The American Fighting Organization, already the most active mixed martial arts promotion in New England, is about to become a frontrunner in another combat sport: Muay Thai Kickboxing.

AFO President Pete Dilorenzo announced Tuesday afternoon that the AFO has added a Muay Thai division to its company and AFO alum Tom Evans, a Muay Thai fighter who has transitioned into the world of MMA, will be in charge of the AFO’s Muay Thai matchmaking.

“As we have been adding more shows each year, we will continue with this business plan as we expand our product in all aspects of unarmed combative sport. We would like to welcome Tom to the team as we expect great things from him.” Dilorenzo said.

Evans was equally enthused about his new position within the AFO saying, “There it is! Now let’s get Kickboxing back to its Glory days as well as give MMA Fighters a chance to test their stand up in an actual sanctioned promotion, which I have had the pleasure of fighting for and now working for. I want to thank AFO and Pete for this wonderful opportunity and want to let all gyms and fighters know I have a passion for Kickboxing. I promise all the match-ups will be fair and exciting.”

Evans is a 4th degree black belt with over 20 years of martial arts experience. Aside from his experience as a participant in combat sports, he has also has a strong business acumen having studied business management and administration at the University of Rhode Island.

The AFO will be announcing the dates for its first muay Thai event soon. The next AFO MMA event is this Friday at the PAL Hall in Fall River, MA. For tickets and more information, visit www.AFOMMA.com or call 401-286-3413.
