Though we traditionally cover only “combat sports” here at Fight News Unlimited, we felt this was time for covering some true combat news since Osama Bin Laden is reported to be dead after a brief firefight in Abottabad, Pakistan. Four other individuals were also killed according to early reports, including a woman and two brothers who were Bin Laden’s trusted couriers. One of the deceased couriers is said to be the key to finding the elusive terrorist leader.
Four helicopters were involved in the special forces raid on Bin Laden’s high-security compound custom-built for the terrorist leader in 2005. No U.S. injuries or casualties were reported despite one of those choppers being forced to make a hard landing due to mechanical issues.
Throngs of Americans took to the streets outside the White House in the wake of the news of the Bin Laden killing. President Barack Obama confirmed the reports with a brief address to the nation in the late evening hours of Sunday, May 1st. Times Square in New York City also flooded with celebrating crowds waving American flags after Obama made his remarks detailing the breadth of the military operation that led to Osama Bin Laden’s demise. Osama Bin Laden’s oldest son was also gunned down in the 40-minute firefight according to fast-spreading news dispatches illustrating how the operation went down. There was even a Wikipedia page on the death put together within hours after the announcement of the death began circulating.
Bin Laden’s wife was shot in the leg after rushing the special forces team clearing the house, but she survived the attack. Bin Laden was reported to be unarmed when he was located in his third-floor bedroom, and he was ultimately shot in the left eye and chest. He was buried at sea after photos and DNA samples were taken to confirm the killing. The decision to dump the body into the ocean was reported to be due to the concern that any land-based burial would inspire a shrine to Bin Laden. There has been no decision made as of this report as to when or if any photo or video documentation confirming the death of Bin Laden will ever be released to the public.
