with Billy a bit differently.

“I did fight his brother and I think that the fight was pretty even up until the disqualification,” Wilson said. “[Billy] kneed me while I was down and he was disqualified, but like I said I thought it was a pretty even fight up to that point.”

Wilson and Evangelista will be a key fight on the PFC 7’s 12-bout card.

“I am pumped about the Jorge Evangelista and Enoch Wilson fight. Wilson is tough as nails and a very strong wrestler and has a great team behind him in Team Quest. Enoch actually holds a win over Jorge’s brother Billy and that definitely is a motivating factor for Jorge,” Palace Fighting Championship President said.

“Jorge wants to exact some revenge on Enoch. Jorge is a tremendously talented mixed martial artist. He is the kind of guy who has been a killer in the gym and had taken time off from active fighting. He’s fought at higher weights than he should have but now he’s settled in at 145 pounds and he’s just a phenomenal athlete and a very complete fighter. This fight will be a classic.”

The fight is slated for three, 3-minute rounds and has fight-of-the-night potential.

“I’m a well-rounded fighter and I know that this will be a good fight, but my hand will be raised at the end,” Wilson said. “I don’t know too much about Jorge, but I fought his brother and I’m sure the apple doesn’t fall too far from the tree.”

Wilson last fought in September and beat Dan Russom (1-2) by technical knockout in just one minute, 19 seconds of the first round. Seven of Wilson’s victories have come by submission.

“I really don’t know too much about [Enoch], but that he is a good wrestler and pretty scrappy,” Evangelista said. “Hopefully technique will prevail over that. Anybody that knows me will tell you that I will be ready for this fight.

“I think that [Enoch] is going to wrestle and take me down and make it a boring fight. Hopefully, I can keep it standing and I hope that he doesn’t think that I don’t know any type of wrestling.”

According to Wilson, he doesn’t expect the fight to hit the ground.

“You really don’t know what’s going to happen, but I’d like to trade with him,” Wilson said. “If the fight does end up going to the ground, I’m very well-rounded there. We all know that working with Team Quest, you’re going to have a mean ground-and-pound.”

Also on the card is a pair of PFC World Title fights, as light heavyweight champ Jeromy Freitag (6-5) of Sacramento will defend his title for the first time against Brazil’s Jorge Oliveira (2-2-1); and Arizona’s Richie Hightower (7-2) takes on Bakersfield’s Bryan Travers for the vacant welterweight crown.

In a middleweight eliminator fight, Newport Beach’s Justin Levens (9-8) will battle Merced’s Phil Collins (5-3). The winner will get a rematch with Lemoore champion Kenny Ento (9-3). Ento holds victories over both Levens and Collins.
