MMA COMMUNITY STEP UP AN SUPPORT ONE OF OUR OWN:

FUNDRAISING CALL TO ARMS!

As many of you already know, Tuesday morning July 19, 2011 Dr. Alex Constantinides, affectionately known as ‘Doc’ in the MMA community suffered an unimaginable tragedy.

While camping in Wyoming the family’s campsite was hit with a flash flood.  In leaving the area their van plunged into a washout and Laurel Constantinides and their three daughters Hanah, 8, Zoe, 5, and Lucia 2 lost their lives.
There are two ways that we can help make certain that the love of Laurel, Hanah, Zoe and Lucia continues to affect many lives for years to come.  In lieu of sending flowers please take time to go to www.halfthesky.org and make a donation in the name of the Constantinides family.  This is an organization that offers care for China’s orphaned children.  The front page of their site has a “Donate Now” button.
Please give all you can so that others may benefit from the passion of the Constantinides family.  Additionally, www.ChineseChildren.org is the website associated with the Chinese Children Adoption International where Laurel Constantinides worked.  This website also has a donation button and anything that can be donated in the name of the Constantinides family will ensure that their passion continues too benefit others.
Additionally, this Saturday July 23, at the Fight 2 Win MMA event, UFC fighters; Shane Carwin, Brendan Schaub, Duane Ludwig, Nate Marquardt and Eliott Marshall will be signing autographs for donations from 6 to 7pm at with all proceeds going to the Dr. Alex Family Memorial.

ROF 41 Fighter Close Up:

KRIS HOCUM BACK ON TRACK

After losing a split decision back in February to Cody Mumma, Kris Hocum is eager to get back in the cage and prove he has what it takes to fight and win. Hocum will look to make a name for himself come August 20, when he squares off with Jeff Estrada at Ring of Fire 41: Bragging Rights

Kris is originally from Upton, California, but he has called Fort Collins, CO his home for the better part of two decades.  It was in Ft. Collins that he began wrestling, playing lacrosse and football, and eventually becoming the 2002-3 Colorado State Wrestling Champion at 171 lbs.  After high school, Kris attended and wrestled for the Air Force Academy for one year before transferring to CSU. “When I came back to Ft. Collins is when I started training jujitsu with Kenny Burkes, and it was just kind of an easy transition from wrestling to jujitsu,” he said.  “I kind of had the base already, but still had the competition in my system and needed to keep doing something.” But this would be short lived as he was sidelined by an injury(what injury) and forced to take some time off.

After a four-year hiatus due to health issues, Hocum has been training at Trials MMA under Ed Herman and Ryan Shultz.  While training at Trials, he said he can feel his game get better and better, and also has had the opportunity to train with some of the UFC’s top fighters, like Chris Leben.  Hocum said  surrounding himself with better fighters, can only make him a better fighter.
