What: SportFight founder and MMA superstar Matt “The Law” Lindland has teamed up with Mark Cuban and HDNet to deliver yet another adrenaline-pumping night of mixed martial arts action at the Rose Garden on Friday, April 18 at 7:00pm. SportFight XXII: Re-Awakening will offer up a stacked fight card featuring some of the most skilled and exciting athletes from both the Northwest and beyond, and will be broadcast live across the country in crystal-clear 1080i high definition.
“We are excited to show the rest of the world what Portland already knows. There is great MMA action in SportFight and we are proud to partner with Matt on this awesome fight card,” said Andrew Simon, CEO of HDNet Fights.
Local fight fans and a national TV audience will be treated a total of 12 stellar matchups, culminating in two main-event battles that will feature the quick and explosive athletes of the featherweight and lightweight divisions.
“We’re going to give the crowd the action-packed lightweights, but we’re also going to have some of the big boys going at it too,” said Lindland, President of SportFight, LLC., referring to the three bruising heavyweight fights scheduled. “This fight card has a little bit of everything.”
In the Main Event: SportFight veteran Enoch Wilson will put his belt and two-year reign as featherweight champion on the line when he takes on Mike Joy, a talented newcomer who earned his top contender status after an impressive unanimous decision victory over Zach George at SportFight 21. Both men have shown that they are equally comfortable standing and trading blows or taking the fight to the ground, which should make for an entertaining and strategic battle of wills.
In the Co-Main Event: Ed Nuno and Tommy Truex will face off for the number one contender spot and a shot at lightweight champion Travis Bush. Nuno, a heavy-handed and exciting fighter who lost his welterweight belt to Michael Pierce last December, will move down to the lightweight division in hopes of another chance at SportFight glory. But he will have his hands full with Truex, an up-and-comer who secured an impressive unanimous decision victory over Ferrid Kheder at SportFight 21.
Tickets are on sale now ($25, $32, $48 and $132) and can be purchased at the Rose Quarter Box Office (10:00AM–5:00PM, M–F), participating Safeway/TicketsWest outlets, at ComcastTIX.com or by calling 877-789-ROSE (7673). Visit RoseQuarter.com for more information.
