Cestus Management’s British welterweight champion and the I.B.F. number 12 ranked contender Ashley “Treasure” Theophane scored an impressive 10 round stoppage victory over tough and rugged former European and IBO Champion Jason “Power” Cook. The event was held at the Wembley Arena in London England and was the co-main event of the Tyson Fury vs Dereck Chisora British and Commonwealth heavyweight Title clash. The fight was televised across the United Kingdom on Channel 5 UK Terrestrial Television.
Cook, a solid veteran brawler, pressed the action early by taking the fight to the “Treasure” in hopes of landing something big in order to gain an advantage. This would be a mistake as Theophane executed a great fight plan, controlling the pace and action of the contest by landing solid combination’s to both the body and head of “Power”. The first six rounds of the fight made for great drama as Cook attacked and Theophane countered effectively.
As the second half of the fight began, it was clear that Theophane was in top condition and his talent began to show. Between rounds 7 to 9, the “Treasure” really poured it on as he battered Jason Cook from ring post to ring post. Theophane turned from the matador to the bull as he marched forward, punishing the badly fading former champion with brutal combination’s. The end finally came at 0:43 seconds of the tenth round as the “Treasure” followed up a debilitating left hook to the body with a bone crushing right hand which sent Cook crashing to the canvas. Referee Phil Edwards had seen enough and called a halt to the contest.
Mike Michael, Cestus Management’s Founder, said, “Ashley looked great and really turned it on when it counted tonight. (Jason) Cook is a real tough guy with plenty of pop and he is a former champion so this truly is an impressive win. I think Ashley has really come into his own as of late and is ready to take on the top fighters in the division.” Mike added, “Theophane is up for any challenge and we will take on all comers. I’m very proud of Ashley and we (CESTUS) are going to make the next move to get Ashley closer towards a world title fight.”
In closing, Michael said, i would like to thank Mick Hennessy and his team at Hennessy Sports for all the work that they did to make this great event possible and also Channel 5 and Integrated Sports for bringing back boxing to the masses in the UK and to PPV audiences in North America and other countries Internationally.
