STARNES REQUESTED RELEASE
Criticized Canadian Calls UFC Contract ‘Most Oppressive’
By Mike Russell (gfn@thefightnetwork.com)
Kalib Starnes on Monday set out to clarify circumstances regarding his pending release from the Ultimate Fighting Championship. He countered a report from Yahoo! Sports’ Kevin Iole in which UFC president Dana White seemed to indicate the Surrey, British Columbia, native had been cut from his contract.
“He just doesn’t belong in the UFC, and after his performance the other night, he should consider a new line of work,” White said, referring to Starnes’ widely criticized effort against Nate Quarry at UFC 83: Serra vs. St. Pierre 2 on Saturday at the Bell Centre in Montreal.
Starnes told The Fight Network that he requested his release from the remainder of his UFC contract, which had been carried over from his appearance on “The Ultimate Fighter” reality series and ensured him three fights per year.

Just three days after defeating Sam Stout at this past Saturday’s UFC 83 event in Montreal, veteran fighter and rising lightweight contender Rich Clementi (31-12-1 MMA, 4-3 UFC) has agreed to fill in for an injured Rob Emerson to fight Terry Etim (10-1 MMA, 1-1 UFC) at UFC 84.
Rashad Evans vs. James Irvin UFC 85 fight booked
By: MMAmania
As we mentioned earlier, James Irvin (14-4) will replace an injured Chuck Liddell and tangle with Rashad Evans (11-0-1) in a light heavyweight bout at UFC 85 at the O2 Arena in London, England, on June 7.
Liddell suffered a torn hamstring and would be unfit in time for the scheduled main event. He was originally booked to scrap with Mauricio “Shogun” Rua; however, he too was injured during training and was replaced by “Sugar.”
4.Who’s at fault: Jason or Steve?

There’s some debate going on as to the validity of my ‘Jason MacDonald is a late-punching smack-talking punk ass’ post. Word from Jay-Mac himself is that Ste-Maz (also known as Steve Mazzagatti to you non-hipsters) told him to keep going, which is a bit strange because you can clearly see him step in and wave the fight off. If he actually said “Keep going” after that, then he’s a freaking moron, and I’ll happily downgrade Jason from mega-douche to semi-douche – sorry, but talking trash about a guy you just beat is still lame. Not enough to revoke your Canadian citizenship card, but close.

Former UFC light-heavyweight champion Chuck Liddell tore his hamstring in training last week and was forced to pull out of his fight against Rashad Evans at UFC 85 on June 7 at O2 Arena in London, England, the UFC announced on Wednesday.
