The father and son team of Harold and Christopher Reis had joined forces in the past to build and maintain successful businesses in marketing, financial, and real estate. So it was only natural for them to come together again for their most extreme business venture ever….
The Reis’s own and operate Reis Sports Entertainment, which promotes one of the latest and most exciting mixed martial arts organizations out there, the Xtreme Fighting Association (XFA). The promotion is aptly named having been designed to keep the action going and keep the crowd on its feet.
“The term ‘xtreme fighting’ best captures the essence of our fighting style,” says Christopher Reis, XFA President, “ which is full-contact, stand-up fighting.”
While the promotion’s success of its freshman effort in March with media and fans was not unexpected to the pair, the generous amount of celebrity attention it garnered did take the two a little by surprise. Film stars, music stars, and a virtual who’s who of the MMA community were in attendance and included; Wanderlei Silva, Mike Pyle, Jay Hieron, John Alessio, Gina Carano, Kim Couture, Shawn Tompkins, Chris Hordecki, Sam Stout, Scott Bieri, Gilbert Yvel, Heath Herring & Frank Trigg.
“We were pleasantly surprised by the celebrity attention.” Reis reflected, “We had no idea there’d be so many well known people at the show!”
In addition to the warm reception XFA received at its debut, locally, it was also broadcast overseas where its stand-up, non-stop action and K1-style rules already had a strong fan base, affording it popular acclaim there, as well.
“We had that (overseas broadcasting) secured well in advance of our first event,” Harold Reis noted, “and now that they’ve seen U.S. fans love it, too, we’re looking forward to working with domestic broadcasters, along with expanding to more international markets who already have a pent up demand for K-1 style rules fight content. Meanwhile in the U.S. it has barely touched the mainstream, until now that is…”
Still powered by the momentum of their first show, the team is putting on another, Saturday, May 31, at the Cox Pavilion in Las Vegas, NV. The Reis’s will be bringing back Marcy Menchaca, the 135-pounder who gave XFA its very first KO win in the show’s very first fight. The new show will also feature UFC veteran and former King of the Cage champion Vernon “Tiger” White going toe to toe in the main event against Muay Thai champion Anthony Brown. As if that were not enough, the upcoming event also sports three female battles which are always popular and sometimes more aggressive than many of the men’s fights.
