Prospect signs new deal, eager for battle at MFC 30

By MFC Staff

Fresh off signing a new multi-fight contract, Dhiego Lima will look to extend his impressive winning streak at MFC 30 against a rival prospect.

Dhiego Lima (5-0), the younger brother of reigning MFC welterweight champion Douglas “The Phenom” Lima, will meet Bas Rutten protégé Jamie Toney (14-6) in a bout that rounds out the main card for MFC 30: Up Close & Personal. Airing live on HDNet Fights, the event goes down on Friday, June 10 from the Mayfield Conference Centre in Edmonton, Alberta, at 10 p.m. ET/8 p.m. MT/7 p.m. PT (check local listing for channel designation).

The younger Lima is 2-0 under the MFC banner, sporting a one-punch knockout win and a submission victory. The 22-year-old finished Bill Fraser with a stinging right hand at MFC 27 ending the fight midway through the second round, and then outlasted Josh Taveirne en route to a third-round tapout via rear-naked choke at MFC 29. Combined with Douglas’s accomplishments, the Lima brothers are collectively a perfect 5-0 in the Maximum Fighting Championship.

Already one of the MFC’s top prospects in any division, Lima believes he’s got much more game to offer.

“It’s showtime now. This is going to be my coming out party,” touted the Atlanta, Georgia, product. “You’re going to see the real me now.

“I’m young, I’m undefeated, and I’m hungry. I will be trouble. But I’m still going to be patient. I’m not going to rush anything, but I know after winning my last fight that I’m ready to take a bigger step up in competition. I’m going to go out and put on a show.”

While his sibling may currently hold the MFC’s belt in the 170-pound ranks, Lima has put a target on claiming a title in the not-too-distant future.

“I definitely want to get the belt,” added Lima. “There’s nobody in the division outside of my brother that I can’t beat. This is my chance to go all the way to the top.”

Toney, who will be making his organizational debut, steps into the MFC’s welterweight ranks, riding a five-fight winning. All five victories have come by stoppage – four via submission and one knockout – and three of the five have come inside the first round. A proven finisher, 13 of Toney’s 14 career wins have been decided by submission or knockout, and Toney has not lost since September 2007.

MFC 30: Up Close & Personal will be headlined by a matchup for the MFC lightweight title pitting Drew “Night Rider” Fickett against Hermes “The Unreal” Franca, plus a much-anticipated rematch between home-town favorite Sheldon Westcott and iconic veteran Thomas “Wildman” Denny.

Tickets for MFC 30 are going fast and are available only by calling the MFC Ticket Hotline at (780) 504-2024.
