On Friday April 11th, BATTLEQUEST returns to the Denver area with its eighth installment entitled TAPOUT!.

In the evening’s sole Title bout, the veteran Vern Baca returns to the cage. Colorado Fight Event’s Ann Dain recently spoke with Baca.

” Vern Baca is the epitome of the new MMA fighter where brains, brawn and ambition collide to make for success both in and out of the ring!

Vern started fighting 4 years ago after having graduated from the Colorado School of Mines where he attended on a wrestling scholarship. By day, Vern is a business consultant which often involves Monday to Friday travel. This could present a challenge for an MMA competitor but Vern finds that although he misses his home gym, he embraces the travel opportunities as a mixed blessing. He uses the out-of-town assignments to visit other quality MMA dojos around the country to keep his game sharp.

Although there is little free time in Vern’s schedule, he does like to enjoy a concert and spend time with friends and family. His parents have always supported his wrestling although, like most parents, find it difficult to watch their son be the object of another competitor’s aggression in an MMA bout.

When asked what endeavor drives his long term goals – fighting or consulting – Vern said that he likes the activity level of having two full-time jobs. He feels that as the pay scale improves for the MMA competitor, he will be able to enjoy both of his passions in a way that will feel like having his cake and eating it too.

Vern is competing in the Main Event at Battlequest 8 against John Dodson out of Albuquerque. Vern has viewed a video of John and describes him as an entertaining fighter with the skills that come from being trained by the infamous Greg Jackson. Vern has been trained by the equally talented coaches, Brad and Alecia Gumm of Gumm Brazilian Jiu Jitsu so this is sure to be a match-up that will keep all fight fans in their seats!

The Vern Baca-John Dodson bout takes place TONIGHT at the BATTLEQUEST 8: TAPOUT! event. The 12 bout fight card will feature some of the area’s top fighters. The event will take place at the Softball Country Sports Pavilion at 2101 West 64th Avenue. Doors will open at 6:30 and the first bout starts promptly at 7:30 pm.

BATTLEQUEST is known as a breeding ground for new talent and is the feeder show to the popular RING OF FIRE Championship Fighting promotion.

Last year TAPOUT filmed at a RING OF FIRE event. The episode was seen by millions of MMA fans across the world, and helped to launch the career of Donald COWBOY Cerrone.
