Moreno idled
World Boxing Council female minimumweight champion Carina Moreno of Watsonville had her title defense against Dan-Bi Kim called off 30 minutes before Thursday’s fight card started because of a documentation mistake, Palace entertainment director Christian Printup said.
Rick Noble, Moreno’s manager/trainer, said Kim’s age was listed as 19 on various boxing Web sites, but the South Korean listed her age as 17 on paperwork filled out during Wednesday’s weigh-in.
“We decided to err on the side of safety,” Printup said. “It’s sad though because we were looking forward to this fight.”
Moreno (17-1) fights next on June 13 against former amateur sparring partner Eileen Olszewski (5-0-1) for the International Female Boxing Association light flyweight crown on an all-woman, pay-per-view card from Albuquerque, N.M. Moreno returns to the Palace in August against an opponent to be determined.
Rakoczy victorious
Las Vegas women’s lightweight Jessica Rakoczy (29-3) easily controlled Cindy Serrano (15-3-1) of Brooklyn, N.Y., for an 80-72, 80-72, 80-72 victory in an eight-round bout.
