YAMMA
Starting off with 8 man tournament.
Opening bout
Fight 1
Sherman Pendergarst vs. Alexey Oleinik
a Red Devil Ukranian sambo fighter named Alexey against a dude from Iowa.
The dude from Iowa is from Miletich. Sherman Pendergarst is his name. Black dude.
One five minute round for the first two fights for each fighter in the tournament.
OMG we’ve got NO Bruce Buffer. Instead we have the most attrocious announcer EVER. Yuck.
Miletich fighter takes down the Ukranian. Tries to push him against cage but slides down the incline to the bottom. Trying some ground and pound but more ground than pound. They are stood up by Kevin Mulhaul. Right hand by Alexi. Then incline is interesting, Pendergarst when he moved back against it went down to the ground with Alexi on top. Now ground and pound by Alexey. One five minute round so that have to be active. The incline comes into play again as Sherman gets pushed against the cage then Alexey from the lower position takes him down. Alexey just choked out Sherman Pendergarst.
Fight 2
Chris Tuscherer (264) vs. Tony Sylvester
WOW WE HAVE A STUPID ANNOUNCER. HE SAID “WE’VE SEEN ALOT OF HAIR PULLING IN PAST MMA AND THIS GUY HAS A PONY TAIL”. The other announcer had to tell him “YEAH UHHH, HAIR PULLING IS NO LONGER ALLOWED.” Wow where has this guy been? Under a rock?
Wow this announcer oh man…..he says in the middle of the ring as he’s announcing the fighters….and “here we have chris tooksher who is over there pacing like he hasn’t eaten in a week….getting ready for the eletric chair.” LOL
Here we go. Tuscherer goes for takedown pushing Tony against the fence but not able to get him down. Finally gets him down. Tuscherer on top with some ground and pound. Tuscherer trains with Brock Lesner. He sort of look likes Brock with blond hair. Funny cause they are still pushing each other up to the cage so the theory about it keeping the fight active is not 100 percent foolproof but really who would have thought it would be. Sylvester is fighting this fight with his back to Tuscherer if you can imagine this. Tuscherer beat the crap out of Tony Sylvester. Sylvester did NOTHING. Tuscherer landed some good knees and punches but could never get Sylvester to engage very much. Unanimous decision for Chris Tuscherer. So weird to see one round fights but necessary I suppose with this tournament style. This man could fight two more times tonight potentially.
NO SIGN OF DON FRYE SO FAR
Fight 3
Travis Wiuff (pronounced “view”) vs. Marcelo Pereira
Travis Wiuff has knocked out Keith Jardine in 7 seconds or something like that. Wiuff gets the takedown. Pereira is a ju-jitsu specialist from Brasil. The crowd is very quiet….not sure if not that many people there or just not excited. Wiuff still on top just doing ground and pound for the past two and a half minutes. Here comes the boos now. Wiuff not trying to pass gaurd at all just staying in gaurd. Finally ref stand them up. Wiuff immediately gets takedown again. Has Pereira up against incline. Wiuff just stays in gaurd and lays and prays ok almost a side mount but goes back to full gaurd. Wiuff with the ground and pound. Pereira did nothing but throw about two punches from the bottom. At the very last second Periera goes for an armbar. Boring uneventful fight. But he got the win I guess that’s all that matters right? Unanimous decision for Travis Wiuff.
Fight 4
George W. Bush III vs. Ricco Rodriguez
Ricco looking pretty large. Man this announcer has the worst anecdotes EVER, ever, ever. Ricco gets a takedown, George gets up then Ricco suplexes him. Ricco lets him go with a kick. Ricco threw a head kick and it looked odd with that big belly throwing that leg so high. Ricco with a big slam nice. Back to their feet. Bush with leg kick. Ricco looks so out of shape but he’s holding up ok so far. Bush throws leg kick, Ricco catches it and grabs him from behind. Ricco holding him from behind around the waist. Bush trying to get hand control. Head kick by Ricco. Ricco drives Bush to the mat. Ricco looking for a submission trying to get a rear naked. Ricco fought a skilled fight Bush gets up swings at Ricco but misses. It’s over. Rico wins…unanimous decision and I was VERY impressed with how he looked. Looked great against the president George Bush.
1st SUPER FIGHT
MARK KERR vs. OLEG TAKTOROV
KERR is 39 years old now. Very interesting. Mark Coleman is here tonight..an old friend of Kerr’s. Not in Kerr’s corner but in the building. Kerr physique has changed DRAMATICALLY since his prime. Looks nothing like he did except in the face. OLeg 221 lbs. Kerr 266 lbs. Oh my. Here we go. Kerr gets a single leg takedown. Kerr wants to put him up against the fence but can’t get it cause of the incline. Kerr on top now back to feet both of them. Kerr lands a right hand. Gets another takedown. Oleg bleeding already. Wow. Oleg gets a kneebar win for submission. Damn. Kerr has had those bad knees in the past and he’s wearing a knee brace. Kerr was winning easily but those damn submission will get you.
SEMIFINALS:
Chris Tuscherer vs. Alexey Oleinik
Chris gets the takedown. Ground and pound on the incline. Oleinik has rubber gaurd now looking for a triangle. Hammerfist to the face by Chris. Ground and pound continues. Alexey’s head still laying on the incline. Alexey looks for another triangle…no dice. Unanimous for Chris Tuscherer. Ground and pound for a whole five minutes pretty much. I’m glad there is only one five minute round to tell you the truth. It makes them do as much as they can as fast as they can and that’s it. If it’s a little boring the goood news is you don’t have to watch anymore.
SEMINFINALS:
Travis Wiuff vs. Ricco Rodriguez
This should be a decent match up and I will be very impressed if Ricco can win this match. Ricco is so big I hope he’s not worn out. He looks ok. They said Ricco is only 30. Man I thought he was older.
Come out standing. Announcer says, I don’t like that jumping stuff…referring to a Superman punch. Wiuff is now in Ricco’s full gaurd. Wiuff laying on some ground and pound…just a little. Rabbit punches to the body. Elbow. Ricco looking for submission. This is only one round so Ricco needs to get up. Wiuff pulls Ricco back to the bottom of the incline. Ricco trying to get up and takes a knee to the body. Ricco tried for a submission but no dice. Wiuff doing nothing but holding Ricco down and small rabbit punches. Ref stands them up. Ricco kicks Wiuff in the groin. Warning. Forty seconds left. Ricco throws a terrible lazy kick. Wiuff takes Ricco down. Looks like Wiuff will win this one easily. He didn’t damage Ricco at all but he maintained control. The announcer tells us that Superman punches are ineffective. Ask Houston Alexander if they are ineffective. I’m sorry but the commentators are awful.
SUPER FIGHT #2
BUTTERBEAN vs. PAT SMITH
Pat is 46 years old. Pat was defeated in UFC 1 by Ken Shamrock. He won in UFC 2. Pat looks to be in GREAT shape for his age. Amazing shape much better than Ricco Rodriguez who is 16 years his younger.
Exchanging punches. Bean looking powerful. Pat using jabs. Butterbean throwing leg kicks look so funny. Pat Smith is using a good technique here. Leg kicks jabs and punches. Staying on the outside. Smith and Butterbean stand in the center and trade shots. But Smith is the only one landing. Butterbean throws some haymakers that miss. Smith knocks down Butterbean with a kick. Smith takes advantage and delivers punches from the side. Butterbean can’t get back to his feet. Smith in total control with Butterbean unable to move. He is trapped on his side and defensless. Butterbean finally taps out. And you can’t help but feel a little sorry for the big guy. The official time is 3:17 of the opening round.
FINALS HEAVYWEIGHT TOURNAMENT
Chris Tuscherer vs. Travis Wiuff
3 – 5 minute rounds
Travis Wiuff wins by unanimous decision. Mostly by ground and pound and some striking.
Both guys had a ton of heart. By the end of the third both fighters were pretty spent and for a moment it made me think of the Bonnar / Griffin fight where they were slugging it out with little left in the gas tank. Both fighters left it all in the ring.
It was nice to see a tournament all in one night. The Butterbean vs. Smith fight was fun to watch until Butterbean went down then it was just all over cause he was like a whale out of water. Good to see Ricco. He didn’t look bad at all. Actually I was pretty impressed with how well he moved for being so large however his kicking was not up to par. I was sorry to see him lose.
Congratulations to Travis Wiuff for getting in there in this new strange environment and adapting and winning this heavyweight tournament. He deserved the win.
YAMMA 2 – MIddlweight Tournament – will take place June 21st which will also feature a women’s Super Fight.
